Yep… Anet inexplicably discourages you from playing alts. Just play your main until you burn out and quit the game.
Such negativity. I have 9 characters so far and have no issues using them all. Hell I need more alts just to be able to get to all the events fast enough and get enough materials. Dragonite is needed to make ascended weapons. The more alts you have the more dragonite you can get per day. I currently have 4 lvl80s and need more just so i can get enough dragonite per day to create weapons. Also more alts you have the more chest rewards you can get from events which also means more chances at precursors. There is a lot more reasons to have alts in this game.
It takes more time to get ascended for them but who cares? The game is going to be here for years and in all those years i can get the pieces for my alts if i want to.

Mess with the best, die like the rest.
The fact that the alt-unfriendly aspects of the game do not bother you does not mean they aren’t there. Just that they don’t bother you.
For me personally the point of alts is to be able to have use different playstyles.
I’d get bored using the same one all the time, even my favourite. But with 5 characters I’ve got 5 very different ways to play the game (in my case ranger, elementalist, engineer, thief and guardian) and I can switch between them at will.
It also helps that they’re all at different points in the game so I’ve also got different goals to work towards.
There’s convenience factors too. At least one is usually in LA so if I need to pick up stuff from the TP or swap stuff from my storage guild to my bank or whatever I can do it without leaving the zone I was in. And if I want to gather particular materials I’ve usually got a character in, or close to, an appropriate zone.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
There are pros and cons.
Anet wants you to have alts. They want you to buy character slots so they can get gem sales.
However, they know a lot of people won’t be making alts, so they don’t want those people to feel like they are missing out just because they don’t have alts.
Anet seems to walk a fine line between making it slightly beneficial to have alts, but not too beneficial. There are still a lot of cons in most areas.
I have levelled 13 toons to 80, deleted 3 so I could make new ones, so 10 total. I consider that middle of the road for altoholics.
I too used to run dungeons across multiple alts. RIP.
The only thing for alts, for me, is some world events main chests are character restricted to once per day. If I want to do that event multiple times for the main chest, I can.
That lost it’s luster after a few days.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
@ Suddenflame, i’m not being negative im addressing an issue about Alts that there is lack of contents i can do with them as Alt characters, i would really for example like to see them bringing back the “Dungeon Per Character Per Day”, that at least makes it more fun/sense to have Alt characters and it will encourage others players to do so, different players like different things as u stated about what you like yourself but having at least the option there would be lovely.

I have several Lvl 80 alts. Here is what I do:
Use my main and run through all the world bosses as quickly as I can, getting the champ drop, big box and wiggle box. – log out
Log in alt – Run through all the world bosses as quickly as I can, getting the champ drop and big box. – Log out
Log in alt – Run through all the world bosses as quickly as I can, getting the champ drop and big box. – Log out
get the picture? tedious, a a little, but I get stacks of ecto’s rather quickly and about 400+ dragonite a day =D

If you want to farm alts are the way to go. Ori/ancient woods nodes, empyreal from JPs, meta events for dragonite. You can hit a bunch of these easily with alts. But when it comes to gearing them up you can expect to take years for full ascended for all, if you go that route.
To a dungeon runner, having a lot of alts is probably not all that much fun. But I’m not 100% convinced that this game was ever supposed to be centered around dungeons.
For people who like open world content, having alts is great. You can gather on all of them. You can do events on all of them. And even if the mega event daily chests are only once per day, everything else is up for grabs.
I have over 20 characters now and play several of them actively. I don’t do dungeons or fractals on all of them, because I don’t care to. Actually I only have three now that I take into dungeons at all…and only one regularly.
So whether the game is alt friendly or not, depends on how you play the game.
I’d imagine a SPvPer would say the game is amazingly alt friendly for example.
I have no main, only alts. Expect to burn out and quit soon after gear creep is fully implemented. Spent some money on extra slots, wish I could get a refund.
