So I have been playing gw2 for a few weeks now. Have climbed my way into the mid twenties but have no idea whats going on.

There doesnt seem to be anyone else around, I may pass 1 or 2 other ppl but mostly it feels like a ghost town. Dynamic events and quests are all solo, I have learned mechanics and play tips strictly from youtube and the rest Ive figured out on my own so I can only imagine how unskilled I am comparatively.

I dont know anything about the world, the lore, the politics, etc. The quests seem mostly pointless and the personal story line seems disjointed. It really feels like Im running around killing things just for the sake of killing things or being able to access that part of the map over there.

Is there a story here? Or is this a hack and slash, who cares about storytelling type game? I mean since its so barren and there really arent any other players around I feel there should be something to catch my attn. Where’s it at? And where are all the ppl?

And as much as i enjoy this game it has one big problem. There are only 3 place,s to get real rewards from at max level. Fractals, orr and, dungeons

I know what you mean OP, GW1 had a story that was very connected and made sense, would actually carry you through the game without a level requirement to follow the story if you wanted.

GW2 story is VERY disjointed and sloppy at best, the scenes are meh. Cinematics from GW1 were far more interesting and got you into the story more.

It won’t pick up for you in GW2 until about lvl 40 I believe. When trehearn actually mentions GW1 lore (WOW, FINALLY!) and speaks a tad bit about the Guild Wars. Then, it goes dead again.

It really doesn’t change much through out the entire game so don’t expect anything special.

You mean the dungeons story? Those have level requirements and are very far apart, plus you need a group for them and they don’t start until lvl 30. Like I said, disjointed.

Nothing compared to GW1 lore either. In between missions you could talk to NPC that further went into the lore, you got waaaaay more than in GW2.

Not to mention the lore tablets you would find in certain missions depicting stories.

There are planty of NPCs you can talk to in both the world and your story that go WAY more into the lore. There are also little mini scavanger hunts for page’s of books in one city.

And did you know if you kneel at a statu of dwana than her avitar will show up and you can talk to her about a bunch oflore

Big Rigs has better story so no, gw2 has no story worth mentioning. Move to a server like JQ and you will see people in level 20 and under zones but don’t expect anyone at over lev20. Even in Orr the only people you see are those farming lodestones or couple of events. Feels brain dead to me… something is up i feel like playing that crappy beta i tried of Tera or wtf its called again…

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

Horheristo – this isnt a troll post. I seriously am lost at this game. You may wanna White Knight it, but for those of us coming in, its seriously problemsome.

First of all there is no one to play with. I have never even talked to any other players, because there are none around. Every other mmo I have or do play I have plenty of interaction with other players, not here. And its because I dont see any.

As for the lore and storylines, I havent really picked up on anything. It seems really forced and thats why Im asking everyone if there is something and maybe its just because of the lower lvl areas Im in that there is nothing catchy. I do prefer a game with story over hack and slash so I just need to know how much of a waste of time this is or if it gets better or if Im just missing something. There are no epic story lines I have discovered, just some whiney npcs that give very little. And the questing doesnt help, kill spiders for apples for an npc to make pies? Why are those bandits raiding that farm every 10 minutes? Whats going on in the world that makes me want to go explore.

And frankly I dont care to solo to lvl 80 and then get laughed out of endgame because I have no idea how to utilize my skill sets to their full potential.

Im not trolling, seriously what is going on in this game and where the heck is everyone? So far Final Fantasy 14 version 1 had more going for it in the way of story and player interaction, and thats saying something.

if it’s not a troll post then answer the questions given:
1. Your server
2. When you log in
I’m on Underworld (EU) and we have plenty of people. Never felt lonely in the starter zones, people that I introduced GW2 to on Christmas ain’t feeling lonely either

Orr really doesn’t for most of us. Vets/champs don’t drop anything. Chests drop blues and greens. So if you’re talking resource nodes then that would be an accurate assumption. Spending all day hitting DR after DR trying to get a lodestone to drop isn’t really a reward system honestly.

So I’d say that Fractals and CoF as the only means of getting anything is an accurate view because that’s essentially what this game has become, dungeonruns 2.0. Which would explain why OP doesn’t see anybody.

I’m practically tripping over people on my server(Tarnished Coast). Even events at odd hours in mid-high level zones are still doable due to people almost always being around. Go back into the 1-30ish areas and they are PACKED.

Anima,

There is a story, it’s your Personal Story. Are you doing it? And the other stuff out in the World also has some lore if you talk to the NPCs.

Cheers.

The mid level zones 20-60, around that range, are pretty empty, because there is no use going to them once your story is done, the map is completed, or just hanging out for a dungeon team. Anet said the updates coming soon will adress this problem, saying ‘they want to give incentives to replay middle maps’.
If you go into Lion’s Arch, you’ll see just how packed the place is. In short, the distribution of players is messed up, but the amount is still high

The human storyline always seemed a bit weird to me, kinda sloppily made. The sylvari and charr stories are quite a bit better.

And it’s true, the storyline in GW2 is way different from GW 1. From what I understand, the devs wanted a more segmented story; not the huge long mission chains from prophecies, but the pseudo-missions in EOTN. Honestly, I’d like some of those epicly long missions too.

And in other news, there’s a good sized population over on my server, Ehmry Bay.

That was so funny, I laughed twice.

I would recommend that you consider joining a guild.

People talking in guild chat, people asking for others to join dungeon runs, WvWvW, questing, etc. You can also try asking questions about how to play your class.

It won’t completely solve the world emptiness problem you are describing, but I do see groups of people from guilds running together around Tyria.
