..who things that after the Karka story arc is totally over that Southsun would be a better place if most if not all mobs were removed? I mean, maybe leave some bosses, some champs around the lairs that are farm-able for us 80’s who love farming. But clear most of that dreadful island off, remove the gloomy rain, brighten it up, and give us a nice island getaway ^^ I bet RP’ers would love this. Swimming trunks and sand, and when an adventure is wanted they go into the hive and do some cool quests that lead underground as well as above ground for fun. It could be an alternative to Orr farming, with less karka and more interesting mobs that are pushed only to certain areas. Maybe even make a monthly invade scenario, where the karka attack the camps and we have to defend them. I say that the island could be far more fun if done right, tried of gloomy Orr… We need a shiny, good looking farm area.
I think you’re the only one. Also you can’t farm in a small area of the DR kicks in, you need to travel and take part in events to reset the DR :p
Honestly the invasions and stuff don’t happen as much when there are less people, when the current story is over the majority of people will leave and it will quieten down a lot.
Sorry, I’m the opposite. I love the area as a hard, mob heavy zone. I agree its a wonderful setting, but the dark feel to it enhances it and it would be a dead zone w/o it for me. Southson for me is GW answer to Starship Troopers
I like your scenario ideas though.
Yep you are probably the only one along with;

Well for people like me who easily avoid DR, I would just pop back and forth between the two. If it had a few WP’s where Orr style events happened thats more fun (to me) than just wandering around killing karka all day. Karka are also not that hard, as a thief I can avoid ever even getting hit by them while farming. Same with many classes, so i don’t see the problem there. Just wish there was a purpose to the farming, like in Orr we get xp/karma etc. Southsun farming (for me) is mostly just running the map killing stuff.. That isn’t as fun imo. DR is easily avoidable by people who aren’t bots ^^ If they won’t make SS cool, then maybe just add an off the coast island that is just for fun and town clothes/swimming etc for all levels. We could really use a nice beach in GW2, instead of all this swamp/death/rainy stuff.
Agree with the op, hope it gets done.

I really think a change in scenery would be nice for farmers, and more chances at T5/T6 mats. Rather than running to 2-4 Wp’s in Orr farming, we could do 2 in Orr 2+in SS. Might make farming more fun for everyone and help the economy get more items. Not everyone loves farming in the dark 99% of the day ^^ Also, pretty sure this is the first time you have ever agreed with me on anything, printing this and putting it in a frame. :P

I agree with you and others more often than not, I just don’t always post it. The topics you are creating now are things of interest to me, and I believe they would help the game and community overall in the long run.
Edit: I usually only post when I feel a valid discussion is being shut down by one side or another.

I personally would like to see the island blown off the face of Tyria and replaced with something that actually fits in the game world. I don’t think either of us will get what we want.

Why doesn’t an island fit into the world o.o It isn’t like NCsoft has never had islands, beaches, swimwear before. Of course Arenanet shouldn’t copy Aion or anything, but imo its not such a bad place that it warrants being removed. Add a nice island, open up cantha, everyone wins

According to the devs, in the games canon, it’s set after the events of Arah and defeat of Zhaitan. That’s the biggest problem. Looking at the map there are dozens upon dozens of islands between LA and Orr, at least some of them have to be inhabited, are we really expected to believe that nothing of worth was happening on those islands that could contribute to the existing story? We are never going to get to know these islands or their people in the context of GW2s actual story because of this filler.
It’s especially frustrating that these island areas could have been used to actually give the Asura and Sylvari a group of areas that allowed them to flow in to the storyline like every other race. I can’t see Karkaland as anything more than wasted potential. Even if they wanted to keep this island, I don’t see why it couldn’t have been done fitting in the main story rather than poking a hole in it.

There should be more Asura and Sylvari themed areas as well.
But we currently have this, with a decent infrastructure already built up, and now a majority of the population know about it. There is no reason not to build upon this and have another level 80 area, with perhaps a more varied ecosystem, themed beach events, monthly recurring events, and some unique rewards for the area.
The choice is either to be bitter about something that is already in game, or offer discussion and input to help make it worthwhile. I choose the latter.

I’m not bitter just disappointed. This could have been done better, and in fact I still believe it can be done better. But those things which I personally think could improve it the most (making it fit in the story line rather than defy it) are also those things which I believe ANet is least likely to do.

Regardless of what they (anet) do or do not think, I and many other players would like to hear your suggestions. It’s what the forums are for after all. Geo opened up the discussion, it’s up to the posters here to help flesh out, introduce and refine ideas, and give constructive criticism where needed.
I’d like to hear your ideas, please post them.
I never liked southsun the mobs or the island so i am not worried what they do to that horrible place..

I don’t know about this. The Sylvari particularly are only around for 25 years. The idea anything would be themed for them would be pretty small. They don’t or shouldn’t have the same population as charr or humans for example.
As for Asura, 250 years ago, their 7 greatest cities were destroyed, presumably with most of their population. It felt, to me, like the remnants of their civilization came together to come to the surface. So there’s some arugment for smaller areas too. Lorewise, I’m not sure the smaller areas don’t fit, even though they wouldn’t bother me if Anet had introduced them.
Yah, I think we need to leave southsun alone. Once the story is done, get some good DEs going there with their own little story pertaining to the island..leave all the vet kharkas…Its such a change of pace compared to Orr where you have, or used to and kind of still do, have 50 mobs smacking you..vs one or two heavy hitters.
keep the skelks and bin the rest
