gw2 is a great looking game. For an MMO it has a load a really great features and conveniences. problem is, the story is god awful and there just isn’t enough content. PvP needs more maps and game modes. wvw needs specific rewards such as weapons, armor, trophies. the pve world needs new zones to explore, and accomplishment-gated content and achievables. if they can do these things, gw2 could live up to its great potential. if not, it will just continue along its current trajectory.

Unfortunately a slick appearance is all that GW2 currently has going for it at the moment. Graphics aren’t everything and while the game is pretty, it actually shuts out players with lower end machines. Probably mostly casuals that ANet is supposedly trying to attract because casuals don’t typically have souped up gaming rigs.

WoW has the right idea with less intensive graphics and a style all it’s own. Pretty isn’t a big deal when you have decent content and gameplay.

I love Diablo II, I really enjoy Diablo III (console versions are supreme), and I am still in love with Guild Wars 2. Way too many haters out there. If you can’t enjoy the game, please go enjoy another game elsewhere. Simple as that.

To be fair if the so called “haters” were to be in enough of a majority you wouldnt havea game if they all left.

I use forums to give my opinions but I mostly avoid discussing over
them due to those less than polite individuals out there and their offensive attitude.

Has anyone here played Diablo2? I’m pretty sure that the answer is a big yes. I’m also sure that you guys also remember all the hype that was put into the release of Diablo 3. Try to remember the feeling you had when the game ended up being so dissapointing for the lack of content.

I’m starting to have the same feeling here with Gw2….

I’ve been reading every single Dev post and watching all the interviews about the new patch for the Living Story finale. I could feel all the hype that was being put there.

Guess what, the moment I enter the game, I see treamendous amount of people saying in the map chat that nothing works. Without believing it first, I go check for myself and saddly, the /map trolls were right.

Again that big hype followed by that big dissapointment…

Maybe to everyone here my post looks like a rant, but I simply don’t understand how that kind of thing is actually possible. Being told that there would be ’’awesome’’ content that is actually ‘’awesomely non-functional’’. Even people in my guild are starting to name their character Bugs War.

Sad…

Not long ago I saw that CDI thing for horizontal and vertical progression. This is something incredible. So many great ideas. I simply hope that this time I won’t be dissapointed. I’ve been on Gw1 since forever and Gw2 since the beta’s. I just don’t want this game that has ‘’Way to much potential’’ leave that feeling of dissapointment in me.

Arwen.

Sorry GW1 to GW2 =/= D2 to D3.

GW2 is sooo different from GW1 that I don’t feel it could be like that.

GW2 was hyped but not that much. I really thought that I was over excited because of me vs the media.

For me GW2 lived up to my expectations. I find that being in a guild and having friends that play really help with that.

I’ve reached my quota of bandwidth of the month or I’d be checking it out myself but I can’t say that I’m in the slightest bit surprised by this. They have a weird testing system here and we’ve told them at length for the better part of the first year they launched this title that it simply isn’t working. There’s a reason why the industry standard for testing is a PTR and this is it. This happened the entire time I was in the game (before I just couldn’t deal with it any longer and took a break). From your reports and others it seems they still haven’t learned yet. Even if they only invited a random 200 people it would be miles better than getting hyped about new content or an update to progression, logging in and not being able to do anything with it.

Bottom line: People don’t always make sensible decisions with the information they have, and just because they’ve made a decision doesn’t mean that data exists to justify it.

Don’t assume someone is stupid because he doesn’t do what you would do.

Anet devs have more information about the game and more experience in the industry than forum warriors, and therefore they are in a better position to make good decisions. They can make mistakes, but I’ll trust their judgement far more than some anonymous forum poster who says “just do such-and-such and everything will be fine.”

Again, your post doesn’t logically follow from mine. This isn’t about my wants, it’s about how having data is not necessarily the same as making good decisions.

Furthermore, I know for a fact that the devs received some horrifically negative feedback from their playtest community (people they selected to give feedback from the test environments) as they were developing the Living Story content. Judging by the test forums, most of their data showed that Living Story and ascended gear were massive mistakes.

They have a PTR and far more than 200 testers. Most of which advised them heavily against the current iteration of the game.

My honest opinion is that GW2 set itself up for negativity with that stupid Manifesto and overhyping the game before the launch. Its one of the best games in the world but the Manifesto made it look like it was going to be more than that and disappointment is inevitable. I really enjoy this game and the negativity around it reduces my enjoyment. I wish the company had been smart enough to manage expectations better but instead they went loco on us and released that stupid Manifesto.

The Goderators have ruined this forum for me.

I would love to get feedback from the Devs on this discussion. I know they said during interviews that they can’t reveal to much or can’t promise anything. But between watching an hour long interview to finally conclude that the same thing was said for the whole hour or getting a short announcement from the Dev that they are really trying to make this game better and that they are trully listening to player. I would take the short announcement.

I am starting to think that if they would trully consider player feedback on everything being launched the game may or would be better.

The thing is they have alot some of the things that are most hated in this game are from players feedback. Champ use to have no drops and players asked for them to have better drops so Anet added them in now ppl complain about champ drops being too much. There was a lot of hate on things not being open world enofe in GW2 so Anet added in more open world events and some ppl are saying they hate these events. What i see this is that this gaming community has no idea what it means to have one thing and what comes with it.

There is about a 4 month to 6 month delay for using player feedback (its foolish to think these things can happen over night) but if you keep up with these forums you can see a patten there is a complain about something in the game 4 to 6 months down the rode its changes to fix that complain nearly in the way asked then 1 week after you see the same ppl or new ppl complain about the consequences of that fix or the fix it self. Its a no win most of the time. I know the community means well for the most part (though there are ppl who only ask for things that will help them in the moment) but if they truly knew what the gaming community wanted more then likely they would have an idea of what type of game they wanted to play in the first places and would of not bought a game that they did not like. What i am trying to say is that ppl are complaining because they enjoy complaining and it will mess up the game or any game over the long run to always be in a flux of unstable.

By far my favor action of the forums is the asking for harder content then once they get it they ask it to be easier its a joke.

I know. You should take a look at their cdi thread. I saw some kind of pattern there. I mostly saw response from devs when people were giving them essays filled with the same thing going on for 10 paragraphs. But no feedback was given to people who wrote the same thing but in a single line. Some people gave extremely good feedback but with a little bit of harshness and were given no reply.

How does a company expect to improve when they take only what seems positive/constructive but do not seems to bother with what is negative/constructive.

We all do mistake, and they will do mistake but if its to hard to take something that it harsh from an angry player how do you want me to expect them to make better thing and make this game grow.

A part of receiving feedback from player is also accepting critiscism. Sometime people have trouble being able to critiscise without being vulgar. What if that guy who said that the game is full of kitten but then started to be extremely constructive despise his anger.

When I see that kind of thing from players who are unsatisfied but a majority of people start saying to them that they should go rant somewhere elsewhere or devs saying that they won’t tolerate that kind of behaviour, how do you expect me to believe that they want the best.

Simply put, as a competitive entity when you are facing two types of critics (sorry for the image I may give here) the people that kneel and praise everything good and bad and the people that are not shy to show their disapointment. If I see onky replies to people that kneel and praise I start telling myself that there is a problem.

Myself being really competitive, when someone kittenes me off or critisize me (negative) I will do everything to prove them wrong. The bandwagoning people that are already happy with everything good and bad will still be happy.

The average person knows what he wants but has absolutely no idea of what he needs. It’s like sending a ten year old child alone into the grocery store to buy food for the week. He comes out with a cart full of pizza, chips, soda and candy because he wants these things but has no thought for the consequences.

If the devs actually let the players run the game it would self-destruct within weeks.

Don’t bring this to the extremes. The point is that if devs brought out ideas to players and players would argue about it being good or bad would it be better or not?

I think it would.

And if you let the 10years old kid buy all that food and you let him eat it as he wish. At some point he will be sick and realise that it was not a good idea.

But then in the topic of this game. What is the point to the dev to bring in something that people will hate so bad that they will remove it. Is it not the point of making surveys with individuals to kitten if something will be appreciated or not.

When you were talking earlier about information the devs are taking from player experience in the game. Why would they dump in something that has 50% chance of being good or bad and let the player test it out (as if we were in a beta and the player base is the experiment sample for the devs). Would you prefer something like a proposal where the dev enumarate many ideas and people could be asked in game and on the forum (to make sure everyone can be included in the sample space) what they would prefer. Now instead of a 50% chance of good/bad you could maybe increase that to let’s say 60% good 40% bad.

I remember in beta when finishing the worm in the norn starting area to rate the event and give feedback on it. To me that is the best way to obtain valid information on the player satisfaction on a specific thing. But now that we are not in beta there is proper way to make sure that content released is actually wanted instead of throwing things here and there and then hoping that people will like it (or like I said in my first post, creating such a huge hype around some content that eventually disapoint you because you were expecting so much more).

This is not grounded in reality. There is a test environment. They release patches on that test environment far in advance. They then ask for feedback from the selected players in the test environment.

The issue is that most of the crucial feedback from the testers in the test environment is being ignored. I’ve heard reports of the some of the Anet reps going so far as to say “They don’t need to have fun, they just need to log in every day.”

In terms of POST RELEASE game development/improvement:
And keep in mind that GW2 has like 100 times more employees than what GW1 did.

GW1: the devs FREQUENTLY released; (weekly, bi weekly, monthly)
- Bug fixes
- Skill balances
-Holiday items and quests and stories
- Special event weekends (weekly or bi weekly)
- New skins/dungeons/npcs/quests/content like zaishen keys and embark beach

ALL WHILE WORKING ON AN EXPANSIONS WORTH OF CONTENT. Yep, that’s right, not only did they have less employees at the company, they released frequent meaningful updates, whilst working on truly epic expansions. And they did this 3 times without fail (factions, nightfall, EOTN)

GW2 devs have released us (2 weeks for TEMPORARY pve content, 3-5 months between every PvP/WvW update)
- Over priced gem store items every 2 weeks
- Fractals
- Over priced gem store items
- Living Story that’s not actually a story, and completely disregards Guild Wars lore, putting Guild Wars lore on the backburner. It is also 2 weeks, and pointlessly temporary.
- Overpriced gem store items
- WvW ranks, still not account wide
- Overpriced gem store items
- Skyhammer (lol)
- Dhuumfire (lol)
- Overpriced gem store items
- Holiday events that were ok, but could of been better given the resources.
- Bug fixes only involving Living Story temporary content
- A few skill balances
- Champion loot

Yeah, frankly its been very uninspiring and a pretty big let down. Considering the ANet behind GW1 delivered so much epicness, with such little employees, it boggles the mind how GW2 fails to deliver.

I never used any sort of forum (like guru) to express any problems or concerns, the game was brilliant (besides the OP hex/blind PvP meta that meant non casters couldn’t play the game). GW2? Let’s just say, I’ve voiced my concerns and been punished for it more times than I’d like to admit.

Personally it feels like ANet used to be made up of awesome guys and girls who were passionate about their job and the game they made, but with GW2 it just feels soulless post launch.

It does feel like this game fails to deliver post launch.

The small GW1 team set the bar too high, a bar that no company will ever reach again. Kudos for the memories.

ALL IS VAIN.

Pretty misleading and one sided analysis based on your feelings about the two games.

You listed bug fixes for Guild Wars 1, ignoring bugs people complained about long term and the bug fixes that Guild Wars 2 has made which has been myriad.

The Ursan build in Guild Wars 1 was overpowered for a year and people begged Anet to do something about it. It still took them a year to do it. Rose colored glasses, maybe?

There were very few bi-weekly special events and most of them were like you get more faction if you do this stuff this week. That’s not a biweekly event, that’s a bonus weekend. There’s a difference.

You’ve left out quality of life features…the end of culling, the account wallet, the auction house preview, being able to craft from stuff in your bank (instead of having to get it out), the changes to both dailies and monthlies, hell a lot of stuff.

In fact, the amount of content in Guild Wars 2 at launch is greater than the amount of content of both Prophecies and Factions put together, but people seem to ignore that.

Also more devs don’t necessarily make things go faster or easier. And the scope of the game is much bigger as well.

I think people see what they want to see.

I am actually curious as where they went.

One thing I know is that one of the current devs (lead) Colin Johanson was the one who was working on the bonus mission pack in Gw1.

As for the dissapointment, I have to agree that when something gets hyped so much if it does not deliver what it was promising then it feels like a massive letdown..

In terms of POST RELEASE game development/improvement:
And keep in mind that GW2 has like 100 times more employees than what GW1 did.

NO – it is 100 more people – not 100 times – please you lost all credibility there.

GW1: the devs FREQUENTLY released; (weekly, bi weekly, monthly)
- Bug fixes
- Skill balances
-Holiday items and quests and stories
- Special event weekends (weekly or bi weekly)
- New skins/dungeons/npcs/quests/content like zaishen keys and embark beach

GW2 has had the same. But you can’t compare a lobby game to an MMO.

AHH FACTIONS AND NIGHTFALL WERE FULL GAMES NOT EXPANSIONS. EXPANSIONS means you need the original game – Nightfall and Factions you did not

Frankly – your first glaring argument mistake made sure no one would read your post. GW2 has added more in this game and GW1 had a huge number of glaring flaws that were NEVER EVER fixed.

GW2 is a decent game. It has issues, like all the others other there but, at least A.Net is trying to do something different. Not put out WoW – WoW clone1 – WoW clone 2.

Since you obviously don’t like the game, why play it? Move on as there is nothing for you here other than disappointment.

I see this said by the White knight forum warriors all the time, and it HAS to make the devs cringe. Telling someone who has good criticisms to quit playing the game they put their heart and soul into creating?

Edit: And rereading your post again, all you did was nitpick little details in his original post while not actually having any comebacks for the MAJOR issues he was addressing. 100 times > 100 employees instead of addressing how anet does so much less with so many more people. Saying Expansions != Factions/Nightfall is just attacking his jargon, the point he was making remains the same no matter what you call it.( Hell it even makes his point stronger because it should take MORE time to do a full game while attaching it to the original instead of just expansions).

MMO gamers have a reputation for loose screws so sometimes they might need a reminder that there are better things to be doing than banging your head on a brick wall.

Well just look at the current update.

People expected a new map, and actually got one. Unfortunately the map has the size of the interior of a japanese student apartment. Of course people that like MMOs for their freedom and vast landscapes will not be happy about this. If we had mounts in GW2, you could cross the new map in approx. 10 seconds.

And the whole design of the map is a super mario platformer death trap. Really? The whole map is a single jumping puzzle. Is that what the community was asking for?
What is next? I just hope Norns get a new transformation:

Kangaroo-Form: Makes you jump twice as high and far, taking less falling damage.

Finally a useful transformation.

In the end, the start of LS2 just shows even more how far the DEVs have seperated themselves from their playerbase. They live in an Ivory Tower.

I didn’t personally expect a full map for a single two week update. I expect the map to be opened up a bit at a time as we progress. Which I think is pretty cool.

It’s your own kitten fault. The amount of hype for this game was unreal even though it was painfully obvious that this game couldn’t live up to it.

why do people always think that they are the “ONLY ONE”

you are not even the “ONLY ONE” who thinks that you are the “ONLY ONE”
