I am more than happy. This is the first update I actually appreciate Anet making. I just hope they do more updates like this.
noted they are a little extreme considering that everyone already has the points, however these are one time rewards and will get harder and harder to get more points so i have to agree, in perspective they might seem like huge rewards but in reality they arent really and thats why i love them

Yeah idk. I mean tbh I don’t care for the new skins, but I’m not gonna cry about it and demand different skins. It’s nice they even decided to give us so much in the way of rewards for achievement points. My only real complaint is that maybe the number of badges of honor given is too much, I mean I’ve seen people in map chat linking 250 badges and asking “what are these for”. No offense but I don’t think if you don’t know what a badge of honor is and haven’t spent 2 mins in wvw that you should be handed a whole stack of badges free.

I get annoyed at the people who complain about bonus stuff that is for things they dont do, aka PvP. I dont do PvP, but its not that I wont, and I like that when/if I do start, I will have some other gear to start with. Plus there is tons of other cool stuff part of the reward, like permenant account buffs and skins, and some extra coin.

I actually just started pvping cause of this new update. When I went to try the Sanctum Sprint for the first time it bugged and took me to pvp..I had never done the sprint before and thought it WAS just pvp. Nobody told me it bugged or anything. Anyways it was kinda fun and now I’m getting into it, and now I’m really excited about all these new pvp skins I’m getting lol

I’m happy with it. Really happy actually.
Thumbs up Anet, it’s a good progression mechanic. Give a raise to whoever implemented it. Take it out of your LS writers salary.
methinks that_its the downside of appealing to that sort of players.
At beginning we had an awesome community, the biggest damage was when they wanted to lure in the game another target audience that i don t really like and that was actually keeping me far from mmorpgs.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I don’t seeing this game appealing to anyone but casual gamers, unfortunately.

this sentence makes you a casual player….

aside from the typo, do elaborate?

disgusted about some people’s complaints about the new achievement point rewards?
Not really. People complain about anything, this is just another example. For stuff like that, i’m quite certain the game companies have enough sense to brush is off as silly. Usually.
Best to just laugh at it, really. Not much else you can do about it.
Honestly, I dont care about the new reward system, it doesn’t add anything to the game.

sounds exactly as those people saying “most people is dumb”….but being that a sentence said by most people it can have onlly 2 meanings:
1) most people saying “most people is dumb” is dumb
2) the sentence is false
I opt for the 2…..
Same example may apply to your statement…gw2 appeals only to casual players…you play GW2 thus appeals to you.
So unless you are a casual player, that statement is wrong.
I could say i know quite a lot of experienced players coming from really competitive games even at esport level, playing only the PVE side of this game.
Some of them even says that some dungeons are really hard (and i agree, they are made easy negating mechanics but that is OT).
So i don t think this game appeal to casuals.

Yes, I play GW2
however I’m extremely underwhelmed with how the game is as of this state. I never said the game is appealing to me. don’t put words into my mouth.

Why are you playing a game that doesn’t appeal to you then? That is one of the most silly things I have ever heard. Games are meant to be fun, if they don;t appeal to your sense of fun then you should stop playing them immediately.

oh, I have stopped playing. but I log on once in a while, do a couple tpvp with my friends who still play and log back off. this thread is not whether or not I’m a casual player or not, it’s to show my annoyance towards people who are complaining about the achievement rewards. but thanks for your input anyway lol

Ah, the old, ‘because I don’t like this game, everyone else must be casuals/bads/etc’ thing. Along with, ‘I play it even though I don’t enjoy it’ which makes no sense at all. You should play a game for what it is, not what you wish it would be, because you will never get everything you want out of one game. Not even the designers get everything they want out of their own game.

disgusted about some people’s complaints about the new achievement point rewards? honestly, how greedy can you be. you’re lucky to even get anything for the amount of points you have and yet all you do is complain. I for one am happy with what I’m given. I have a good amount of badges of honor (some of you were complaining about how difficult they were to get, and now when they’re being handed for free you still complain) and some really cool weapon skins. Let alone account bonuses, gold and even karma.
Nope you’re not the only one that feels this way. Had my own little rant about it (and even remained pretty polite) in another thread. What’s even more sad is how many people are [seemingly] ok with this type of destructive behavior.

Well, they probably could, but Rules 101 of game design: you are not your target audience.
While it is true that they want to design a game that they as the devs enjoy, the truth is that they do have to add or program things they may not necessarily want to so it will be more appealing to their target audience, in order to sell the product. As with all products, this also means that the game isn’t going to appeal to everyone, and nor should it. Sadly, some people just don’t understand the last concept and still expect it to be more tailored to them instead.

I love the new AP rewards. Even if I don’t intend to use some of them, I love that we even have them. Thanks ANet!
P.S. I find it ironic that there is a thread made specifically to complain about people complaining. Not that they don’t need to learn some manners, but still … ironic thread.
Also, even more ironic that this has devolved into a complaint thread completely OT (eg the “am I a casual player” stuff that’s crept it’s way in). I think, that this says it all, OP. People will complain about anything. No, it doesn’t make it right.
But also, if every thread on the form contained nothing but nice messages … well, I don’t think I’d read most of them, lol.

Lol true, it is ironic.
However, I look at it this way. If no one ever steps forward to say something about the issue (ie, the massive amounts of non-constructive negativity on this forum), then it is less likely to be addressed. Possibly never addressed, as by remaining silent, people assume that the views/behaviors are acceptable, when in truth they aren’t.
We (generally) don’t accept it ‘in the real world,’ we really shouldn’t on the net either. By letting it go here, and accepting it, we are starting to see it reflected in the real world (have been for quite some time really) and its sending the wrong messages. It really is about time that we start setting some boundaries, and enforcing some basic manners, imo.

While I agree with everything you say, and I also respect that there are people willing to step forward, take the flak and say outright that this isn’t right. I also believe that a) you cause yourself a LOT of unnecessary grief and harm in terms of getting aggro directed your way; b) you actually end up causing more hostility in cases where the aggro becomes directed your way and new arguments crop up; but mostly, c) that ANet need to set their policy on what is and is not tolerated on their forums, and decide the appropriate action to take. It is not, unfortunately, in our power to do much about the overall forum – yes, we can bring the tone of a thread round from argument to discussion with patience and being polite ourselves, but no, we can’t change the whole forum because we have no power. That is for the mods on the forum, and SHOULD be for the mods on the forum.
It’s not ideal, of course not. But ultimately, the best thing you can do is either ignore it and continue being polite and friendly and hope that people will respond to you the same way (most of the time, they do, in fact), or continue being polite and friendly and if you see an extremely offensive person, report them, but have very legitimate reasons for doing so and give the decision to the people who actually can enforce rules etc.
*c) that ANet need to set their policy on what is and is not tolerated on their forums, and decide the appropriate action to take.
This is actually exactly what I’m aiming for by being willing to speak up. They do have a code of conduct (not that I’m sure 99% of us bothered to read it). It might need some tweaking, but I think they need to be a little more stringent.
Am I innocent in regards to sometimes being a kitten? Nope. None of us are; and some people get infracted and it cools them off. Others continue, but never seem to have any penalty beyond a slap on the wrist. And lets face it, as grumpy and confrontational I admit I am, there are some on here that are really far worse than me. Pull out that ban hammer mods and don’t be afraid to use it!
It is not, unfortunately, in our power to do much about the overall forum -snip- That is for the mods on the forum, and SHOULD be for the mods on the forum.
chuckle I really don’t want the power to moderate the forum. It wouldn’t end well. I do completely agree that it falls on the mods shoulders, I’m just calling for a little more enforcement. (Watch me get infracted for that lol)

Lol, yeah, I’m actually fairly sure that moderating, or attempting to act as a moderator on the forums is a breach of the code of conduct. So, there’s irony working for you :p
But seriously, I see what you and some others are doing and it’s a great thing. Makes me smile knowing there are people who don’t use anonymity to hide behind but think that things like manners, decency, rationality etc go beyond face-to-face communications.
Maybe email a mod and just let them know you have been noticing a trend on the forums? Might get you further. If they ignore it, well, then you’ll know it’s all good with them.

I send reports often, generally with lots of detail and citing additional posts by the ‘offender’ to support the report and my thoughts on it.
Oh, the mods aren’t afraid to step in when they need to. A lot of offensive posts get deleted, even whole threads – if you see it just after being posted you might not notice when it disappears, and if you didn’t see it you’ll never know it was there unless someone mentions it (that’s why it’s against the rules to discuss moderator actions, it keeps away the endless complaints of “all I said was…”).
They will give out warnings or infractions, and if you get too many infractions in a short time you’ll get a “vacation” for a few days, or longer. Infractions rotate out, but it’s possible to get several vacations in a row if you keep getting infractions, eventually the worst offenders will get themselves banned.

Unfortunately, this is what most communities do. They start off with an amazing game and slowly but surely they begin to take it for granted. Once this first step happens, all sorts of complaining starts. I don’t believe there has been any reason to complain about anything in the progression of this game so far. I believe the game has been heading in the right direction with every step it has taken thus far. However, if everything isn’t “perfect” (and by perfect I mean exactly the way a particular player wants the game to be) then it’s time to come onto the forums and complain…which is exactly why my sig says what it does. lol
Well, no, I don’t feel disgusted when people complain about the rewards. But, I do feel that Anet has done an excellent job with the AP rewards. I’m glad they included laurels and the mix of items makes for a real sense of reward—at least for me. They said they were looking at reward for play and this is a very positive step in the right direction.
