…who thinks that the game described here in the forums, mostly by haters or QQing people, is completely different from the one I enjoy playing? I mean yes there are some aspects, like the effort needed to craft a legendary weapon, which most people(me for example)really don’t like. It seems like people bring their rage here and write wall posts about “omg the game itz baad I don t like fractal the game iz ruined events suck” just to do something about their frustration. I mean is the game really that bad as described in forums? Coming here without trying the game makes it seem like the worst MMORPG ever in every aspect. I have a thief, 100% fun. Every single time I play. Im having a lot of fun with wintersday events and jumping puzzle and I LOVED Halloween and clocktower. So what’s all this whole rage about? Childish people only? Really? Dunno maybe I’m lucky with GW2 or I don’t take it seriously as some of you do. The game isn’t perfect ok, but I can’t really identify it with the one described in these forums. Just wanted to share these feelings.

People who are happy with their product almost never go to the forums to express their delight, maybe 1 out of 100 does, on other hand people who dislike the certain aspects or sometimes the whole product they have bought feel the need to express their feelings more than the happy ones, which again is fine because most people who “qq” on the forums do it because they care about the game and want to draw attention to the problems in the game. Feedback is always welcomed weather is good or bad and it always helps the developers one way or another.
Creating constructive feedback however, is entirely different matter, some do it good, while some not so good but they all want to help this game grow and improve in their own way.

Some might be, yes. But they do bring up some good points.

The real main issue people are talking about is diminishing returns preventing you from doing what you want. Fun is only what they want you to consider fun etc.

Yeah I’m the first to say that feedback is an essential thing for games, especially of this genre. But it really seems sometimes that people cast rage-guided sentences and curses with no actual interest in helping the game grow. The game is extreme fun to me, never felt the need of getting a refund or making a rage post. But hey, I guess it’s because everyone is different from each other. Thank you for the answer

Oh, yeah. My friend is a thief too. He`s having a blast in WvW and is rarely seen in open-world areas. I am an open-world junkie and I spend much more time in game. I managed to occasionally draw him into some of the Plinx runs pre-nerf, he was kinda impressed with loot but didnt like the event itself much and went promptly back in WvW. After 11/15 I started noticing severe decrease in loot drops and shared my fears with him/ His first impression? – “You are kidding me. It`s your imagination. All those people on forum confirming the problem? – they are just trying to milk devs for more drops, it is all just induced panic, it will just die down eventually”. I then had to take him by the hand and do some Plinx in open world with me.
His next reaction – “Holy kitten, you are right, they DID nerf loot”.

So while some are happy in their safe bubble of WvW/fractals/dungeons/PvP, others do suffer from the bugs that are not apparent to you.

That is just an example of what is bothering me most atm.

^^This
This is taken from…inspiration..from another member from another forum.

Even the rage filled, unthoughtful post generally have valid points to a problem that may be occurring in a game. However, it is generally hidden under angst and gibberish and trollish posts, but the base-line complaint is there and is a valid argument.

Generally speaking, though, people do not wish to wade through the garish posts and find the under-lying sentiments and discuss those truly valid arguments. They see wall of text or the general ‘hatefulness’ and dismiss the post out hand (whether for gramatical reasons…if it the poster does not natively speak english) or whatever reasons. The responders to the original poster usually see RAWR RAWR RAWR and don’t find the time to see where the ‘base-line’ complaint it.

For some people feel lied to or cheated by A.Net, they usually post sometyhing along the lines of: They promised the game was going to be [XX] and I got [YY]. I’m quitting! However…a manifesto is not a contractual agreement. It’s a general course, and if teh wind isn’t blowing true, a ship might have to change said course so that it remains afloat istead of being battered and sunk. While it will breed some discontent, what the discontenters don’t realize is that this course was chosen to try and SAVE the game, not to make you (or them) unhappy.

With c omplaints about bug fixes…the game is NEW, it’s barely 4 months live, and no game, TO DATE is bug free. Be patient, GW2 is working to do their best, but there may be reasons as to why the bugs that YOU are concerned about migt not have been addressed yet.

Overall, though, those who complain not only want to be heard by the other players of this game, but they wish that what they think might improve what fun they are having in the game, but forums are usually a place to discuss these aspects.

Look at all the ascended gear complaints. The holy trinity (and lack there-of) complaints, of all the ’bug fixes (and lack there-f) complainst. These people DO want to see the game be better, or else why complain?

None of the concerns presented in posts on the forums are concerns of mine.

Actually as I typed that I realised there is one, DCing in fractals and not being able to rejoin. But the problem isn’t preventing me from doing fractals or enjoying the rest of the game.

I am still enjoying the game. I agree with one thing you said OP, that many people seem to take the ‘game’ too seriously. I have a good time, I don’t do stuff in the game I don’t want to, I just cruise through content and am still enthralled by the game.

well, are you any better when you have to come to the forum and antagonize people of differing opinion as haters and whiners when your post would have worked the same leaving out those attacks? Doubtful. Let´s see how you sound when you encounter something in the game YOU dislike, I have a certain anticipation what happens then…

I will say that there are legitimate gripes with some things in the game, and that people should be able to express their concerns with these issues.

However some of them, instead of giving constructive feedback to the game developer, shout and cry about it. Even when they receive word from the developers that they are working on the problems, they act impatient and conjure conspiracy theories about everything, when they don’t know anything at all.

And then, when the developers make good on their promises and deliver, they are ungrateful and say things like: “Well, it’s their job. I say thanks when I buy gems, which I’m not going to do until they address my issues with X and X.”

So, yeah. I don’t have a lot of respect for how this community handles the feedback in the general discussion area. I sincerely hope that they don’t scare off potential players who might be reading these posts.

I was just sharing an opinion algreg. Constructive feedback is ok. It’s essential. As I said there are things that I don’t like, but from your reaction you’re probably one of those “unhappy about something” players. I’m not antagonizing anyone, everyone has his own opinion. I sincerely don’t mind if someone feels depressed because the event wasn’t good enough for his tastes or wants a refund because “omg the game itz dying”. I was just curious about their need to come here and make the game look like a failure because something disappointed them. Some players do posts about things they dislike in a very normal way: problem explaination—> suggestions—→ solution. What I don’t understand is how some others have to sentence and judge guild wars or arena net because they can’t have all things their way. “Pve sucks omg I diez all the timez, wow is better, I quit”. Now tell me how this kind of comment can be useful or constructive. No one here is saying feedback is unnecessary, I just think that not all posts in this forum can be called “feedback”.

Sure, not all can be considered ‘feedback’, but at the same time, even rant posts can be a platform to open up discussions. Trollish posts will often attract the trollish response, but again, subjectisms can be extrapolated, expanded upon, and a discussion can be had. And from discussions can come solutions.

It is like a post I once replied to:

“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”

-unknown

It’s the same with this game. It’s the same with ANY game.

But those who are happy with this game are ‘less’ likely to express their opinions while those who are NOT happy want people to understand, maybe even…sympathize with them. They want to try and help the game in the way they can envision it in their head, and it may not mesh with your vision of the game’s or A.Net’s, but sometimes, they make suggestions that get shot down before even being heard.

To generalize about the forums is to fall into the same error as generalizing about the game. Just as with the game, you have to engage with the issues raised, if you want to participate, evaluate them and form a view or understanding around a given issue raised.

I’m always concerned when people are labelled as whiners or haters just because they take issue with some element of the game. Some are right-on, some are off-base, but those you label haters, if not trolls, are probably those most invested in the game, perhaps the most ardent fans of the game who have been put off for some reason. You have to evaluate the reason given on a case by case basis. This is the way, I believe, the forums will work best for the purpose for which Anet intended them. I believe the main reason for the Discussion forum is to discuss the game, not the players.

Actually the forums are full of players who come to troll players looking for help, or to brag because of some complex or another. The forums are a bipolar spectrum of the actual game (including posts like those mentioned in the OP, and their elitist opposites). It’s a common phenomenon. It’s fairly lucid and helpful on Tarnished Coast anyway

It all has to do with the level of passion and attachement you have to something.

For example, some people are happy driving a “car” and can’t understand why some people need to drive a “BMW” and then complain even then that it isn’t perfect.

it’s not that you don’t care, but you care far less than the complainers. They want a perfect game, just as they interpreted in their mind. But for players just playing a game, you don’t notice the problems.

While it is true that a small fraction of the total playerbase of a game comes to forums (it’s usually max 5%), there are threads on this forum (usually complaints about something) that stretch well beyond 100,000 views.

Take that to mean whatever you want it to.

I think it boils down to a general misunderstanding.

You see, some people are just confused about what/why the forums are here for.

The forums are simply a place where the players of all servers and all time zones can discuss various aspects of the game (as nerds do, let’s face it, it’s a very nerdy thing but it’s okay…we’re amongst friends :p ) , voice their opinions and give their feedback to the community coordinators who then might pass on general highlights of what is generally discussed to the developing team/publishers/etc (whoever might be concerned by what they find).

However others believe the forums are a place where the developers heed our every words and should bend their game/future decisions to our every whims ;and if they do not, then they are fickle things and we should have never bothered to support the game in the first place :O

Two very different mentalities. One discusses, the other demands.

I actually log on to the forums as soon as I wake up and have a poke around prior to playing, mainly because those who have been playing may have found bugs or issues ingame. I like to be notified of these things before I go there and find out the hard way.

I don’t think people who are here and post a lot (I know I have started to) are ‘Haters’ or ‘QQ-ing’ – Yes, I have expressed my frustration over some things, but I don’t hate on a game I spent money on and spend my free time on, nor do I ‘QQ’ about it. I merely write my frustrations on here to bring them in to the light and hope to find other people who may have had the same experiences as me, and may be able to offer me some advice or way to bypass (If it can be bypassed), or if not, it will at least bring it to A-Nets attention

I think you should scout the forums some more, because all of the posts on here aren’t negative or filled with any frustration.

However, when you see people posting threads venting frustration about being DC’d on the final boss of the last fractal and being unable to re-enter the instance, or people being DC’d during world events (Or not being able to participate at all), then you must put yourself in their shoes and try to see their point of view.
You may then find that it’s not hating or QQing, but merely a little frustration for a valid reason.
