The amount of daily achievement points, and the amount of time it takes to get them, seems to be increasing. Is anyone else finding this to be too much? I’m trying to keep up on the achievement boards, I’m in the top ten, but I’m finding these added achievements to not be casual/work/school friendly. Daily tournaments won alone adds a lot of time if you don’t happen to win 2 games quick.

Yes, i know I don’t “need” to get the to get ALL of them, but competing at the top 10 spot I do need to get every point I can. I’m finding I might not be able to keep up soon, which will kinda destroy some of the point to why I log in now.

What are you’re thoughts on this? I don’t mean to wine about it, i like that there are more options to get for dailies, I just don’t like the push get get all the achievement points available.

You’re correct, being in the top 10 requires a dedication to the game that is not casual-friendly. The solution: quit school/work/family activities to devote your entire life to the game. I mean, the alternative is to give up your spot in the top 10 to actually have a life or something, and who’s going to do that?

I’m currently in the top ten without having to nolife the game. It isn’t until the game demands a large amount of daily play to keep up that there is an issue.

Not everyone plays the same way, which is great about this game. PvP isn’t the only thing I like to play. Also, I understand that some people enjoy the extra achievement points.

So yes, please create more options to do the dailies, but without increasing the time commitment. This way, I can spend that extra time (if I have it) to enjoy playing the game the way I want it.

Is that an unreasonable viewpoint?

It’s not the game, it’s the other players. If you put 10 hours a day into the game but someone else puts 15 hrs per day, then they are going to eventually pull ahead in points.

Exactly. Add the option to do which ones you want, but don;t give extra points for each after that. I highly doubt anyone at Anet will even read this, but I really wish they would make the change quick.

Oh, yeah, the OCD argument… “if it gives me a point, I’m forced to do it because then I’m missing a point and tomorrow I’m missing two points… etc.”

This has to do with the way you look at the game, it’s not a problem with the game itself. The only solution is inside you.

I’m talking about the daily points available. The ones that are gone the next day. We are talking about two different things here. One is the daily demand to get points as they will become unavailable, the other being the amount people play.

I don’t think your’re getting the point. Also, have I wronged you in some way? You seem a little aggressive here.

Yeah, now I get it. It’s not a problem, it’s your perception. And there is absolutely no chance that you and I will ever agree about the issue, so I’ll just leave you to it.

Think Ewon is saying that he plays for the achievement, but the increasing additions of achievements and also making them longer (for 1 point) is making it less fun.

Personally, I’m not worried about the achievement points, but I do wish Anet would stop making it take a lot longer to complete each category of daily/monthly achievements.

If you are going for a position on the achievement board you need to go for the achievement points that are available. I’m saying the daily requirement to get all daily achievement points is increasing. What is your opinion on THAT. Not that I’m playing the game wrong, I’m OCD, I don;t need all the points, i should stop playing, or just get them and shut up.

I’m looking for opinions on the daily requirement of time to get all achievement points, regardless of if you want them or not. I’m looking for a discussion here. If you do not ahve an interest in achievement points, why even come here?

My opinion? I feel sorry for you. Good luck.

I’ve been doing RL stuff and haven’t checked the dailies yet… just did and it looks like they added more OPTIONAL choices to do the dailies? If so then great! More options are better. There should be more of them.

Achievement charts — and the effort it takes to get to and stay at the top of a list — is a concession to people who want the amount of time they spend in game to matter. Some people, well, that floats their boat.

I for one enjoy the amount of dailies and wouldn’t be upset if they increased them yet again. They give me something to look forward to at reset, and I do look forward to them. I consider myself to be on the low end of being a hardcore player, I am not in the top 10 but try to do as much as possible, and I still have my dailies done easily within one hour. So I don’t see time as being a huge factor, perhaps it does take away from something else in game you could be doing, but keep in mind the more stuff that is there the better, you can choose which content you play.

I did i came back to test what they did with the engineer, while they improved the PVE engineer they seriously messed up any reason to login.

The dailies are now crazy, they literally take a whole day to do in some cases.
Some requirements are just stupid like WvW or PvP or Dungeons, still not seeing open world stuff we’ve been asking for since launch after we discovered that was no longer the focus (as per the 7 years we were told it would be).

we got guide telling us basically what’s happening in an area but no pointers to tell us where. (invasions)

We got enormous amounts of mobs to kill 150? really?

we have weird requests like killing 3 maguuman or whatever champions but dunno where they are or where to find them.

As usual it’s just one big mess.

I am myself an achievement point “hunter” , around rank 250-300 in europe and I find it really annoying. 10 different pve and 6 different pvp dailies to do for achievement points. I think the best solution would be to not give further achievement points for additional daily tasks after getting your daily chests. This would also mean merging pvp and pve dailies.
That would in return mean 5 achievement point per day from dailies.

Sadly I highly doubt this sort of thing will actually change. Makes me sad as i will most likely slowly stop playing the game. Achievement points was what I set my sights on once I finished the other stuff i wanted to do in the game. The new additions as more option is great. The increased amount of achievement points to get, is a major time killer.

As for the past dailies, i do find it completely unfair that someone starting today has no chance at all of catching up to me. I’m an achievement guy, so if I picked up this game today, i would quickly stop.

That being said, i knew I was going o be an achievement guy in whichever game I went with, so starting in beta was a must.

I’m happy with the current design. Staying on top of the leaderboard should be a matter of dedication, not simply logging on for an hour a day. On a related topic, monthly achievements should be much more difficult for the huge number of points they give.

i don’t know why they decided that a rank would be necessary.
i hate to compete for something, especially if competition can’t be fair. achievement competition cannot be fair since dailies give achievement and there will always be people who complete them all and people who can’t. people who doesn’t play pvp or wvwv or people who hate pve.
there will be people that buy the game today that have no means to start the competition at all…

don’t we have already arena to compete (also messing professions with not wanted nerf btw)?

i don’t remember if in gw1 there was an achievement rank, but you get the achievement to have nice titles. or even some skill.

now we get the achievement for what? a rank that will never change unless the top ten players dies or change game?

I’m just having a hard time letting go right now. I was already starting to struggle with balancing work, having a life, gw2, actually playing other games, and trying to keep up with graphic design trends. My work take up a lot of extra time as I have been doing 60-70 hours some weeks. I just didn’t think when I came home today that the decision would be made for me.

As I do have the day off tomorrow, I think I will try to finish off as much as I can. I have 140+ points I was saving to spike up the list. After that, I’ll just see what spot I managed to grab and that will have to be good enough. I might continue to try without killing myself with every single point, or I might just decide to move on from this game completely. We shall see, but I think my fun is over.

Thank you all for you thoughts.

My personal opinion: you should stop trying to keep your rank. It’s only going to make you more and more crazy as time goes on and it’s really not healthy setting aside hours every single day that you MUST play a video game just to keep up. Unless you plan on playing this game forever you will eventually get knocked off at some point anyways, so just quit while you’re ahead. Take a screenshot of your current rank and move on.

I propose a counter-question: Why did you post this thread? You’ve said you’re leaving, and I don’t think there’s a reason to try to stop you. The only point to this thread is to stand on a soapbox and shout your opinions. Now, my post was mostly saying “you know, this isn’t a major flaw with the game, but you can go if you want to”.

I wish you well in your next game, might I find some recommendations for you? No, not that one, I was thinking the Shin Megami Tensei MMO. Might be fun.
