I recently purchased GW2 because I completely loved GW1 and I was interested in a non-subscription based mmo. I’ve been playing for a few days and I feel as if the game is EMPTY. I’m on server Sorrow’s Furnace and I feel like the only person playing. The game is so empty that I might as well be playing a single-player game. WHAT IS WITH THIS?! It’s getting to me so much that I’m not playing like I expected I would be. I’m barely playing at all.

:( I’m bored alone.

Sorry to hear that. You can always guest to other servers and possibly find a better experience there. =)

Added you, as soon as I finish clearing my inventory I will hop over to Sorrow’s Furnace (and the Black Citadel, where you currently are) to play with you.

what race did you start with?

yak’s bend seems to be fairly active and I’m sure tarnished coast has quite a few as well. If you are in the asura and silvari starting zone, it will seem a bit empty. Queensdale is by far the most active of all the starting areas.

A lot of things can factor in too. Like what time you play. What zones you are at.

I play from 2am to 5am and still run into a fair number of people in the human starter area for my dailies. The mid zones do feel a bit more empty. There’s still a good size group jumping to world bosses and dragons at that time on my server.

Yeah I don’t know if it’s the scenery or the events, but people do seem to like the human area more.

Yeah, people are starting to get fed up with some of the things Anet’s doing. Game is still very populated though. Try guesting over to Tarnished Coast.

I started Charr and I’m currently level 17. Character name Cynistera. I don’t have a set play time just yet. I’ve whispered to people running around but most of the time they don’t respond. I’m an avid gamer so my own level of disconnect is concerning. I think one of the factors may be that there is no free trial. In Wow, people were playing even long after they hit the level 20 cap.

Humans as a race are more popular, and tend to be people’s first choice when they enter the game. Queensdale becomes their most familiar zone, so they keep going back there to level. Plains of Ashford is probably the opposite.

GW2 PvE is excellent the first time through but lacks replayability. Many players have completed all the zones as its a requirement to get a Legendary so leveling a 2nd character fails to give an unique experience causing many players to just craft level alts.

You can try the Operation Union thread on the Players Helping Players board if you’re looking for players to group with but you’re just not going to find that vibrant, active world you’re looking for anywhere.

I’ve been working on world completion on tarnished coast, and there is generally someone near me. I would recommend guesting here and see if it works out better for you.

I play on Gunnar’s Hold since beta and have yet to find a place that is really empty.
Some servers are just more active in PvE I guess.
Char zones tend to be more empty than the Human or Norn areas, one of the reasons I prefer them actually, because Queensdale is like a zerg almost all the time.

I can of course suggest that you just move to a more populated zone but since I particularly love the Charr lands, all I can say is maybe guest to a PvE focussed server.

I hear good things about Aurora Glade and Piken Square- naturally my preference is for Gunnar’s

Another thing is whispers are a bit hit and miss.- If you are in a zone speak in /map
- like Hi, what you guys doing?, Event up, can any one for questing etc. or just general nonsense to start a conversation.
With people in your line of sight use /say to communicate

Edit: sorry, I see you play on a NA server- disregard my server choices then

Good thing I picked a pretty good server based solely on the fact that I like the song by Johnny Cash.

Speaking of cash, 25 euro to change server LOLOLOLOL.

GW2 skill system is super uber boring and that is why many people are leaving and I believe some of their staff often post stuff on forums with regular accounts to praise the crap out of their game or dumb down criticism on their game.

So if you don’t like ANet and other people do it’s because they’re ANet sock puppets… Ok then… I’ll just be leaving now… no need to follow me home or anything… you just stay there in the corner mumbling to yourself.

It does depend a lot on what server you’re on, but if you ever think you’re alone in a map try telling people a world boss event chain is starting.

I was running across Wayfarer Foothills the other day and I’d gotten all the way from Hoelbrak to the camp about 1/2 way up and seen maybe 3 people in total. I happened to notice The Frozen Maw event chain starting so I announced it in map chat and pinged the waypoint. By the time the first wave of enemies showed up there were about 30 people and by the time we got to the boss it was the usual situation of being unable to actually see him for all the people and spells.

Also bear in mind that unlike a lot of MMOs being in a party doesn’t give you any benefits for the vast majority of content, BUT also unlike a lot of MMOs a group of players can function like a party without actually being in one.

Which means that if you happen to see other players doing the same things you are you don’t need to try and persuade them to form a party, you can just start playing together.

One of my favourite cooperative experiences so far was when I was doing the Font of Rhand mini-dungeon with a bunch of random other people. At no point were we in a party together, but we still worked like one. As soon as we realised we were all doing the dungeon together we split into two groups to each do part of the first section, then when we got the gate open I held it open until everyone came through, and someone else did the same for me at the next gate. When we got to the boss we had people setting up combos, healing each other, calling out tactics in /say. It was just like doing a dungeon with a party, but we didn’t have to bother about the interface or restrict ourselves to a fixed group.

You can also try starting a conversation in map chat. That generally goes better than whispering random people.

And yet your still here. I’ve never understood why if you don’t like a game why do you hang around and post on the forums. I didn’t like Diabo 3 so I just didn’t play for that long. I didn’t log into there forums everyday and make posts about it.

Having 100% map, all POIs, Vistas and Hearts, I don’t feel like going through the all boring zones again with an alts.

I have 4 level 40-20 characters and I have no desire whatsoever to level them up to 80 doing same old boring maps, repetitive hearts and killing same monsters again.

Played my 28 Warrior alt Yesterday, 25-30 Zone, didn’t saw a single player.

For some people sure, not all. I only went through queensdale on my human. I have all races and 5 lvl 80 one lvl 72. There is no reason to be worried about only seeing one or two people when there are many, many other places they can be instead of right beside you.

It is a big problem right now. I bet anything that if someone were to look at the SF server it would say full but it doesn’t help if everyone from that server is guesting on other servers does it.

It’s a weird backfire to this design. I wish they had just gone with merging the lower level zones automatically like single shard games do that way your toon would be saved on 1 server but would interact with multiple servers all the time depending on where one went in the world they’d always see someone. Sortof like what WoW did with lower level zones in their most recent expansion.

They have the technology because overflow servers and guesting are available, not sure why this wasn’t done honestly.
