An alternative to new races.
This reminds me of that Quake game (Quake4?) where you get Stroggified partially and fight the rest of the game as a cyborg. xD
This could work… However, I’d say only for dragons that have been slain. Atm I can see three sub races come into play this way:
Sylvari: Subrace – Mordrem Guard
Since the mordrem are left without a leader, some of the Mordrem guard might rejoin the Sylvari, having regained their own mind.
All races except Sylvari: Subrace – Rissen
Since the demise of Zaithan, the mightiest amongst his forces might have gained self control. These beings might have been good people in their life and in their unlife, they might be willing to fight for the living.
All races: Blighted
Beings that raised from victims bound to a blighting tree, might gain awareness of what they are and what their originals were. Such creatures could possibly form a wish to become more than draconic minions, just like the Sylvari are more than that.
EDIT: I could never see a destroyer as playable. However, whatever have happened to the flame legion, it is clear that they have been influenced by primordus. So I could see his corruption do things to people.
Leave it to A-net to decide whether the suggestion is possible or not.
Friend of Steve. Friend of Steve. Friend of Steve. Friend of Steve.
All races except Sylvari: Subrace – Rissen
Since the demise of Zaithan, the mightiest amongst his forces might have gained self control. These beings might have been good people in their life and in their unlife, they might be willing to fight for the living.
And their elite specs could involve heavy use of riffles.

How is elite specs related to new races? xD

The Friend of Steve subrace sounds pretty darn cool
It sounds like an interesting idea. I don’t think it could replace a plain, simple, old school new race, but it could add some variety for the game when needed.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

So, kinda like ‘Liberated Borg’? Cool.

The flame legion are not influenced by Primordus
Whilst visually the sub race corruption idea would look cool, the models would still each be different from the main race and have risks to the armour clipping. It also would not make any sense to have a liberated dragon minion of a Dragon still alive and active, the Pact would li,ely be prejudiced against them and not want the PC anywhere near vital missions. That would mean a diverging story, where resources for which are non-existant.
Frankly it would prob be easier to actually do a single new race than have a lot of sub races from what I can see
Eins – Tune racial skills to be competitive with class skills.
Zwei – Add a Racial Lore core mastery that eventually allows all races access to all racial skills. (e.g. reputation skills from GW:EotN)
Drei – Remove class skills as standard utilities, but add a single slot skill for your single racial skill of choice. (to give the Revenant some love)

I like this idea, it has a lot of good things :
- Less generic than just another race (in terms of seperating from other MMO’s)
- More Options to expand story after a dragon has been killed.
- Gives more looks (difference between Tengu and Undead Charr, human etc.)
I’m glad this idea got some traction, thanks for the replies!
Why not just use tonics?

Reminds me of the Awakened Collector race in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. I like the idea.
Would the better alternative not be to have players opt for reincarnating as Awakened, with Egyptian face options added and, regardless of the former, being able to switch to the Mordant Crescent as the final multiracial order?

As far as I know, the only case of reincarnation in the lore of guild wars, is the monk skill from gw1. Save for that I’m not aware of there having ever been any case of it before?
I am however in doubt. Can anyone else shed some light on this matter? Is reincarnation in accordance with the guild wars lore?
The Egyptian face thing, well… I suppose more character customization have never been a bad thing… o.O
That said: I have a hard time seeing how this is relevant to the topic? o.O I mean, awakening as an undead or a sylvari becomming a mordrem guard, or turning into the friend of Steve is hardly a rebirth. Infact, i fail to see how any of the corruption can cause any kind of rebirth?
