Ancient Karka Repeatable?
Frankly, I think everything after phase 1 was kind of a mess. Phase 2 almost completely bugged out so you had no idea what was going on besides there suddenly being a boat and we were invading. Phase 3 was out of the blue. Was there any reference to an ancient crab outside of the mail everyone got? The whole finale seemed a bit rushed (what with the 3 some hour long event to slowly push a crab into some explosives).
I think it was more asking whether or not events like those should be repeatable within a time period (like people requesting 3 hour or so instances in a 24 hour time period).
I think that they should be repeatable if the account (maybe character… maybe) can only do it once.
I attended Friday, but missed both Saturday and Sunday events. I basically said that one-off events in a perpetual online game are not only inane but insulting to your playerbase. Some of us have other obligations and with the event it made me suddenly have a new island (good) but without a reason for it there (bad).
Tbh they should tone down the loot reward and leave the event in game like the dragons.
As it stands now that whole new zone is a total waste of time. I feel sorry for the artists and designers that worked hard on it.

On the other hand, with the zone being relatively empty that means they can add more events there in the future without disrupting things too much. But yeah, if they just leave the zone like that for the rest of time it will be a huge waste.

It is unlikely that they will. Making brand new content and zones gets far more people playing than adding to old content. Anet could have put all the effort they put in to fractals and cursed shore in to fixing WvW, Spvp, and the under used dungeons and zones. However they did none of those things in favour of adding new half finished content.
This is a very common pattern with smaller studios Anet, CCP, Trion, all do the same thing.

Huh? Your point is self-contradictory unless you feel adding a new zone as being a prerequisite for adding new content. My argument is that adding new content is difficult to do with all the prior zones because they had a story that couldn’t change much. Hence they added the new zone. This zone has no story other than we invaded it after the consortium did something there to really annoy the crabs. The crabs are still there, the consortium is still there. I wouldn’t be surprised if they added from there.
In GW1 the special event finales would happen every 3 hours for an entire 24 hours period so more people could attend them. Phase 1 and 3 could easily have been done like that so instead of 3 one-time events the friday and sunnday events (including the one with the big rewards) could have been repeated to let more people participate. The rewards chest could check if the achievement was done and give toned down rewards after the first event.
The Karka need some work. The big Karka should at least have grey/brown shells and turn pink when you kill them the first time so you can visually tell the shell is gone. A separate shell cracking animation instead of duplicating the death animation would be nice also.
Still, I had some fun and think this sort of event is better than just releasing a patch with a new zone.

When I said I wanted the Ancient Karka to be repeatable, I meant repeatable during the finale day. I’m fine with it being dead and gone forever after the event is finished.

While I think one-time events are a good thing in general, what I couldn’t reflect in the survey was that ideally they should be available as a “once only” per account during a limited time period. I’m not sure how this could be done on a technical level, but with imaginative use of overflows, it may be possible.
The idea being, if you log on during the event period and you haven’t already done the event, you get shunted into an event overflow. If you’ve already done it, you just get placed in your regular server. This allows people to experience the event “once” without affecting those who have already done it.
I do think the zone is rather lackluster without a major event in it. A boss similar to the Ancient Karka is very desirable. And it may be nice if the chest rewards are similarly well-stocked. I suspect it would cut down on 90% of the event complaints easily.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
