Earlier today while I was pushing myself to grind out maps for Gift of Exploration, I ran into a friend who said that Anet already had designs for new legendary weapons.

I am having both a like and hate with this. If I am going to spend all this time grinding for a legendary – this is it. I am not doing another one and I would be beyond livid to grind out the entirety of my Bolt (only one I like on thief that works for RP as well) just to have them release an awesome sword legendary.

I wouldn’t mind if it was a legendary upgrade, where you have to have Bolt to then upgrade to the new legendaries (Basically making the legendary a precurser for the next release of legenaries) , then I wouldn’t feel like I wasted all my time on Bolt. But if there are designs already for legendaries — people should have the right to know and know when it plans to be released so they can plan accordingly. It’s not like it only takes a few days to farm.

Nothing has been announced about new legendaries since shortly after launch. Having more than 1 set of legendaries would make them not-so-legendary, now would it?

Not really.

Look at all of the Legendary swords from our myth and legends:

  • Excalibur
  • Claiomh Solais
  • Naegling
  • Hrunting
  • Caladbolg

Maybe it’d be interesting if each race had weapons that they considered to be Legendary, much like how different cultures in RL have different views.

For example, the Bow of Pyre Fierceshot would be considered important to the Charr.

As much as I support your idea, you’re basically asking for 5 legendary weapon sets…

Because adding some variety in a game that really lacks of it, could be a reeeeeaaaally bad idea, isn’t it?

Well…i always hope from the game beginning that they create some legendary armor to complement with the weapons!

I hope so, maybe acquired in a different manner. I’d love a massive, lore-filled quest that ended in a legendary, maybe something specific to your class or race. The GW2 version of an Everquest epic quest.

It wasn’t so much a proper suggestion as me thinking out loud.

If I were going to expand it however:

  • Each race wouldn’t have a full set of weapons. For example, Humans would have weapons based on the belief of the Six (Balthazar’s Beheader, Melandru’s Bow, Dwayna’s Rod) while Norns would have theirs based around alcohol Animal Spirits. Speaking from lore, this would be acceptable, since I’m pretty sure none of the Human Gods wielded guns, while guns, rifles and the like fit into the whole Eternal Alchemy theme.
  • All in all, there would be one Legendary for each weapon. All races can use these. However, they only have the Legendary tag when wielded by a member of that Race, otherwise they’d be Exotic. These Legendaries would be account-bound, and even if wielded by a member of a different race, if the stats do get raised because of Ascended, the weapon would be raised to Ascended stats (even though it’d be an Exotic weapon).

You dont have to get it ya know. I want a legendary, sure. One. Anymore would be overkill, unless it somehow fell into my lap. If they added new ones, it doesnt mean you HAVE to get those too. Unless you are some sort of ultra completionist, which is a fool’s errand in GW2.

I don’t care either way because a Legendary is not in my gaming plan. However, I bet if they did make some new ones and some people perceived them as cooler than the one they already have, they would be running in here with their heads exploding.

Well that would be a drat, wouldn’t it? Rytlock Brimstone wields the legendary sword Sohothon, twin to Magdaer. If it were only legendary in the hands of Rurik it wouldn’t exactly be that great, would it? If a human were to find the Claw of the Khan Ur (no spoilers for Ghosts of Ascalon for you!) and have it be rendered useless in their hands how legendary of a weapon would it be?

Well, yes they are planning on more.
“We still plan to do both new legendary weapons, as well as a clear path (on top of the current random chance) to gain precursors which players can see their progress and understand how much work they have left to do to gain it.
It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.”
