Anet, RP, and macros.
Tainted Phoenix[PHNX] – Mesmer Collective[Mes]
From the Rules of Conduits:
You may not use any third-party program (such as a “bot”) in order to automate gameplay functions, including playing, chatting, interacting, or gathering gold or items within Guild Wars 2. You may not assist, relay, or store gold or items for other players who are using these processes."
It appears no :\
But that is just appearance.
I don’t know the extensive of the word automate since ArenaNet has no problem with me playing with an xbox controller.
Imo this entry from the official ANet news page…
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/new-the-steelseries-guildwars2-gaming-keyboard/
…muddies the issue quite nicely.
So, basically what I want to do is make a macro to do emotes in game so that it saves me from typing them out during roleplaying. So the macro would do these keystrokes:
Enter -> / -> w -> a -> v -> e -> (space) -> @ -> Enter
Waving is supposed to convey a warm sense of recognition. An insincere /wave is to be taken as an insult, that you don’t really like the person but feel obligated towards acknowledging them.
It seems like you are using your macros to gain an ‘in-character’ advantage, to miscommunicate warmth to a fellow roleplayers; while in reality you are demonstrating indifference and laziness. This could secure you a huge advantage while roleplaying a shady betraying type of personality, because other people could perceive you as genuinely eager to see them based on how fast your character initiates the wave. They won’t see it coming when you /knifeintheback them.
Unfair roleplaying advantage and complete scumbag move. Banworthy IMO.
I would say that it’s probably ok, as long as you don’t spam it.
It’s pretty clear that the Rules of Conduct that Nova Stiker quoted contains “chatting” to cover spamming.
An emote cannot, by its very nature, fall under that category. If spamming the animation was bannable, then the dance manuals that were in the Gem Store would not exist. The texts that emotes put out have their own channel, so not only are they completely filterable, there is no downside to that filtering, unlike other chat filters. Thus, you cannot make a valid argument for spamming the emote text bit either.
However, I would say that misusing the emote in a manner akin to “teabagging” in FPS games, is probably something that could get you into trouble.
I don’t want it to spam I just want it because some nights after work my typing is horribly slow. It would also help me from putting a typo in the /wave @ or other emotes keeping me from trying to type it over and over. Not everyone in the world is the best at typing.

My opinion: it’s fine.
ANet’s? I don’t know.
Whether it technically falls in or out of the TOS, I’m sure you won’t get banned for it.
