bc it seems their entire game was made with the thought process that everyone will be doing some damage, which is why a lot of support moves have damage tacked on to them randomly. Though there are exceptions to this, and generally doing active support moves make you lose out on xp and drops, like Guardian’s staff 4.

And also, it takes a lot of work to remake the loot system, instead they could just fix this, as its where their loot system’s problems are most glaring.

My Staff Ele doesn’t get a lot of badges in WvW either. The system is broken in some way.

Hmm really? Healing rain and that healing water spout only take a second to put down and have decently long cooldowns, and all the other debuffs on your water staff do damage I think. Is it because you can’t get to the bodies before they disappear or something?

The game definitely need to reward combat healing/buffing more imo. I don’t feel the Guardian is useless at range though

The scepter is actually a decent ranged weapon imo, although the slowness of the bolts and lag can be an issue (you fire loads of bolts and they all hit after a while in 1 big lump of damage or they hit after the target is already dead). You have a 1200 range attack with the torch and one with the focus

The staff is something you need to be versatile with. You can put the force field behind an enemy and immediately drop down your symbol on whoever you catch. The 600 range auto attack tags targets very well, and even hits through gates. The bolt is a nice medium ranged damage attack, but it can be buggy and unreliable as it gets stuck in “heal” mode and won’t go to cooldown until you press it again, forcing you to wait 10+ seconds to use it again. Would be nice if the bolts were sped up a bit. Empower would be nice as a channelled damage attack (so you can end it early for some damage in a small area, after the 2 second or so).

The only thing that will ever hit on the scepter is its 2, its 1 is almost for like close ranged combat, at 1200 range, it won’t hit anything other than targets that stand still.

They need to take into acct heals rezzing etc. Even CC skills if they can manage it.

At 80 in Orr during zerg fests I actually take a moment and think about rezzing people. And most times I don’t bother till the event is over. Rezzing = less loot and chance for bronze/silver.

Dems the breaks=/

I have more AoEs than that and I use them all and I do damage and probably tag a lot of people. That doesn’t mean I’ll get anything for it. I’m not doing a lot of single target damage to anyone. I’m throwing down a lot of CC, a lot of combo fields, some AoE damage in fire when I’m not using the other stuff, and heals when needed. I do a lot for my team. But it doesn’t reward me.

There are a few posts on this subject in the WvW forum actually. Some people were throwing out badge to kill numbers and I’m at 12.5%. But considering a few of those badges were gotten for taking structures in WvW (on the rare occasion I get a bag for that) than the actual percentage of people I kill that actually drop badges is even less than that. That’s pathetic. What’s even more pathetic is everyone else in that thread was only around 15%. Considering how much stuff costs, the system is seriously broken if so many people are not getting enough badges.

I don’t even know what I can do to reliably earn badges because it seems random. One person suggested it’s based on how much damage you do to that particular target in which case obviously I’m screwed as are a few other class specs. I’m a damage/support spec with a weapon that does a lot of AoE damage, a lot of combo fields, a lot of CC and a lot of heals, so I’m best in a team. But if all my efforts to help that team are only helping them steal badges from me by out damaging me, then what the kitten am I playing a Staff Ele for?

For most targets, I think you need to hit them 3 or more times to tag them.

The problem with that is I’m never going to out damage other people and it also screws over AoE specs which shine in WvW. Staff Ele’s do great support, we’re not built to focus down single targets. If I did that I’d be wasting most of my skillset just so I can farm badges. Am I supposed to pretend I don’t have an arsenal of CC I can use to control our enemies, or an arsenal of combo fields, or a couple great AoE heals? I’m supposed to pretend my class isn’t built around the idea of switching between all 4 Elements and instead sit in fire all day spamming the 1-3 keys on one single target so I can earn badges? Even then, getting a kill does not mean you’ll get a badge. Like I said, my kill to badge ratio is 12.5%. Sounds broken to me.

I think people should concentrate on winning the engagement rather than trying to compete with team mates for badges.

Maybe drops from players should be something people forget about until they finished pvping, where they can then go to an area in their base that gives out their rewards based on the day’s contribution. It should be less about instant rewards during combat and more abstract, so people focus on the actual task at hand

I don’t think that’s really the issue. It seems most people are trying to focus on helping the team but helping the team isn’t earning them the badges they deserve. And a side issue is that it drops on the ground instead of going right into your inventory like other currency does.

The problem is that it becomes pretty costly for someone to WvW if they never get badges.

I don’t want to hate on WvW because I’m enjoying it a lot, it’s just the reward system sucks. I’m tired of broken reward systems, I played enough Aion and TERA. I just want to be able to reliably earn rewards like I can in sPvP and PvE.

They have said (on the Dynamic Events thread I believe) that they will be addressing the no reward for supports.

I looked through the DE forum and haven’t found a red post on this issue O.o
