If only I lived in US I could try the Data Engineer spot, and also they would ignore that I have no experience in game industry, just in commercial. :P

Why I live in Canada . Working at Anet is like my dream.

To be fair I would say that the positions are most likely mainly for post-HoT work rather than HoT itself, since it is unlikely that anyone getting hired now will be up to scratch before HoT is already finished.

They usually have at least a dozen open positions.

Try any software development company.
It isn’t too out of place to hire out contract workers, give them tasks on a project, then keep the ones they like.

But it doesn’t have to be the crunch time of the project either.
There could very well be some component that has to reach a time table, thus the quick hires. Meanwhile the project overall won’t be fully complete until much later.

Much like retail stores hiring seasonal work, then offering the good ones a permanent gig if there’s a spot available.

The amount of positions available doesn’t look any different than any time previously in the past 2-3 years.

I’m not sure that HoT has had any special influence to the amount of positions.

It’s not just software developers.

I work for a wildlife conservation charity and my department literally doubles in size over the summer because that’s when we get 2/3 of our work. When I used to work in retail it was the opposite: most places would hire a lot of extra staff over the winter because Christmas and the January sales were their busiest time. (This worked well for me, until I was able to land a permanent job, I could just switch between the two.)

But yes, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if all MMO developers took on extra staff in the run up to a big release.

If Anet had an opening in their Marketing area, and would be willing to pay me a comparable salary that the government currently does, I’d quit my job and move to Seattle in a heartbeat. I’d even consider cheering on the Seahawks instead of the 49ers. Before Anet releases new products, I could be the voice of reason on how players would respond.

Think i look at the job listings like every week to see if the Animators spot is gone, but it seems to still be open. If only i had 3 years of experience already, but currently still in school for Modeling and Animation oh so would love to work for Anet

Lol every time I look, they are hiring people. I’d apply, but I don’t live anywhere near Seattle…nor do I want to.

If they ever offer remote positions, I’ll apply first thing
