Anet likes New Players Better?
New players are easier to satisfy as you don’t have to create much (if any) new content for them. Of course it’s super shortsighted, but that does seem to be Anet’s thinking.
The transition from GW1 to 2 was fun. Loyal players were rewarded with with lots of cool weapons and costumes for moving to GW2
Now Anet wants to charges us MORE than we paid for the core game and give brand new players more 4 more character slots! Plus for the same price more game.
Anet do you read the forums? Do you care about your Loyal Player any more?
(New players look and lean you will be us soon)
Are you looking at the forms Anet? Why not reward your loyal base instead of giving new playes more?
Which is
The expansion costs more than the game itself. We are literally paying MORE for LESS.
It makes sense that they get the core with the expansion as it should boost player numbers into the game. However they did it all wrong.
I would have: $15 Core $30 Expansion. Buy together get it for $40.
Existing should have definitely got a free character slot.
For me to be honest they haven’t sold me on it. Sorry but if they think what they have drip fed out is honestly the best marketing for their expansion they must be misguided. Maybe I’m “different” but I play the game to do stuff, I don’t care about exploring and looking at scenery if I wanted to do that I’d go hiking to look at stuff 1000x better than what I would see on my screen. I don’t care about guild halls, I don’t care about gliding (seriously??? Lol), the new pvp map looks cool. Wvw? Loooool don’t get me started on that, I have to pay or grind my soul away to pay for a server transfer to get onto a better server as everyone left mine (so there is another £20 to me if I wanted to play wvw). Class specs are cool but £35? No not that cool.
So far I’ve seen little of actual stuff to do… Dungeons? Maybe some new crazy open world events always running? I’m not raging, I don’t really care… It’s a game but it could have been marketed better at this stage. But to virtually give nothing to existing players is just ridiculous, it’s kind of like they want to boost new player numbers and oops’d on the existing resulting in a kitten result.
I dunno… Maybe they will release more that sells itself than what they’ve chucked out on the table.
@Ragnar, I would even be happy with a $10 break in price (last core sale price), and a free character slot for previous owners.
..Looks like Anet does not reward loyalty.
Another fail by anet, but this time in the marketing department instead of design/content…oh well so many new free games, B2p games and other things to do with my time…wont be getting the expanse till the price drops. So during a sale price in a year from now lol
There are some things to be considered here. Anet could be trolling, hard. 1 class, 3 maps, yada. I have heard this argument but there could be far more than we realize that will be released. That said, if there isn’t and all they have advertised truly is the meat of the expansion I am extremely disappointed in where Anet has gone from the days of gw1. I paid for guild wars 2. Having to pay an equal amount of money, I expect the same amount of content. There are arguments concerning quality vs quantity which is understandable. But in my eyes it is a time to cost ratio. Amazing voice overs and quests that only take me a night to complete with my friends is not worth $50. Do I want swaths of crap content that lasts a month? no. There needs to be a balance between quality and quantity which is released at a reasonable price point.
That aside, expecting loyal players who have already paid for the original release to pay an equal amount again while new players get the original content for free is unfair. You want to money grub fine, then make new layers have to pay 110 dollars for the standard version and see how far you get. 60 for the original and 50 for your expansion. I would be comfortable paying 35 dollars for the expansion. There are a couple things here, either you release smaller expansions at a lower price point or larger expansions at a higher price point. The information released so far does not suit the larger expansion at a higher price point. I am not aiming to undervalue the time and effort that the staff puts into the game but I for one will not buy heart of thorns while new players get the original game for free. If you were looking for a way to alienate your loyal players since beta, since prophecies, since factions, you’ve found it Anet. I really hope this is all a rouse and you have massive surprises planned worthy of kitten price tag. Yes the changes you are making are significant but relative to the content in the rest of the game I am left underwhelmed.
Edit: The auto mods are horrid. It changed $50 to kitten. yet not when I stated it above. Why is the price considered censor worthy? Anet please just tell us the scope of the expansion. Not all the hype details but we need to know, are we buying a kiddy pool or an Olympic pool for 50 bucks. Then you can hype us about the toys in the pool.
