2-4 months ago, I dropped around 200g that I attained by 100% grinding fractals and dungeons hardcore because it was the fastest way to do it, and put it into crafting rares and exotics to attempt to get a dusk or dawn precursor out of the mystic forge.

Well I never got a dusk or a dawn out of mystic forge so that gold/time was 100% wasted completely. A complete waste of time and it was not fun doing it.

Now I come back to the game and hey , look, craft your way to ascended weapons! Oh… sorry I already wasted all of my time/gold in playing your gambling system and lost, so now I’m supposed to keep grinding and playing your new crafting system? We should have been able to craft our precursors from Day 1 ANET. Is this supposed to be fair? Who asked for ascended weapons … ??? I feel like the people who are in my position are not being heard by ANET even though we have said this COUNTLESS TIMES!!!!!!

What do the people and myself who are in this position do? More grind, less risk involved now, oh thanks for adding that now that I’ve burned all my gold and my time already.

Don’t know if I can do it again, don’t know if anyone should do it again. I enjoyed it the first time because I actually thought 200g would have been enough to gain me a dusk out of the mystic toilet. I was wrong, so I quit. Simple as that, uninstalled and gave up on the game because if I can’t go end-game then there’s no point in playing the game, that’s just the way I play the game.

So I came back and it’s just a straight up 100% ridiculous grind to this ascended weapon that looks like absolute crap, no cool effects or anything, but at least its not a 100% gambling slot machine eh ? ?

So if you were in my position, would you keep playing the game or would you just give up? I honestly don’t think I can keep playing this at this point. I gave it my best shot and apparently my best shot vs a slot machine wasn’t good enough. All this update did was make what I did previously an even bigger mistake (trying to get dusk) than it already was. Now, it was a complete and total fail, and that was just the precursor to the legendary itself…. lol..

So ANET, what am I supposed to do? Your own design and update dictates that I should stop playing the game because its pointless for me to continue.

Do you WANT me to continue playing or what ? I’m getting the feeling that you’re literally trying to stop people from playing the game lol. I can’t be the only one who is in this same situation. I’m sure a lot of people who are in my position already quit the game, so I’m just asking ANET if this is what they wanted because their own game system caused this. The fact that you added in crafting a terrible looking ascended weapon, but still make it so people are unable to craft a precursor, is quite frankly insanity and bad game design.

You’re going to let us craft ascended weapons by some intensive insane grind but we aren’t allowed to craft precursors for legendary weapons still… ? ?

This is unfair. I’ve been waiting for this update for ages and we still cannot craft precursor. This must be some kind of silly lame joke. Craft an ascended sword but not a precursor? Yeah, I’m done with your mystic toilet Anet.

I honestly can’t bring myself to play this game again until we are allowed to craft our precursor. There is no point in my view, all I want is twilight for the looks, and it seems the mystic toilet gods do not shine on my account.

I can see where your coming from. The part they really messed up is the crafting only and some super low drop rate if you farm champs and world bosses. BUT you need to build up your MF since it’s all reset now. I have no clue what they are thinking or not thinking but i would say stick it out for the next few weeks. See if the non stop forum posting about how 90% of us hate it changes their minds. If Anet sticks to there guns then well quit because i will be lol

I’m sure if it wasn’t crafting-only the drop rate would be so low that you, me, my grand kids and their grand kids would have never found one anyway my friend.

I don’t hate these changes, there are definitely better approaches they could take though. I just hate the fact that their game design and this new update literally makes me not want to play the game anymore.

I played the game the way it was meant to be played, and it literally forced me into quitting because I just couldn’t take gambling my time away anymore.

Then they do this update and it makes wasting all that gold on crafting for the mystic forge for dusk an even bigger massive mistake than it was at the time. I really thought I was gonna get dusk… lol what a joke.

Anet should be ashamed of themselves. After saying the game wouldn’t be a grind… please. That statement was a lie before this ascended gear even made it into the game. It was always a grind when trying to get a legendary, and that’s only if you could even pass the gambling check first.

Since when is playing a slot machine supposed to be a challenge ANET ??

They should give me my gold back but I know that will never happen.

This is the problem with building your game around loot rather than good atmosphere and fun gameplay.

It’s true, I mean if there was no precursor gambling system I wouldn’t have quit in the first place.

The only thing I’d disagree with the OP on is his uniqueness in his experience. The game is crazy for those who have stuck with it and are just trying to follow the path of the power curve. I actually reminisce fondly of the short/steep grind in WoW. I could grind for 2 months and be done with the grind for the entire rest of the tier. I could RELAX and just play the game like I wanted to with no sword over my head. The sword never leaves its position over my head in GW2. The gear grind is never over like it is periodically in WoW. The slow grind is a cruel, relentless grind.

My point of view is completely different than the OP’s. I saved up enough mats to craft Rare and Exotic GS to try for Dawn or Dusk. Maybe threw in 300+ Gold’s worth. Got none. Did I quit? No, because I only put in what I could afford to.

Sorry you felt the need to quit because things didn’t turn out your way. The good news here is that your account will always remain, so you can rejoin the game anytime you choose!

So that time spent playing and is wasted means nothing to you?

WE’re clearly different players. If I put that much time into the game I want to be rewarded with something, not my gold vanishing for no reason.

it is a terrible system. Mystic forge precursor should be removed from the game and it should be crafted or found only. I play a game to have fun, when 200g is simply gone with no reward in turn, that’s not fun, that’s called me quitting a ridiculously bad game.

Your mistake (in as much as you can be blamed, and I’m not sure you can be) was that you forced yourself to do something you didn’t enjoy. There are a couple of legendaries I wouldn’t mind having, but the problem is that I know that I would not enjoy the horrible, tedious grind in order to get there. I’m not patient or clever enough to work the TP, so that’s out too. But I recognize that fact. I know that grinding makes me miserable and I refuse to do it. Yes, I miss out on the shiniest of the shinies. Yes, that does kind of suck. But you know what? I play the game to have fun. I’ve been burned enough times by grinding to not want to do it anymore, even for fancy trinkets (ugh, Southsun Sclerite weapons…).

To be clear I don’t think that I’m better than you or anything stupid like that. I’m not trying to be condescending. It’s Anet’s fault for rewarding something that isn’t fun. If they want players to enjoy something, they should reward them for doing something enjoyable. Rewards-oriented people (of which there are many) get burned out doing stupid things too.

Anyway, it sucks, but them’s the breaks.

I don’t believe it.

Why add ascended crafting before precursor crafting? Makes no sense, ascended item will obviously be harder to craft. Plus they have lied before, at this point I’ll only believe an official announcement on their webpage about it.

Well at least an Ascended Weapon is actually obtainable over time unlike a Legendary that is 100% luck based. But all this doesn’t matter gave up a long while ago, there is good RNG accounts and bad RNG accounts, sadly for me I am cursed with a bad RNG account so this whole part of the game is a complete waste of time for me.

Well, I am not sure what to tell you to be honest. You should at least feel some comfort that it is on their radar, as it was not a answer to a question about that issue specifically he brought that up voluntarily.

I definitely feel better. I may even reinstall the game now.

But I’d feel a hell of a lot better if they said something about it directly in an announcement on their web page. Plans may have changed for it to be ascended weapon only or something, you never know…

Could be that they simply have not decided just how they are going to do precursor weapons. They think they may do it via crafting but its not decided yet.

I hear ya, that is the part of mmorpg’s that are both exciting and frustrating. You never really know what changes are going to happen. Sometimes they make sense to us as a player and sometimes they don’t because we can’t see all the variables the developers do. So it is clear I am not “white knighting” Anet, ascended gear pretty much has me fuming because the interpretation I had of the product being sold is not the one I now have in front of me. Hopefully they can see their way clear of time gating and rng for BiS gear and keep progression purely horizontal as future development occurs or at the very least don’t allow it to get worse than it is at the moment. If they can think of some compelling ways to offer character progression (let’s face it who doesn’t like to feel a sense of progress) without simply further increasing numbers I know I will personally be all the happier for it.

The worst part for me if the fact they basically scrapped any ways of earning karma, but oh wait you still need upwards of 1mill karma to get your obby shards for your legendary… I mean what am I going to do now?! Dear OP,

I hate my job. I work for a certain brown colored delivery company. My multiple bosses treat me like crap. My customers treat me like crap. Day in, and day out it feels like a grind, but they pay is pretty darn good.
One day I took all my hard earned money to the casino. Although I knew the odds of winning the jackpot were very low, I lost every penny I had.

Should the casino just hand me the jackpot because I worked so hard for it?

This is a game, games are designed to be fun. I don’t think I need to say more than that. The highest-end-game weapon shouldn’t require a lottery ticket to get it started. It should be made with hard work that’s it, sadly it doesn’t matter how much hard work you put into it until the RNG god smiles on you. You know this already so please don’t compare real life to a video game, it has no relevance at all, especially when they start changing the formula saying “oh wait, now you can craft it!” after people have already wasted their hard earned gold in the mystic toilet and got nothing for it.

Maybe it’s just my own personal experience but I keep getting so much karma I don’t even know how to get rid of it. I think a lot of players have over a million karma just sitting there. ArenaNet created karma dumps so that people with too much karma would have something to spend it on. Maybe there are people out there with very little karma for some reason but these karma dumps weren’t meant for them.

Moreover, you shouldn’t have to farm for karma because it should all just come naturally as you play the game. I got my gift of mastery using 250 obsidian shards, bought about 200 more, and still have plenty of karma to spare. I don’t recall trying to farm karma even once. For that matter, I don’t even farm. I just do whatever is available at the moment, be it the Queen’s Gauntlet or Scarlet’s Invasions for achievements.

This is a game, games are designed to be fun.

Firstly your premise is wrong. Games are intended to provide entertainment, fun is a form of entertainment yes, but if fun was the only form of entertainment then we wouldn’t have any puzzle games, or horror games, or god games etc. All entertainment works like this, it’s why we have horror novels or 50 shades of grey, each invoking a different emotional response for the purpose of entertainment, not for fun.

Secondly assuming we forget the issue with your premise, why can’t gambling be fun?

If I were to make a change of how we get precursors, I’d increase the probability of getting it with every try in mystic forge. This way, let’s say, after 50-100 tries it would be 25%+ guaranteed.
