Anet...slow down gemstore introduction
With these rising gem prices many people are getting upset with them. I personally am not because I am never interested in these purchases. It bugs me that arena net focuses on outfits and gliders than actual in game(not gemstore) armors and weapons. I like some of the outfits, but I want to be able to use some parts of these outfits…not the whole thing. I think many other people would agree with me that anet should focus more on the players ability to make their own look instead of following an outfit that requires you to spend mass amounts of money to get.
Anet needs to make money to fund this game properly.
We can’t keep catering to the free players who do not want to invest in their own game, they get enough free as is.

FYI: gem store team and team for things released in game are different.
Gem prices are more affected currently due to WvW transfers to linked servers being financed by guilds giving gold to new members or allied guilds.
I doubt Anet would be doing it if they weren’t profiting from it. Are you asking them to stop making money?
I’m not sure how familiar you are with MMOs, OP, but they’re different from other games. They take a lot of money to run. That money has to come from somewhere.
Games like WoW and FFXIV have subscriptions that keep them afloat. If you have a million people giving you $15 a month, that’s $15 million dollars a month. Games like SWToR have “optional” subscriptions that don’t really let you do anything unless you subscribe. You can play through the story and that’s about it. Same with most games that have optional subs.
Then there are pay to win games that require you to pay to do well or advance.
Anet is none of these. It’s a buy to play game that supports it’s staff of 300 plus employees with sales from the gem store.
Anet isn’t going to stop making gem store items any more than the company you work for is going to cease to try to make a profit and pay their employees.
Would you prefer a required monthly subscription instead where if you don’t pay you can’t log on?
ANet may give it to you.

They do that with the gliders, back items, toys, and mining tools. along with the outfits and other things. I just want to be able to use different sections of outfits that I pay for. Keep the gem store stuff, but dont just lock the outfits where you are stuck with an amazing hood or chest piece and really bad looking boots and pants where you start to dislike the outfit to the point that you stop using it.

Except GW1 was not an MMO, it was a CORPG (and in fact, GW1 also had an in-game store, though it was less expansive).

if you didn’t read what I said, I just wish that outfits could have the six different parts that you can pick and choose from after you PURCHASE them from the store.
How does it change the business model?
Quite a lot actually. The fact that GW1 was instanced means it is a lot less expensive to host. That, combined with having a lot less players and being a lot less graphically advanced and less complex gameplay-wise (for example due to less active combat and a z-axis that was largely non-functional) and various other things means GW1 could be supported through a much smaller staff.

you were quoting a later post that I said and not the original post. Yes i understand that they rely on the gemstore for funding, but they are putting more effort into these outfits than different armor pieces in game that people will use more. Which is why I made this post.
IMO I feel that people will get the outfits because they like the look of them, but they don’t get the feeling of customizability which is why they eventually go back to their original armor look. This is why I think that they shoud at least make outfits a six part look that you can swap out with other armors.

Someone has never played GW1.
Guild Wars 1 had a shop, although it was real money only. They sold outfits (costumes), skill, pet and PvP gear unlocks without playing the game first (kind of pay to win) and NPCs that you buy to play alongside you (also kind of pay to win).
ANet may give it to you.
Personally I don´t pay too much attention to the gemstore items. Mostly because those items have less value to me than something that I worked for myself.
Though, it’s coming to a point where I’m thinking that there’s way more “interesting” weapon skins in the Black Lion vault than there are actually obtainable through interesting gameplay. And maybe even more interesting looking outfits than there is armor.
Making money or not, I don’t particularly care, but I personally didn’t buy Guild Wars 2 in order to play dress up and throw money at that.
Ingame Name: Guardian Erik
Outfits can’t be made that way. They cited technical issues when they first designed them. Outfits are one pieces and one pieces only. The only way round that is to make them armour pieces and armour pieces are exclusively now developed for in game.

Complaints in post
1. With these rising gem prices many people are getting upset with them.
2. It bugs me that arena net focuses on outfits and gliders than actual in game(not gemstore) armors and weapons.

You want less items in the gemstone, you want gold to gem exchange rates lower, you want more unique items in the game, you want more armors and less outfits…
You basically want Anet to give you more free stuff in game and to sacrifice making more money.

Sorta like what SWTOR did with their “sub” where you get a amount of “gems” equal to sub price? —just a question

Well, I’m not sure because I haven’t really put much thought into it.
GW2 China has a VIP membership but not sure what that entails.
Personally, I wouldn’t want to disrupt the economy much, so I’m sure there are lots of other perks that could be given. Access to special vendors, 25% more exp and reward track exp gain, free WP use, improved log in rewards… I don’t know.
That would be a good topic to bring up.

So I will try my best to clarify to you what I want. I would like Anet to keep the gemstore items, but change how outfits would work.
The reason I said “stop pumping items into the gemstore” is because Anet is too focused on the outfits which have great aesthetics that people may want instead of having to use the whole outfit.
With people buying items from the gem store it will bump up the prices for gems. Mabey I should have lebeled the title as SLOW DOWN THE INTRODUCTION OF GEMSTORE ITEMS. To your eyes you see me saying “Anet plz stop making money”, but mabey they should focus on quality items over quantity which could end up making people more content with what they buy.
Back to the outfits which is what i mainly want to talk about. The outfits are quality and should be split into the six different armor pieces once you BUY them from the Gem Store.
Another thing to realize is that a topic does not mean that you have to directly follow what it says, you can stray off from the topic.
Grrrrr. Forum ate my post. >.> (re-types)
They have already said that armor is the most expensive thing they make. Turning outfits into armor, even if it’s one for all weights, means increased cost to them. They’ll either have to make less profit or charge more for each outfit.
And if they do, are they going back to all the old outfits and redoing them? Will it be free? Will they charge everyone who has an old outfit that’s now an armor or will you be required to buy the “remade into armor” outfits even if you have the one piece outfit? Will there be two systems, old one piece outfits and new armor outfits? Either way they will have to remake the UI, more cost to them.
It’s rather like the qwerty keyboard. Once a system is in place and people are invested in it, it’s a significant cost to change. Just look at town cloths. Scrapped, and the townclothes made into tonics even if you bought them once outfits were introduced. Would you be happy if they scrapped the old outfits and turned them into tonics to set up a armor outfit system?
ANet may give it to you.
Would you prefer a required monthly subscription instead where if you don’t pay you can’t log on?
Yes.
If they split up the outfits in 6 parts , in order to choose your favorite part more easily , then they will have to waste an additional time , so each part doesnt creates a visual bug/mess/cling/clip/whatever is called , with existing ingame Armors .
So either you will have 1 shoulder or 1 head skin with each update or a whole Outfit (which it should have some flaws , so there wont be the the ‘’perfect-no-need-for-morel-outfits’’)

They actually have slowed down the rate at which they make new gem store items.
The vast majority of items that have appeared in the gem store over the last few months are returning items that were available before, meaning they took absolutely no developer effort to make.
The only new ones since the start of February have been:
- Wings of Love
- Golden Wings (re-colour of an existing item)
- Electromagnetic Glider
- Crystal Savant Outfit
- Classical Glider
- Ironclad Pack
- Bubble Glider
- Super Glider
- Gwen’s Outfit
- Chaos Gloves
- Macaw Wings (re-colour)
- Blue Shift Dye Kit
- Cosmic Mining Tool
- Sloth Backpack
- Moth Wings
That’s approximately 1 item per week, all of which use existing mechanics (even the ones which aren’t re-colours aren’t completely new types of items), meaning each was probably made by a single artist or a very small team.

That, combined with having a lot less players and being a lot less graphically advanced and less complex gameplay-wise (for example due to less active combat and a z-axis that was largely non-functional) and various other things means GW1 could be supported through a much smaller staff.
It also had very few free content updates. There were a few, like when Sorrow’s Furnace was added and the GW: Beyond content when they started working on GW2, but the vast majority of new stuff was added through new campaigns and the expansion which had to be paid for with real money, which covered the cost of developing them.
However I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they dropped that model after just 2 new campaigns and started working on a new game with a different plan for releasing new content. It might have worked in the short term but I suspect they realised they couldn’t keep releasing new content quickly enough to keep the game and the company running. (Plus new options had appeared by then, microtransactions and DLC were virtually unheard of when GW1 came out – there were rare examples, although not under that name, but nothing like we get now.)

In other words, you want them to make gemstore armor, which Anet’s explicitly stated will only be done “ingame,” not the gemstore.
I think the main issue is, not everyone knows the ins and outs of MMO workings. So what they are seeing is tons of Gem Store stuff coming out, and no actual game content being released. Which is quite frustrating to a lot of players who are bored and wanting new content, yet all they see is more “cash grabs”.
They are tired of getting nothing but cash shop items and gamble weapon skins, and want actual in game content they can play. They want to earn stuff in game, not whip out their credit card every time new stuff comes out.
I get Anet has to make money via the Gem Store to support GW2, but GW2 won’t be around much longer if the only new stuff we get is via the Gem Store. Then there will be nothing to play the game for.

Sorry, OP, I cannot get behind your petition. Essentially, you’re asking Anet to make less money so you don’t have to spend as much time farming gold to get what you want without having to spend any money.
Hopefully once the gem store has a lot of selection, the gem store prices can be lowered.
I barely make gem store purchases as the prices are too high, and the selection is too weak.
Boy, that sounds like the death-knell of any retail establishment. XD

Prices have been the same since game launch, 80 gems for $1€ and except for very rare cases, item gem costs have been unchanged since launch except for sales.

Exactly this.
I only purchase gem with cash, and the price is fixed since launch.
My only complaint is that I do not like the Gem Store Interface. It feels clunky to navigate. I’m also not a fan of artificial rarity, if you make something, keep it in there. :P Or, decide on certain items that you will never remove and share the list with the community so that we know what we might have to rush for and what we can take our time getting.
Maybe not the greatest business sense, just something I’d like.
Artificial rarity improves sales so get use to it. It forces people to make a decision rather than putting it off for another day.

This.
It pains me to admit this, but HoT was a flop as an expansion.
I know, I know – groundwork. Getting ready for what’s next. It doesn’t change that there’s no content to the content.
That leaves us exactly where we were before HoT dropped. There’s nothing new to do, and nothing to work toward that isn’t simply “Open wallet, purchase gems, fund Anet via gemstore”.
Don’t get me wrong, I fork out regularly for gems when I think they’ve done a good job. There should, however, be content.
My suggestion would be reforming the dungeon team and introducing more dungeons, and plunking the GW1 15k skins as the rewards for them.
Repeatable content with a reward you can get at the end.
(Think the bonus mission pack in gw1)
