Dear anet balance devs,

I understand that balance is hard, but use your best tool more. Ask your players for the balance, what they think what the problem is in the game. Make a post for every class where players can leave their feedback for the classes. And make one every quarter.

I hope you guys will use my advice.

Player input might be useful, but it’s not the “best” tool. A-net would have to sift through numerous pages of feedback, some may be relevant/useful while others may be extremely biased.

Overall communication with players on what changes are happening and why would be the best interaction for players imo.

Player input is the worst tool. Everyone thinks their class is the worst and every other class is OP.

A humble perspective would take into consideration your flaws and shortcomings when evaluating the advantages.

A narcissistic perspective don’t even think there are flaws and is the best (not even just one of the best) choice.

Player input has many flaws and shortcomings. The devs do listen to player input and suggestions (some even think an entire elite spec’s origin was from a forum suggestion) but it’s not necessary to make a quarterly thread for each profession because players constantly make threads criticizing and suggesting stuff for the game. If you need validation that your ideas were specially considered, I’m just going to say you’re asking for too much.

[EDIT]Also, just to anyone reading this thread, are forum specialists still a thing? I felt they were a crap idea for free labor rather than any of the goals put forth when creating them.

Most important re-balance is armor designs. Replace the designers please with people who aren’t anti-diversity.

Please Remove/Fix Thief Trait: “Last Refuge.”
“Hard to Catch” is a Horrible and Useless Trait. Fixed 6/23/15. Praise Dwayna.

Then entire necromancer forum is laughing at this. Same for rev’s.

Anti-diversity? I please hope this is in regard to armor, and not something political.

I think it’s just that people are so used to democracy.

It’s about the blatant overuse of Butt-capes and Trenchcoats. Literally every non starter Armor/outfit released Falls into those two categories.

Considering the entire post was about armour design I think any political interpretation is your own.

A common complaint about armour designs in GW2 is that the overall ‘theme’ is always the same for each armour weight:

  • Heavy is plate, chain or scale mail over a tunic (aka ‘butt cape’)
  • Medium is a trench coat trousers and boots
  • Light is a long tunic (aka ‘butt cape’/dress) over trousers or leggings.
  • Males are fully covered from neck to wrists and feet, females have random patches missing.

Which limits players choices. If you want a light armoured character in plain trousers you’ve got one, maybe 2 choices. If you’ve got a medium armoured character you’ll have a hard time finding anything else, but you’re also going to have a hard time seeing it under the coat.

Player input on balance issues should always be taken with a grain of salt, if at all.

First rule of balancing, don’t listen to the entire community.
Never.

If you are talking about pro player i agree, but the whole community will say different things. If devs were listening to the community every single time we see “OMG IS BROKEN” ( and i am talking about class balance only ) there will be less balance than now.

The best tool for balance is game-wide stats on how different classes and specs perform over different game modes. And I hope that Anet is collecting those. Player feedback is mostly useful in terms of quality of life improvements and bug fixing, hardly though for balancing. My rule of thumb is: if everyone complains, the game is probably balanced

Yeah, it’s a good way to get a general idea of what some percentage of the people posting on the forums think is going on. Not quite the same thing.

They have statistics from matches, raids and so on that shows what’s actually going on.

Then they should use their statistics to balance instead of rolling a dice for every adjustment.
