After the patch I found Mini Eir Stegalkin very terrifying
almost scared my kitten off

Eir’s movement was a little bit stiffly, but at least she looked like a normal person

What the heck is this???
-Poor graphic quality, the tattoos on her arm and thigh are blur
-Skin is shinning disgustingly, like the whole body is made of plastic
-Eyes never roll now, looks extremely scary
I don’t mind she stares at me sharply, fiercely, but it is definitely not that case
If I have to find something to describe, it’s the baby dolls in horror movies that keeps gazing at you and can move their heads 180 degrees
-Skin is dull, dark as she is covered with tar
Before the patch, she is so fair even in non-snow terrains

Doesn’t Eir have snowy skin??
Why did she tan after the patch??
Have she been to the Summer Islands??
This miniature was completely distorted
As an admirer of Eir I think this is unacceptable
Simply an insult to her!!!
What’s the purpose modifying the miniature??
I hereby represent all players who loves Eir Stegalkin to request Anet to restore her former appearance ASAP

Despite i didn t read it anywhere i think they changed mini settings.

For example i like moas, and they nearly doubled in size since patch.

My mini doliak calf is bigger than an asura…

My seraph mage is still tiny (one of few exceptions).

In preview screen they are even bigger.
I hope they preserve new moas size anyway :| (they could use some more AA like many new sized minis btw).

But maybe that changed how textures or lod works with minis.

Looks like it got changed from a scaled down full-texture full-polygon Eir mesh to a separate low-poly low-texture full-size mesh. If you consider the performance cost of rendering another fully textured player constantly among other minis, that makes sense and I won’t be surprised if other minis got similar treatment before the “permanent minis” patch. Not saying that I approve of such drastic measures, though.

Since you can’t use minis in explorable areas anymore, they probably don’t care what she looks like now.

I’m guessing it’s sarcasm due to culling issue (Minis are hidden when too many players are in zone).

@Brother Grimm: I get your point of view, and do agree that server functionality shouldn’t suffer due to minis, especially when it’s only a select group that really enjoys using them. GW1’s system was, in my opinion, better because if I got in a district with the max number of them out, I could always switch to another district if it was really that important for me to have a mini out and about.

My complaint here, I guess, is that I’ll be in a map asking me to leave because of low population but I still can’t bring the durn thing out. Which if culling was working properly, shouldn’t be an issue I would assume. Especially when this whole mini wardrobe change was supposed to be QoL. It seems to have shafted the people who actually used their minis to begin with. I guess my second part of it is that I’ve spent real money to gems for certain minis and before the patch there were no issues, now I can’t seem to use them whenever I want.

You can see from my post history, I don’t usually post on the forums, and usually I just roll with whatever changes come about (ignorance is bliss, after all!), but this change is just really frustrating to me. And I assume others, but I’m only speaking for myself.

p.s.: yes, that was sarcasm in my reply. I meant it somewhat lightheartedly tho.

I think for how minis have been pushed forward as content it’s important to address this huge graphic downgrade.

The new pictures look like Dennis Rodman with a wig.

See if it returns to normal if you put Character Model Quality at a higher rating

The Mini Lord Faren (non-southsun) has also received a…. change…

Faren is my favorite NPC, but wow the mini Faren is ultra tan with glaring, frightening eyes.

I even compared my Southsun Faren to the Mini Lord Faren and there definitely is a drastic change.

They anticipate that there are going to be more minis displayed, so they probably turned the graphics level down to avoid impacting performance.

I noticed a few other minis that got weird like a mosquito that looks like it got folded to the side and a whispers mini that is extremely low res. I also noticed weird bumps and shapes. Other minis seem to look fine though.

I suspect that, by this time, their code is so convoluted that they simply can’t anymore change one thing and not break other things.

It’s the only explanation I can come up with that doesn’t involve taking shots at their (lack of) QA.

I have never seen any South African of that colour (black, white or coloured), please refrain from being so insulting.
