Anet why... The Journey to lvl 80
I can’t comment with any real authority on gold sellers/buyers, but it seems to me that a game like GW2 (large budget, existing fanbase, hype) is going to be a huge target for botting and gold selling. Where the players go, so do these hangers-on. So ArenaNet are probably dealing with a large and ever-shifting problem, as opposed to a smaller, less well-known MMO which will be less of a target (but good for those games who can stamp out gold buying if they can do it!)
And modern video games being dumbed down? Does not just relate to GW2. Does not just relate to MMOs. And has been said for years by many, many people. It’s a clear industry trend. GW2 may be part of it, but I don’t think you can lay videos like this at ArenaNet’s doorstep as if it’s secretly all directed at them.
If you’re playing GW2 like another WoW clone (okay, Ultima clone) and just grind your way to 80 and then grind for shinier gear and golds… You’re doing it wrong.
It’s entirely ANet’s fault for failing to communicate this properly through game mechanics, because they’ve always made it very clear in their blog posts and interviews. That’s definitely a problem. But.
The objective of Guild Wars 2 is to play the game (preferably with friends or other people) for the fun of it.
Yet a free MMO like "Runes Of Magic " that costs NOTHING to play…
And it shows – pay to win, bugs years old, gold sellers for years, a total grindfest, an insecure trade system where people are ripped off and nothing is done, terrible support, etc, about the only thing that is any good is guild v guild PvP (if we ignore the pay to win aspect and the fact it is rampant with hackers, because it has bascially never got out of alpha).
Comparing older games to newer ones: I played the first Final Fantasy and it was hard! Mana management was the name of the game and you had to figure out where to go, and some mobs had attacks that could wipe out your entire team, and could come in packs. Phantasy Star IV was also hard and had a pretty cool story with anime cutscenes. Star Ocean: The Second Story, Breath of Fire series, I remember. Kid Chameleon, Alex the Kidd, and Ghouls and Ghost were also really hard.

One time I was doing boring manual labor in some aging government research facility, when suddenly it all exploded into flames and aliens started pouring in! It’s times like this that put your loot in context: try swatting at a brain-sucking parasite with your bare hands or dodge giant lasers at the start of it, and a simple crowbar will seem like Legendary Sword of Fire and Flames.
See? Pacing. Alien brain-sucking parasites.
Conclusions? Please implement alien brain-sucking parasites, ANet.
What about Battletoads? I cleared that game multiple times, I’m a pro gamer

Thats nothing. I did that on “Battle toads Vs Double Dragon”. (not kidding, it is a real game.)
Times change and so does each generation of MMO gamers.
The needs and wants of this generation is altogether different from the Early UO days when I first started playing MMO’s.
This generation thinks that it is acceptable to use cheat codes and god modes because the games they played allowed them those luxuries. It is little wonder to me that there are gamers who don’t have the time to farm or level and prefer to take the easy route and buy it elsewhere from some sweatshop in china or where ever.
