Anet won't unlock LS episodes?
Well, I’ve got Part 2 and Part 3 unlocked so I’m missing the first. And to make things clear, I never logged on during the time Part 1 was up. And all I did was log in and stare at the screen for a second. I didn’t even move one step.
So finishing one part is not required to unlock the episodes in the journal.
So I would reply back to them and get the specifics on what unlocks episodes in the journal. If you met those requirements for Part 2, say that to support, they should be able to check their records, and ask for the gems it would require you to unlock the episode (if it’s like Episode 1, it’s 200 gems) if their records show that you met the requirements.
They should be able to just generate gems out of thin air for you.
I want to ask one question that bothers me. I unlocked part 1 of the current LS (Gates of Maguuma) on its release day and went on vacation right after it. The day before part 2 ended (Entanglement) I came back and I immediately finished part 1 story (on Tuesday…10 hours prior to The Dragon’s Reach) so I still can freely unlock also part 2.
.
I would guess that when server reset occurs (0:00 GMT, or 7:00 PM EDT) the computers at Anet switch over to the next day. Because you waited until the day that the next chapter went live, it was too late to unlock chapter 2. In other words, you could unlock chapter 2 on Monday, but once it became Tuesday it was too late. Computers are frustratingly exact and if programmed so that “this chapter locks after 7/28/14” then at 12:00:01 on 7/29/14 it’s locked. At this point there probably isn’t anything CS can do about it, the system is too new.
Next time, don’t wait until the last minute.
(Yes, I know it says “until the next episode goes live.” The programmers don’t write the marketing stuff, and the marketing guys don’t write the code.)

Exactly^. Just like Monthlies roll over at midnight UTC the first day of the month, the Episodes roll over at 00:00 UTC the day of the patch. Unfortunately, it takes some time for the CS Team to learn all the intricacies of content implementation.
Lesson learned…keep reset time in mind in the future.
Good luck.
Kinda odd, when thinking about all the talk that said “we can play them any time we want to, unlike season 1”.
In a way it’s still quite same as season 1 living story was, do it on time or it’ll be over and you cannot get it.
Propably gonna release as separate extras for additional £/$/€?
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

What? You can play it anytime, at no cost, as long as you unlock it during the active ‘free unlock’ time period. If you fail to unlock it during the Release’s active time, you can then purchase the Episode for 200 Gems.
Thus, there isn’t a time you can ‘never get it’.

And all you have to do is log in during those 2 weeks ONCE to unlock it.
I unlocked Episode 2 that way. Logged in then logged pretty much right back out during the two weeks it was open. I have it unlocked.
So it’s not like it’s asking you to log in and complete the story or even do any of the story. Just simply log in.
Season 1 was a very straight forward ’do it during these 2 (or 4) weeks or you can never do it at all.
Season 2 is much more flexible. You can unlock it, for all characters on you account (including ones you haven’t created yet), by logging in to one character once during the 2 week window or by buying it for 200 gems. After that you can play it as many times as you like at time. During those 2 weeks, or the next 2 weeks or 6 months later or in a year…any time.
But you do have to unlock it first. I thought that was made quite clear in the various announcements.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Did you go into the Personal Story section of your hero screen and see if it is there to be manually activated? Your initial post suggest that you did, but as you did not say it specifically I thought it might be worth checking.

Except perhaps in my flat mates case where he hasn’t played all of the episodes but has them all unlocked because he logged in three times (once during each two week period) and can play them whenever he wants.
Logging in for a minute once every two weeks =/= being forced to play on their schedule like S1 did.

Just to be clear, you have to log in and click the icon above your minimap. Just logging in doesn’t unlock the episodes.
Some people logged in, didn’t click the icon and logged out then wondered why their stories didn’t unlock.

Fair point, I probably should stop assuming the obvious is obvious to everyone.
The LS is delivery through the tp so be sure your isn’t full.

Sort of Anet’s fault, they repeated over and over again all you have to do is log in and people took it literally.
Except one of the Devs expressly commented on that fact, and said you did not have to click the green star. The ‘unlocked’ episodes will queue up for you, waiting for you to click the star. The only problem with this, is the queues in GW2 don’t stack very far. I would be hesitant to queue up more than 4.

Also gems do not necessarily have to cost £/$/€. You can convert in-game gold too.
(Before people start the “OMG ArenaNet are just money grabbers” conspiracy theories again)

Yes, you are right, but that does not justify Support’s kittenty service. ANET support should not even exist, well ok it should exist but they should start by actually being able to respond differently than “cant help”.
Check the players logs and give him the necessary gems to unlock the kittenin episode if he is entitled to it and they cant manually unlock it. Done, everyone would be happy, but that would imply support actually having to do work/ticket and lowering their daily quota and looking worse than the other guy that just says no to everything all day…

Support has helped me plenty of times. And your assumption that he is entitled to the episode and support is kittening him over may be incorrect.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
CS agents do not have the authority to do anything they want. They have bosses and rules to follow, just like every other worker. They are allowed to do some things, not allowed to do other things, and still other situations are judged on a case-by-case basis.
Also, they are human beings, and sometimes make mistakes or get confused. A lot of problems that people have with CS is that they don’t explain the situation properly when creating a ticket, then get upset when they receive a confusing or incorrect answer. That is why there is a Tickets for Review thread in Account Issues:
You can post there when appropriate to ask Gaile to review the ticket.
Also, keep in mind that simply giving out gems is not an answer. If they start doing this it can easily be abused by people who have no intention of buying the LS episode and just want free gems. So don’t expect this kind of result.
