Q:

We can’t deny how some mesmers especially Countess Anise are powerful.

I do wonder if their power are unique or just the representation of the mesmers at uber high levels (that we might get with lvl cap increase in long future).

What do you guys think?

You mean like how Logan can create “Sanctuary” that last forever?

I don’t think we’ll ever get those ability. Seemed OPed.

She has the Plot Sensitivity ability, her powers match whatever is needed for the plot of the current story. Most NPCs have this ability, players do not, though they may occasionally pick up the Plot Weakness debuff.

Yeah I get that they’re made this way for storyline, but what I’m asking if in long distance if we get some major increase in level cap, would we get as powerful as they currently are?
OFC monsters would be more powerful aswell

“Level 100 Mesmer Powers” have to balanced against “Level 100 Elementalist Powers” etc. while “Whatever the Plot Requires Powers” are not balanced against anything – if the plot calls for her to shoot laser beams from her eyes, she can do it. Balance isn’t an issue, but a PC will never have those powers because it would destroy the game.

We can’t deny how some mesmers especially Countess Anise are powerful.

It’s not mesmers, it’s important plot NPC’s in general. Trahaerne can summon groups of elite flesh golems (or undead siege wurms). Logan can keep up a permanent sanctuary effect.
Most of those are way more powerful that it would ever be allowed into PC hands. They are here for plot relevant reasons, and would be completely unbalanced outside of the story limitations.

Actions, not words.

I just hope that higher cap levels will mean something with skills, and not just increase in damage, but adding more effects to them

I couldn’t care less, to be truthful, as level cap increase would likely make me quit the game for good.
With the current system, however, you are unlikely to get any new “high-level” skills. neither heal nor utility skills are level limited in any way, and the only level limitation on elites (level 30) is the same for all of them. Any future level cap increases (if they ever come – and i hope they won’t), will likely only mean new, higher level gear, and more trait points. Possibly also a new tier of traits (40-point). Not new skills. and certainly no high-level skills.

They’ve already said that they are developing methods of horizontal progression, such as new skills and weapons, and these can be introduced with or without a level increase. They will probably increase the level cap eventually, but with most players still working on ascended and Legendary gear there is no reason to do so this early in the life of the game. When a good portion of the players have Legendary weapons and armor they may raise the cap to give them something new to work for.

Npcs always have better profession abilities. For example trahearne is a powerful necro too, in a story mission he gathers power and spawns 5-10 flesh golems at once.

I know this in the current present events… but one day we are gonna evolve as characters while fighting Elder Dragons and it would make sense to me that as Heroes of Tyria we don’t just end up same skills just higher numbers.
Many of the reasons I asked this question, but one of them was actually to see if ANet really thought this far into the future (since they clearly are a clever bunch)

This game will never have an increased lvl cap because GW2 does not work like that. The leveling is more like tutorial for dodge, learning skills, buffs debuffs. In GW2 is not like other games"we introduce new items and a new lvl cap to be able to use them".
More items will be added but you will not need a higher lvl cap to use them, you will have harder ways to get them.

And don’t think you will have a new lvl cap because they will add new skills, the skills right now are not bound to the lvl.

MMOs are always changing, I’m sure that in the future there will be new skills, new weapons, new Legendaries and so on… that these things are in development have been confirmed, and not too long ago new healing abilities were added, and the rest of the ascended gear tier as well. Six months from now, a year from now, there will be more new toys to play with.

However, the devs have learned not to poke their heads into the forum and say “oh, yeah, we’re working on something like that.” What follows is weekly threads going “Where’s that thing you were talking about?” “Is that thing you told us about ready yet?” “Why haven’t you finished that thing you promised us?!” “I want that thing you promised and it better be here yesterday!”

So, the chances of getting a direct answer about these things before the plans are in their final stages is slim.

Also, any business with competent management has the next year planned out, three years blocked in, and a good idea of what they want to do in the next five years. Level caps, expansions, etc. have already been decided before the game released, they just don’t release the info to the public til they are ready.

“PC” stands for “Player Character”
Like “NPC” stands for “Non-Player Character” (or Non-Playable Character)
Not “PC” as in “Personal Computer”

The guardian and mesmer skills are granted by Caladbolg; it’s a bundle item. When a Sylvari PC gets to wield it in the 20-30 arc, they get the same skills regardless of profession as well.

Edit: On topic, the mesmer in Modus Sceleris can use a special black hole vortex skill which isn’t available to players. I kinda hope we can get that someday. The other named Modus Sceleris members tend to use unique skills too…

Not that i trust anet promises at this point…

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I think an important thing to realise is that in a MMORPG you cannot be “THE hero”, you’re just “A hero”, along with hundreds of other heroes.

Just think of how many champions that are way stronger than any PC will ever be.

Any plan that involves dead quaggans is, by design, foolproof. I’m an unmitigated genius!
