Anniversary sale for GW1?
I would buy it in a decent sale. I never played and have wanted to give it a try, but it is pricey. Is there a Mac version though?
It is kind of expensive nowadays. The cheapest from their store is to get the 3 campaign bundle, EotN and the BMP for a total of ~60$.
A lot of material but ya still, a sale bundle wouldn’t be out of the question.
I think that is the sale. Being afforded the opportunity to buy it in a bundle. Much like Living World Seasons.
There is always other retailers; I don’t think ArenaNet would change up their Guild Wars Store, especially with this little time before the anniversary.
I can’t remember the last time ANet sold the game at a discount. I have seen it bundled by retailers for at lower than US$60 (do make sure it’s an authorized copy — sometimes, you see a ‘deal’ that turns out to be a shrink-wrapped box, but someone has already used the serial code).
Yea its between $50 and $60 to buy GW1 and all the expansions from ANet last I checked. Which I honestly think is a little high considering how old the game is. An anniversary sale for $45 even for everything would be really nice (though I really wouldn’t mind seeing $30-$40 bundle pack of everything from ANet themselves).
+1 to that, would be really nice. Hell, I have 2 accounts but would buy a 3rd if it went on sale and I’m sure many others would too.
same, it would be even better if that sale happened on steam too
$60 for 3 games and an xpac isn’t that bad, even better if you compare with what you got with HoT at the same price.

No, but you can use PlayOnMac to play. Works fine for me.
Totally agree with OP
Ingame Shop sale would be nice too need them stashes >:)

Not on the surface, until you realize that its an MMO with a small population currently, as well as one that hasn’t had any updates in years and isn’t going to be getting any content updates in the future. I don’t mind paying that price, but I do think its a tad high
Pretty much most of my guild (including myself) would pick it up if we could get a 30-40% sale. That’d be amazing!

$15/title for a game that is 12 years old? That looks pretty bad to me, especially since I had no trouble get the same combination for US$40 back when the game was still being actively developed (well, at least, there were adjustments to festivals & GW: Beyond).
Seems to me that $30 would be a “not bad” price, i.e. $10 per ‘campaign’ with the expansion thrown in.
Guess I don’t feel so bad now, 1 year after release, I got all 3 campaigns for $9.00 when CompUSA went out of business. Best $27 that I have ever spent(at the time).
I agree, a sale would be really nice.
Great idea

Yeah, prizes are crazy high

Maybe if you research a bit you will realize it is not a mmo but a CORPG or Competitive/Cooperative Online Role Playing Game.

For an old game it has been able to hold my attention better than gw2, plus it is actually a complete game while in GW2 they can’t even release an xpac. But, might not be up to your taste, because you don’t play gw1 because of gw2 but you play it because its gw1.

You are discussing the value of the game to some people. I’m talking about the price paid by everyone to acquire the game. And I’m not even saying it’s unfair; I’m offering the opinion that it’s not a bargain for a 12-year old game.
This may be my inner fanboy speaking (Or the 5k hours cough cough) but the game is definitely worth 60$.
Playing through all 4 campaigns will probably take you at least 100hrs. (150-200 if doing some side quests) And that is with one character only, no hardmode, no titles, no friends to play elite content and dungeons, no farming for some nice looking gear and no PvP (okay this one is basically non existant these days)
That being said though I really wouldn’t mind them putting it on discount to get some new players into it who maybe haven’t seen it yet. And it’s not like goldsellers or bots could get any worse…
All we wanted was a GvG.

I agree. You can actually get the first 3 core games for $10.00 each if you buy the trilogy package but EOTN is still $20.00 so that’s $50 for all.
What would really be good is if they gave away the trilogy. That would bring in new players right there, and if they wanted to link to GW2, buy EOTN. More or less the same thing they are doing now with GW2, core game free, purchase expansions and receive core game.

I’m with you on that, but still. The game is indeed a decade old and might not get any content updates in the future plus there is no trial – it’s a blind investment that doesn’t sound all that appealing despite the game itself being awesome.
A sale means more than just a lower price – it shows that Anet still acknowledges the game’s existence which in turn means people are much more comfortable buying the product knowing that the company is still backing it to some extent.
I’m glad I already have them all…..

I believe the free trial still exist:

oh yes, I have someone in the guild who wants to play GW1, but if baffled by the fact it’s still so expensive

Any luck with that? (I’m at work)
you can get it off amazon very cheap . no box or anything like that included and its all done by download for $20.00 you get almost all the games but not the bonus pack or other items . and this is where i got my acount from for the same price https://www.amazon.com/NCSOFT-41136-Platimun1-Guild-Wars/dp/B008Y43IMG/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1492193860&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_theme_browse-bin%3A10111600011%2Cp_89%3ANCSOFT
That doesn’t include Factions or Nightfall unfortunately. You typically have to also buy the trilogy pack if you want everything which pushes the cost up to ~$50. The prices are pretty much the same as if you were to buy from the Anet store.
Other people have given indication that they’re surprised that it’s so expensive. They have to realize that you’re essentially paying $10 each for 3 games and an expansion. Diablo 2 is selling for $10 for the game and expansion separately. Same goes for Warcraft 3. The prices are more than reasonable and other companies, such has Blizzard which people often use as a reference, follow the same thing.

please do not ever ever quote me again ever please . as your very mistaken . case in point that link i posted is for the Platinum Edition meaning you get the full game including factions and nightfall and eye of the north too but not the bonus pack that came out after the eye of the north if i remember right also too looking on the guild wars web site its self you can even get the Platinum Edition from there for $20.00 just like you can from amazon http://store.guildwars.com/store/gw/en_US/pd/ThemeID.37893000/productID.299594600
Please read it again.
Access to the full Guild Wars® game and Guild Wars: Eye of the North® expansion via downloadable client.
For the Amazon link, go to product description. It does not include Factions or Nightfall.
Funny thing is that if you scroll down on the Amazon page, someone even asks if they’re included in the q/a section which they’re told no.

Oh. Here’s another link with someone asking which they should buy. They’re told which combination of titles they have to purchase to get everything.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
As for those that want to get it cheaper, check Steam. They had a 50% off sale a few years back. I think their next seasonal sale is in June but no idea if GW1 will be a part of it.

Read the info in the link you posted. It plainly says “Access to the full Guild Wars® game and Guild Wars: Eye of the North® expansion via downloadable client.” And, having bought the Platinum Edition myself, I can also confirm that the Platinum Edition does NOT include Factions or Nightfall.
Also, the Amazon link you posted also clearly says that it only includes Prophecies (Guild Wars: Game of the Year) and EOTN; scroll down to Product Description to check for yourself.

Yeah you’re right :/
This is the week, c’mon Anet! #believe #savethedream
The 2 week event just started, please don’t pass up this excellent opportunity Anet!
Since the price for the expansion hot dropped to 30$ dont you think that it would be cool to reduce the price on the original gw game as well like 20 for the trilogy or what ever price makes sense for a game of this age today. Alot of ppl got really interested in the current story which is alot closer to the original game than the personal story and and hot. Or idk at least doing sales on the game anf featuring it in gw2’s main page for ppl who might be itnerested. I want to get int the game and experience it but each expac costs like half the current one :/
I’m not sure if they will. You’re already getting 3 games and an expansion for $12.50 each.

The trilogy costs 30 euros and eotn other 15 so its 45 for everything.

EotN was $20 the last I checked. Also note that I said each and not total. Considering you said it was 30 euros for the trilogy, which it’s $30 as well, I doubt that currency impacts the price difference.
