Just wasted 4 hours trying to figure out if there was some way that I could possibly make a bunch of decorations and claim a hall only to conclude it’s impossible and be so depressed that GW2 doesn’t have housing that I’m going to pass on the money I was gonna spend

Want to read about a nice mini expansion to make Mordremoth and Zhaitan better?

Taking a guild hall solo is technically possible, I saw a video of a DD doing it, but she said she tried for hours, messing up several times within a few % of killing the last boss and being forced to start all over. Would not recommend trying to solo.

However, you can get some help from others to claim your GH, and then build your guild up slowly by yourself and decorate it. Or you can start your own guild and let other people join to help you build up the hall and gather mats for scribing, but you don’t give anyone else permissions to place decorations.

Is it actual housing? No, its not a good replacement for it, especially because of how huge the GHs are. However it is an option, and right now its all GW2 has. I would advise that you at least give this a try before giving up on this entirely. The game has a lot of neat features, and especially if you get some help with decoration mats it can be a lot of fun to decorate a GH

If you do decide to do it, find 4 others only. It’s easiest that way because of scaling. My biggest thing about solo guild halls is that no one will ever see them. STRM switched to lost precipice and after a couple weeks of mad decorating people have kind of forgotten about it. Ask yourself if you really want it for you or for others. In both scenarios there are other games with far better potential wether it is for you alone or a mod that you would like to share with others. Coughskyrimcough.

Well I love the idea of personal housing and always have, but at the very least I hope they get around to reducing scribing costs a bit more, redoing some of the recipes and simplifying them a bit like the fact that you need 3 ceramic planters for one non-basic plant, or at the very least adding a bunch more decorations.

Really hoping they add some this patch but I keep hoping that each update and it doesn’t really happen.

Would be great to get portals/chests/actual buildings like ceilings and floors and cheaper walls and things to build reasonable structures with.

I don’t know how hard it is to implement but a lot of the decorations we already have just seem like assets that are already in the game used elsewhere and coded for use in the guild hall.

I do sympathize with you though. Even the cost to be able to upgrade your building enough to be able to start scribing is costly. I can’t lie that I’ve swiped my card a few times just for guild hall upgrades and decorations. lol But it’s something others can enjoy too.

Simply travel to Lion’s Arch and post in Map Chat and LFG. You’ll have a small party in no time that will help you claim a guild hall. However, guild halls are a very expensive project that doesn’t really pay off for just one person.

Or just go play SWtOR. Their Stronghold housing is awesome.

Can’t say I really understand player housing myself, what is the general appeal to such a thing, especially in an MMO of all things?

Hate is Fuel.

I would love it if they let you customise your Home Instance… The system already exists, you can already invite friends etc to it if you want to “show it off”. If a Charr gets to customise something in the home instance in The Black Citadel, a Human gets to customise the house in the home instance in Divinity’s Reach etc it would also make your race’s own home instance a bit more like home.

Well, I have a solo guild (a few mates helped me cap the hall), and I got into decorations… It’s definitely possible for a solo player, but that’s incredibly expensive. Do you want decorations or do you rather have a(nother) legendary. That’s about the same price.

Most guides are inaccurate when it comes to decorations, and tell you you need the Marketplace and the Guild Decoration Vendors to buy the basic ones (used to craft the fancy ones). You don’t. The scribe dude sells them too (for 50s instead of 24s). So in order to decorate, you only have to unlock the Scribing Station (which requires the Tavern, the Mine, and Aetherium Capacity). It’s still very expensive, but it’s nothing compared to the extra 600g or so you would have to spend just to unlock Decoration Vendor II.

You will also have to level a Scribe. If you follow online guides, that will cost around 350g. More if you level it through decorations only (which is the way to go if you do it just for decorating, since you will end up with a stock of nice assets instead of wasting your money).

And then there’s the price of the super fancy decorations you will craft at level 400… Realistically, as said above, it’s about the same price as a legendary. So it’s up to you. But if you’re into decorating and can afford, go for it, even as a solo player. It’s definitely doable.
