Another Core game prediction.
Yeah, I think that motive is fairly apparent. I expect non-HoT users to be second-class citizens. Not saying I agree with this, just saying I believe it will be true.
I like to support Anet. I’ve had the best 8 years of gaming because of them and will continue to support them.
They announced that they will go forward on Fractals and Raids.
I predict that Fractals will receive a balance pass to reflect HoT gear, Items and Profession changes.
I understand that Raids should fully reflect HoT changes, they are HoT content.
Fractals are Core content. If they receive a HoT balance pass, they become less do-able for the Core player, Core players become undesirable for groups, Core players get pushed down the food chain.
I bought GW2 with the understanding I could play it standalone. There is nothing about HoT that leads me to want to purchase it. I’ll be very annoyed If they change Core content to leverage HoT purchases, but I think it is already in the works.
oh, that already happened
there is a hot only fractal mastery track, that will likely be suggested for further fractal progression past 50.
they are also rescaling difficulty to make it easier to get into.
it will also only take 1 fractal level to progress in fractals
so your level 50, may end up being a lower difficulty level than it used to be.
now my conjecture is, to accompany the lower difficulty, and a faster path to 50, they will likely nerf the rewards for fractal 50.
moral of the story, buy hot.
oh noooo ! this company is trying to sell their product ! how dare they !
oh noooo ! this company is trying to sell their product ! how dare they !
problem is they are selling it by nerfing the product they already sold you.
its like an inverse treadmill.
They just push you back instead of having you run in place.
There is nothing about HoT that leads me to want to purchase it.
Me neither but the fact remains if we don’t we’ll be at a disadvantage. We’ll be locked out of new farming zones after Silverwaste becomes a deserted wasteland and if our class has an elite spec that’s optimal for the class overall then we won’t be able to access it. I’m only buying it because I feel I have to.

We like it when they sell us stuff (especially outfits and armor skins) the problem is it’s a 50 dollar expansion that doesn’t have any advertised optimizations. Other games with less expensive expansions did drastic API overhauls. World of Warcraft has an untick option for use 32-bit client. I know this isn’t WoW, this is a game that came out in 2012 and not 2005 when emo bands and pop-punk roamed the Earth.
Revenant and elite specs sound nice but they actually throw balancing out of whack. Don’t have an overpowered class when HoT releases? Tough luck, by the time you get it to 80 it’ll just be rebalanced anyway.
I wouldn’t be surprised, I suppose. It pushes players to purchase HoT just that much more, which, in itself isn’t a bad thing. They need to promote their game, though I’m not sure I completely agree with their method to do so.
