So what do people really want ANET to do?

First: “Blah Blah Blah that is why I quit this game “X” months or years ago”. I ask then why troll the forums if you are no longer playing? What value do you have to add if you are not actually in game? I overlook these posts the minute I see them.

Second: There is PvE, PvP, WvW, Raid, Dungeon, Fractals and living season content. Not sure how many developers there are or their specialty but balancing is always a continual battle in every MMO I have ever played. Not all of the masses will ever be satisfied. EVER!

Third: From a business continuity standpoint it almost like people think ANET is trying to purposely fail the game. Oh how I lol at this. Just because YOU or I think something is OP or incorrectly balanced does not mean the next person sees it this way. Yes I have raised concerns in the forums on many topics and ANET ultimately relies on the community to further develop some aspects of the game.

Fourth: How about some constructive feedback (which I applaud the many who do) instead of destructive incoherent-ness that does not help further your cause and want me so badly to mail you salt packets in-game which I would never do but so badly have wanted too :P

Fifth: I have interacted with CS on some account issues that were taken care in a timely manner and shocked at even recovering a destroyed ascended weapon. Exchanged a wrongly purchased accessory and a couple of other small issues. I have reported bugs that I would like to think my report got it fixed

In reality folks I have issues with some aspects of the game and have raised my concerns in as civilized as a manner I could.

With the exception of Raids I play every aspect of the game. Due to time constraints I do not raid. I do not care to have a legendary shiny. I do not care for fractals though I did for a while. I found new life away from PvE in PvP and WvW. I ignore saltiness in chat instead of inflaming it.

If you interact with people in an elitist tone I believe that gets you nowhere but ignored or in the least a quick look and close post. Last time I checked this is a game. It is virtual with the exception of the people behind the keyboard. Your life nor mine does not depend on it. If it is that bad it is time for a break. I work in an IT Just In Time delivery system to an automotive manufacturer…that is stress!. So I use GW2 as a stress relief while so many stress out for something not really real.

I would say I have invested about $300 to $400 in this game with GW2 Vanilla and Hot plus Gems. Not too bad for almost 5 years, so for me 56 months divided by 12 comes out to $4.60 a month or less. FAR less than I piad other MMos with monthly fees.

So I ask again what do you want ANET to do? Be your personal servant? Give you shiny things for free? Let’s be more civil and I bet you get better results though sometimes the results may not benefit your cause but the greater good of the game. The saltiness is killing my kidneys :P

This is like “I’d pay money for”, “I’d pay 1000 gems for”, etc. It’s an effort to bargain with, or threaten, anet into doing what they want. Much of the time it’s the only thing they consider to offer, because it’s the only sort of thing that would motivate them to change something, I guess, and providing supporting reasons is hard.

Second: There is PvE, PvP, WvW, Raid, Dungeon, Fractals and living season content. Not sure how many developers there are or their specialty but balancing is always a continual battle in every MMO I have ever played. Not all of the masses will ever be satisfied. EVER!

Even with good information, players still have this idea that some specs are magically better than others. It’s like the constant requests for “DirectX 11” support: it’s not a matter of facts, it’s a matter of faith. They have a faith-based belief that there is always going to be a single true way to build a raid (or whatever) that works, and nothing else is acceptable.

Nah, this is just another side of the “bribe / threaten” effort to make anet obey. In this case it’s “clearly X is the way to not fail at MMO, and you didn’t do X even though I told you that you would fail, so if you keep not doing X then you will FAIL”

Anyway, at the end of the day, this is people trying really hard to express something they want in the only language they understand, and would respond to. Telling them better ways, it’s really not going to help, because that’s not the problem.

The problem is a belief that these are the only ways to get something to happen.

There is a thread right now where players are chiming in on the idea of a shortbow version of the Stormbow skin. I posted that its something that I would buy if it was made available. Im not really trying to bargain with or threaten ANet in that matter.

I’ve been waiting for this post :P

Realist is different from Elitist. I am no higher on the food chain than everyone else nor do I claim to be.

The forums are open to everyone’s scrutiny but I ask you Sir/Ma’am… How did you further the conversation? Ask me a question or two and maybe I can clarify for you what you may have misunderstood.

Let me quote you something you wrote in a past post and highlight some key words and THEN maybe you will understand. " Not gonna turn this into a stupid argument because I didn’t plan my words for every possible way they could be interpreted.

Understand? If not, it’s still okay

Your Original post so not called a liar

It’s Legendary. It should be different between Males and Females. That’s Male armor all the way. Big and tough. Female Heavy should be more elegant.

Why can’t males be elegant and females be big and tough? Pretty sexist of you..

Let you choose then. Not gonna turn this into a stupid argument because I didn’t plan my words for every possible way they could be interpreted. I was just talking about my personal preference for things. :\

  • While I can understand frustration with how some players express themselves on the forums, I hardly think that telling them to stop it is going to accomplish anything. Hopefully, this is only an attempt to yourself vent anger, and not a serious request.
  • Expecting everyone who posts on an internet forum to be positive, consistent and to avoid anger and/or hyperbole is likely to be ignored, at least by those you’re targeting.
  • Even negativity can be instructive if the developer can read between the lines.

I am not angry to be clear on that. I am serious about the post.

Most of the post is meant to be aimed at a certain community of people who either do not play, hate playing yet still play or do nothing to further their cause other than drop a few lines of their dislikes of the game and nothing more.

Negativity I agree can be a valuable tool. However being a tool is a different story. I don’t think a majority of those that vent in a few lines because they got “insert issue” in PvX and blame the developers without knowing this is MMO and this is how MMO has always been and will be; a constant change in variables that affects the outcome of certain game play whether intended or not.

I know I am not going to change the world in forums and not trying to. I hope some people read my OP and try another method to vent their frustration in a more constructive way. Their is a such thing as “negative constructive”.

Bug Fix:

Fixed a bug that caused a crash when attempting to deploy siege disabler after deleting the item from inventory.

SIX HUNDRED FILES LATER….

I will become less salty when BT finally give me an internet connection that is not made of wood.

But seriously, 600 files for that?

I agree..not sure why so many files but falls in line with “not intended” aspects of how one update or change can affect another. This is where live testing by real players like us could come in handy. Between seasons? Between Raids? Between dailies? Between “insert whatever you were doing”…. come do some test server stuff. The ONLY thing I miss from WoW was that option.

Plus I downloaded those 600 files via my tether at work lol. Why is my data so high when wifey asks…….

I don’t think that there is anything wrong with mentioning an interest or willingness in spending money on X.

Sadly, lots of people say they would spend money on X, but in practice, they are rarely correct about the economics of things in MMOs — per MMO developers when they talk about this stuff.

So, arguments like “I’d pay $$$ for X” are both unuseful, and generally disregarded because real world experience over the last decade says that players won’t do as it suggests.

Instead, what developers look for is why you think this is a good thing, or fun, or whatever. It’s much more important to them than if you think you would pay for it or not, in the abstract. (Also, they don’t really care if you would pay for it, they care what the million+ players would pay for, which is something you and I can’t really speak to.)

Your best case outcome after saying “I’d pay $$$ for the skin” is “ah, this player wants it, I guess. no idea why, though.” Focus instead on why you think it is awesome.

(and, concretely, you might notice that I explained I’d be interested in that skin because I use shortbow much more than longbow across my toons, which is a “why” it would be nice to have.)

I disagree. Criticism is aways essential in improving any product. While some people may direct their complaints in an immature fashion or focus on trivial things, that does not mean there are not legitimate grievances.

Anet is far from infallible and have often made missteps in rolling out certain changes or updates. If your player base is willing to invest thousands of hours playing your game, it would be wise to listen to their critiques.

I do not disagree. Constructive Criticism. I think people who are reading the post and replies may have the wrong idea on what I am trying to convey. I have nothing against pointing out problem areas of the game they are experiencing. It is the mentality in the way it is brought to the attention. ANET sucks, or ANET is failing or Fix this fix that in a sentence or two without really creating a post that is viable for further discussion because in many cases the poster never comes back and replies and if they do it is either to attack others who disagree or another one sentence rant that once again does not further the topic.
