Realy i did…

Now don’t get me wrong, i love this game best game i have ever played, i purchased it the very day it came available for pr-purchase and played through all Beta events and loved every single moment of it..

Even when the game was released and the one or two opening few day problems i didn’t mind i was getting a great game to spend my time in.

But now…

Well i will tell you what i have been seeing today that made me logg off in disgust.

Today i thought well i would like to try some more dynamic events, so i used wp to go to Penitent path, i hear the one there is quite fun..
When i get there i stand for a while and watch before the event starts. all i see is rangers and warriors teleporting from mob to mob killing them then teleporting back to the gate.
Not just one person doing this.. WHOLE GROUPS of them..
So i after being waved at a few times by the Npc telling me the other camp at other side of tunnel is being attacked i run down there.
And what do i see..
The same group teleporting from mob spawn point to mob spawn point killing the mobs before they even get to the camp.
So i left the area.
I went to Splintered coast thinking maybe i will have a fun time trying the Dragon for a change.
I get there and stand by the Research facility and watch for a while…
What do i see.?
Groups of people Teleporting from mob to mob on the map…
{sound familiar yet ?}
The event with the Krait attacking the lab starts.. but i never see a Krait the ’’teleporters’’ are doing exactly the same thing as the ones described above teleporting from spawn point to spawn point killing all before ’’normal’’ gamers could tag anything.
Now if this carries on you are going to be left with NOTHING in this game but teleporting botters.
Which is a real shame because as i say i love playing this game it’s a hell of a lot of fun when your given a chance to play it.
{and yes before some people say i did report the ones i could tag quick enough in between the teleports}

They disappear from a spot and appear on another apparently while jumping and land in the new location. They cross huge distances that way. Then they attack with melee from absurd ranges.

Basically as with all MMo’s, the OP is upset because botting happens in the first few weeks.

It takes a while to separate the botting code lines from the genuine players, and companies do not take action until they are sure they are taking out the right people.

Most VG companies have a zero appeal procedure once their system has busted you for 3rd party use, so they will need to ensure that those they take out are the bots and not the players. FFXI was a good example, wiping out a third of the population for using fishing rods. That was an embarrassing month for the SE devs (one of many).

I work in a similar industry myself and I can tell you that profiling and capturing bots is a long process, no matter how obvious it is ingame, and taking them all out at once far outshines taking one or two out at a time, as it cripples the companies, rather than showing them how to circumvent the detections.

Be patient, report them, and let the system do it’s job, but for heavens sake don’t throw a fit about it. The company is on your side with this one, not the botters. Don’t hurl fire at the company when they want rid of them just as much as you. Don’t make their job harder than it already is.

well my only problem is that the developers were quite quick to nerf real players playing the game but not doing enough about the botters. Lets face it, nerfing the drop rates will not hurt the botters because they will just keep chugging on but real players will get hurt as they do not have the bot ability to ..well keep botting

Strange. I’ve never seen this from the bots. I have seen them standing in one spot flailing at nothing forever, or standing at a chest/node spawn waiting.

This is sad but as the previous poster said, seeing it in the game is a pretty good way to identify it (and it should be reported when you do) but there simply isn’t enough manpower to physically find bots in game. They have to do it through code, statistics and then observation before they can really take dramatic action.

Although I think if I were in charge of an MMO I would have a report botting option and a team of about 100 volunteer player-trustees (known as Game Guides as opposed to Game Masters in earlier MMO’s) who could go investigate, gather evidence and escalate appropriately.

In fact, I think I’ll volunteer to help. It’s something else to do in the world, and this world is stunning.

You seem to think that dev’s and customer support are standing in the game world waiting for stuff to go wrong.

You realise they barely ever, if ever at all step into Ascalon, instead use monitoring tools to confirm then action it.

Lets take this on a more general scale. Do you think there would be any reason for a company to allow botting in a game, or for them not to action it? They lose face from their playerbase and it causes more work for their support team, which means more money into support.

You have to try to understand that botting is a constantly evolving process, always being just the right side of the detections.

Imagine how the code looks for people killing over 500 monsters in one day, and over a specific area. What about the genuine players farming for specific materials in the same area?

A player report on a bot is pretty much meaningless these days. The systems do everything, and over time action those that break the rules. The playerbase problem is that they expect their bot report to be actioned immediately (often waiting next to the reported bot to see it get taken offline), but this isn’t how it works.

Oh, please. This is some obvious packet editing. They are not trying to be discreet. Most games don’t give the client that amount of control to begin with and automatically block such absurd anomalous behavior. If this sort of stuff is possible, I can’t een picture when the duping exploits will show up.

You are one of the worst enemies in the war against exploits and bots. You make the issue a much bigger one that is, act like it is the end of all things, and squarely point the finger at the company. You are what is wrong with playing communities, as you do not have the capacity to understand the processes required to investigate, confirm, action and ban an account for botting. You will never understand as you don’t want to, you only want to blow smoke up the chimney where there is a chance for a little drama.

If you cared enough you would research these processes and see that there is a lot more to it than enacting whatever judgement a ranty little kitten like you tosses out on a forum.

Calm down and grow up.

and here again is another example of the worst kind of posting. You are creating something out of nothing. The botting issue persists in all games, no matter how many preventions are put in place, and just so you know, anti botting scripts have a huge effect on server load too, so when they run, we will lose functionality at the player end as a result (slower logins, higher pings during scripting hours etc).

I don’t know how it is so difficult to grasp that botting has no fix all solution. Where there is a will there is a way, and where there is code to manipulate, there will be people to manipulate it. Don’t forget, some people making these botting programs do it because they can, and nothing more. They want to see how resilient of a program they can make, to make some cash on selling it too. There are a billion preventions possible for bots, and there will always be a billion and one ways to get around it.

You have to see that if it was such a simple solution, it wouldn’t exist. There is NO benefit to any company having bots in their game. None at all, so they work their hardest to eliminate it.

It just takes time.

Also your comment on the health of the game over an issue that most of the playerbase don’t even know about? Yeah. Sorry, thats not even worth addressing.

Considering most players in this thread don’t know what you’re talking about, nor do I, it may be more discreet than you think. Also, keep in mind that there are 400,000 users on at once and even if Arena Net has 4000 employees monitoring the game (they don’t) they could only feasibly be monitoring a very small portion of the players playing the game at once. That is why you should report and let them sort it out, and stop acting like they aren’t listening. They have no reason to let this behavior continue, they have put features in to help circumvent it. There is no discussion to be had here, really.

GW2 is not all games. In this game is has more of an impact than your average MMO. In many games gold (currency) has no real value. In Guild Wars 2 though gold converts to gems and gems back to gold. I know there is no way to 100% stomp out botting, but there is a serious massive botting presence in this game currently. Anyone with two eyes and a brain between their ears can see that.

If this is allowed to continue as its current pace and the volume of botting grows then Anets own gem shop will become a worthless pile and the currency we earn in a legitimate fashion will have no value outside of repairs and vendor bought merchandise. This directly leads to ANOTHER problem. Unlike other MMO titles GW2 has no direct trade system and NO COD system for mail. Which means as the value of gold decreases and as inflation goes up… Players will have no way to fall back onto alternative methods of trading, such as the barter system (unless we start using third parties as a go between).

There obviously needs to be checks on the back end for things like teleporting.
