Get into an AB map, start progressing the meta, charge up a pylon or 5 across the map with 20 or so people. Get popup to move map because “empty”. Knowing how this turns out we decide to just move map and start over.
We start over on another map and get a popup again with 20 odd people on map, so we move again.
The next map we are in is pretty great, we suddenly had 4 commies and around 50 people on the map based on squad numbers. After about 20 minutes and at least half the pylons being charged up, we get another popup. At this point its not worth swapping maps, the timing(1 hour to map close) is exactly in the middle of the Octovine and we are HOPING megaserver doesn’t screw us over, so we stay on this near full map, taxi people in and just hope.
Halfway through the Octavine, lo and behold we get kicked.
How is this not fixed 6 MONTHS after launch?
2 hours wasted.
This problem is getting old.
Would the system have force us to skip maps until Octovine started? With zero participation.
Don’t even know what to do about this anymore. Stopped counting the times this has happened.
This is game breaking… In case you were not aware.
Despite this being game breaking bug we have ZERO statements from ANET about this issue besides a vague “megaserver is a bit problematic”. Yes I am paraphrasing.
Hmm, it seems like Auric Basin seems to be the only map to suffer from this.
Losing participation the second you leave a map (or when you move to another version of the same map) is problematic in general. D/C in the middle of MoM fight? Sucks, you get nothing…
I like the overall concept of being rewarded based on your participation. But when stuff like this happens with the “closing map” bug… as you said, it’s just wasted time. And these metas are LONG, so it’s a LOT of wasted time.
Well, the megaserver is not a new thing. It’s been around a loooong time now. Plenty of time to iron out the major problems, you’d think.
I mean, exactly how many people need to be in a map for them to leave us alone long enough to finish a meta?
The solution is NOT to move map- taxi people into your map.
I have successfully preventing HOT Maps from closing many times by doing this.
Accepting the volunteer bonus usually results in a unstarted map.
The thing with AB is after the Octo meta people flood out so it often incorrectly marks maps for a potential closure.
The key for all the HoT Maps is to get those taxis going and ignore the volunteer bonus in many cases.
I once had a problem where it wouldn’t let anyone in my map taxi ppl in after it had been flagged for closure. Like people would join my grp from LFG and not be allowed in. Has that been fixed? One time bug?

Filling a map once it has warned that it will close doesn’t prevent closing, at least not 100% of the time. I’ve been in more than one DS map that threatened to close, that we filled, couldn’t taxi in anymore, and it still closed on us before we could finish the meta even though everything was going smoothly.
Look I will be honest I have only once seen a map that said it was going to close actually close when the timer expired.
I have successfully prevented around 40 HoT Maps from closing after the pop up has appeared. This includes keeping maps that said they were going to close going for 6hrs straight – including several popups over that period for closing maps.
They are making back end changes to help fix maps closing when they should not.
With a 5% chance of a map actually closing (than not)- I would rather keep taxiing individuals in and completed T4 metas.
I have done this on VB, AB, TD and DS maps – and prevented map closing shift many times….it is possible.
Like everything in life it is not guaranteed – but there is a pretty good chance that map won’t close on you if you keep taxiing in.
Remember DS has a separate timer – where maps close regardless (fixed timer for a hard reset). This is different to the volunteer map close bonus – this is why people try to get maps filled within 10-15 mins of the new fresh maps starting.

You moved three times until you got to a third map – and then decided you would stay.
I read it very closely – and the last map was almost full (but was not full). You should have just stayed in the first map and taxi’d people into that one. I did this yesterday and prevented an AB map closing twice – so … We can prevent resorting to the profanitys?
I have many experiences of stopping maps from closing and can give you names of many happy people for you to PM where we have prevented maps from closing if you doubt me.
Why would the third map close and but not the fisrt one? How is it any different?
And we did fill up the map.

I recall John Smith talking about fixes to the way megaservers handle population and map closing, so it has been realized officially that there are issues. The type of thing OP has reported has happened to me on any of the new maps in the last months.
Additionally the guild halls have a very similar, but opposite behavior: they want to close if there are more players joining the map. This has been found out by our guild around guild mission times over and over. You are alone in guild hall, all is well. Then some more players join and all are asked to join a new map. You go to the new map, more players join, rince, repeat. It seems that megaservers can fire up a district server for a given player count and, when there is a mismatch between target player count and live player count, they will restart a new district, regardless of whether it is the upper or lower target player count that is violated. Maybe this also plays a role.
I had it happen one time just as we breached into tarir. People hopped. Half were inside and half locked outside …. fun times.
I always ignore the bonus and stay in the map.Most times it fills up before it closes.
But if accept the bonus and the port,9 out of 10 times I’ll be ported to a map that will
be flagged for closing as well.
Keep on being megaserved and be excited is my advice.
I find it shocking that we have zero dev communication about this after so long. This and the reddit post has yielded nothing this time around either.
Guess Monday would allow them some time.
I don’t do HoT anymore due to this very reason. It infuriates me that this megaserver/HoT map situation was launched like this and that it wastes my time completely. Matter of fact I don’t do much of anything since about 3 weeks ago when the last DS map did the same at the very kitten end of Mordy.
Just wait a few weeks/months and hope to hell MO is not just spouting rhetoric and actually starts fixing things and doing right by their customers and listening to our problems.
Still nothing by the devs… Good job ANET, gamebreaking bugs, zero interest in letting us know if thye even care about it.
