If I might suggest this, why not have players start with the weapon of their choice. Like say something like: “In battle, I use my trusty ______”, If I were a mesmer, the choices would be “sword” “greatsword” “scepter” or something like that. That would actually save players the trouble of having to go to the TP themselves to reselect the weapon they want.

A nice idea, but I genuinely feel that it would be too confusing for the new target audience. The NPE removed a lot of decisions and mechanics earlier on, to help new players adjust to the game – letting them choose their weapon would go against this.

Again, it’s a good idea and I agree with it, but that’s a step back to what the game was; not what it’s becoming.

I agree with Chameleon Dude.

Another problem it would stir up is that you always start with a main-hand weapon, and then you get your offhand selection when you level up or complete the story. This would result in confusing rewards for new players if they started with e.g. a Staff and then were given a Focus.

Its a nice idea but truth be told you can pick up the weapon you want straight from the TP or likely from a drop within a few levels. Seasoned players know this and new players don’t need to know it straight away.

if it’s there from the start then it’s no more confusing as choosing your pet, it’s BS to call it confusing when it’s just choosing the starter weapon.
the only thing i do have to say about this idea is that they have to stick to one handed weapons so the starter weapon always starts with 3 skills.
