Why not do it similar to how FF14 did their Relic weapons (same as legendaries).

While there are steps that involve grind, the actual hard parts are the fights.

Some steps that required fights:
1) Taking down an area boss in an open world. (3 different ones varying for weapons)
2) Speed run certain dungeons in order to get guaranteed drops (as long as its within 17 minutes)
3) Kill certain amount of enemies with the weapon
4) Complete certain faction quests (different for each weapon. Timed battle versus hard mobs)
5) Killing 2 “gods”. Equivalent of dragons, but in an instance and you only have your party to do it.

I believe doing those, would be more legendary than farming Orr, in order to get everything.
I myself, wanna make twilight, It doesn’t need anything that can be done for fun. Meaning it doesn’t need 100% world exploration, doesnt need dungeon tokens. It only needs things that are bought with gold. And it would cost around 500 gold to buy

Legendary weapons are not for everybody and their mother to have. It’s something only a select group of people will have. It’s fine how it is right now. It’s only for looks anyways.

Or you could do it like FFXI. Gather 18-40 of your closest friends twice a week for a year to run Dynamis at a million Gil a run.

Yeh, and THE way to determine the select group, is finding the people who have the most time to grind Orr

It’s a shame to see how some members of this community are extremely defensive when it comes to suggestions, and criticism towards this game.

Farming gold is not challenging. Period. It’s tedious, and extremely unfun. Offering suggestions to make fun challenges does not equal easy turbo super plus mode.

These suggestions are absolutely fantastic. Although I had my own suggestions for legendaries, I really feel that these alternatives would be much better in the game.

Having to fight epic bosses, gathering your friends together for challenging dungeon clears; that sounds legendary. By replacing the solo grindfest that is gold farming in this game with very difficult bosses doesn’t mean that everyone and ‘their mother’ will have these weapons.

Great suggestions, thanks for the thread

I think it would be good for the game if legendary items are gained through different methods. Your idea seems like a perfectly valid concept to fulfill a way to collect certain legendaries.

The only thing legendarily are currently are Legendary expensive.
Its not hard to get them… you just have to grind ALOT or be very lucky. For example, if you happen to loot 2 precursors, you got yourself a legendary. Or you have to go farm Orr for about 100 hours (Assuming about 2-3 gold per hour).

There are no “Legendary” weapons in GW2 only “Legendairy”

The belief that they’re anything but a farm-fest of boredom and anti-fun is in my humble opinion, grounds to think there’s some sort of delusional state of mind involved.

Irony…. xD

Would be nice if it was a quest line or something less repetitive. Im all for keeping it eclusive but maybe take ideas from gw1. I believe it was the underworld forge your party had to go into, do a few quests (what would be the equivalent of a few DE), open the forgemaster and craft if you had the supplies.

Im sure theyll implement a “hard mode” and thatd be a fun accomplishment towards legendary 2.0 skins and not evevryone would do it. so itd keep the population of them down.

Basically if they could figure out a better system geared towards trying to accomplish a very hard goal, instead of gold farming, itd be better. Like the equivalent of a 5-story dungeon in gw1. Lets hope it keeps changing for the better, for the community and not for gold sellers.

Yea, I remember that… Takes about 2 years to gather all the gil and items for an end game dagger. My THF/DNC was really sorry cause I couldn’t invest all the time required for her dagger ^^.

But ANET should include some ‘legendary’ dungeon runs or boss fights instead of a legendary gambling skill. I’ve played quite a lot of MMO and by far GW2’s legendary requirements are the most boring. The only thing you need is to grind and gamble. It makes me feel like I’m playing a gambling MMO instead of a fantasy MMO.

In the end, when they ask me about the story of obtaining my legendary weapon, all I can tell will be “I’ve traveled every corner of the world for three weeks and then threw 2000 great swords into a pool after months of grinding for gold and karma, which was basically doing THE KITTEN SAME process for about 1000 times and then got my Twilight”. Yea, a story to be told!

Don’t get me wrong. GW2 is the best game I’ve played for a really long time. I love playing PvE and W3 but this doesn’t mean I hate some methods they force us to get an ‘cosmetic’ item.

PS. the second most boring method to get an epic weapon was Knight Online, a stupid free MMO. Which had almost the same legendary requirements as GW2. Gathering and gambling. No need to face any ‘challenges’.

Ewww, a year for one item… it had want to make me coffee IRL at that point.
But yeah like I said, there’s nothing legendary about the ones that are available right now. Hence why I’ve returned to LoL and just don’t feel like logging here much, which is sad cos I loved this game
