Any OFFICIAL word on player housing? (please)
– Jake Chambers.
They will not answer. If it is coming you will know when it is released.
I hope not. That will waste players time when other things can be done. Want housing AA and other games already have it.
Official response: NO
A Skritt is dumb. A group of Skritt are smart.
A Human is smart. A group of Humans are idiots.
‘Waste of time’ is a personal definition surely. I know other games have it funnily enough, but I was asking about this game, as it has been long rumoured.
– Jake Chambers.
Housing is not a waste of time anymore than gaming in general is. What it DOES do for the game though is give us more things to do than dailies and other grinding. More than that, it gives us something that is “ours” that we can customize to our liking. Something to increase our personal investment in the game. People invested in games are less likely to be fickle and more likely to stick around. Also not a bad opportunity to come up with more overpriced stuff for the gem store.
More money for Anet. More reasons to have a stable and invested player population. Win / Win. If YOU feel it’s a waste of time, then by all means feel free to be a homeless hobo doing whatever it is you like doing.

“Nothing is off the table.” I have this from a reliable yet anonymous source.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
I suspect we’ll see housing with the first paid expansion.
I suspect we’ll see housing with the first paid expansion.
Sir, did you just confirm paid expansions coming soon?

Since there will be no paid expansion I think he confirmed no housing.
Although I do believe we will get more added to our personal zone that will be like our personal house.
It would be really cool if they would tell us what they’re thinking about housing in this game.
I highly doubt it will ever happen.
I am “That” guy you have all heard about.
1,073 precursors forged and counting.
I’ve never seen a dev state that they would not be doing player housing or guild halls.
I don’t think player housing would be a waste of time. The games end game is story and aesthetics. Players playing the game to acquire new skins would not be much different than players playing the game to acquire new things for their home. It would give players more to do in the game than work on legendarys and offer a great opportunity to Arena Net to monetize and make some money for the company.
Players call for in-game housing.
Designers spend six months working on the project, diverting resources that could better be used elsewhere.
Housing is introduced.
Players spend the best part of an hour rearranging furniture, inviting other players to look at their creations…but nobody really gives a kitten as everyone has the same house, same furniture, same everything.
24 hours later, the novelty wears off.
Designers think ‘Well that was a kittening waste of time…’
Players then whine for some other useless addition to the game…mounts probably.
Did i miss anything out?
You assume that housing will in fact be cookie cutter. ANet tossed out a lot of other expected MMO “inevitabilities” such as kill-stealing, node-stealing, the trinity … and they did it by saying “What isn’t fun in a game? Let’s get rid of that.” Assuming they apply said philosophy to housing, they could very well wow us.
People always say that Housing is a waste of time in a MMO. until their MMO gets Housing announced, then the tune changes. inevitably.
for example, it happened in WoW for years, and years, any mention of Housing was ridiculed. Now everyone can’t wait for Garrisons.
Housing is now a fairly standard feature of Modern MMORPGs. a good amount of them are now launching with housing from day 1, while the rest are playing catch up by implementing their Housing systems.
GW2 WILL have housing. eventually. Whenever ANet gets around to it. You can whine and moan and say it is a waste of time, or whatever, but eventually, at some point in GW2’s lifespan, Housing will be announced and introduced. and all of us will be excited for it. all the people screaming “WAAAAH ITS A WASTE OF TIME” now will then be making thread after thread full of Ideas to make Housing better.
However, repeatedly making threads begging for it won’t speed up the process. We’ll know when Housing is coming, when Anet announces it. and not a moment sooner.
Personally, I don’t necessarily want Personal Housing. I just would like to see Guild Halls, and that’s it. FFXIV’s housing system has the player having a personal room inside the Guild Hall. That is more along the lines of what I would want.
GW2 has far more important issues for ANet to deal with though.

Then GO PLAY WoW!!!

It’s funny, but the forums aren’t exactly brimming over with threads from players whining about things they don’t want, are they?
Then GO PLAY WoW!!!
No.

Since there will be no paid expansion…
‘Awful big as*umption you’re making there, sir.
I still remember when A-Net told about how your Personal Story will affect your House District… I then imagined Tybalt hanging around in my district, setting up BBQ apples or something.
Also, district customization. That I wanted too. Big time!
DAoC introed it at some point and it was acually quite fun both with guild halls and private houses and it gave a quite big gold sink. guild tropies for the walls n all. acually gave the guild a sence of pride to show off this n that boss kill. could be done quite nicely
I hope we get guild halls first, because the game is called Guild Wars after all. And GW1 had them.
But player housing would also be lovely. Preferably in a way that allows us to place our own house, or our own door onto an existing house.

I’m glad to see this has sparked a bit of debate, if nothing else it’s pleasing to see I’m not the only one who would still like this to be added. Still no official word, though I wasn’t really holding out a lot of hope for an official reply, but you never know.

Yeah, same here! I wish so much that they would give us an update. The question comes up pretty often.
Would love to see player housing, as I enjoyed it in SWG. But the biggest pain in the kitten about housing though is all the ghost towns. Don’t miss that….
I totally get what you mean regarding it having an effect on the visable population of towns, so it would be good for them (devs) to not put ALL town amenities in the home instance. Maybe a bank/chest (gem store items or some-such), just for ease of use and to make such a home feel like a home, if that makes sense.
