Any Reason to Buy Another Account?
There are 5 main reasons I can think of.
1) the daily login rewards
That’s 55 laurels every 28 days. If used to buy t6 mats, that’s 165 T6 extra t6 mats per 28 days
2) guild security.
If you are the sole member of a guild and you accidentally leave it, it’s gone. It and everything you had in it disappears. You can make the alt account a leader also and invite your main account back in.
3) storage.
If you have a lot of mats, you cans store extra stacks in your alt accounts bank. It does mean you have to take the time to mail the items or transfer to a guild bank for your alt account to pick up but you then don’t have to buy the gem store item that increases inventory size. Also you can use the character slots to make additional mules if you want.
4) a safe place to store gold outside your account.
Some people like to keep gold separate so they don’t accidentally use it. A guild bank is not safe. If a hacker cleans it out, ANet won’t give the gold or items back to you. If they clean out the alt account, you get one free account restoration.
5) five extra chars to play on
if you don’t want to pay $10 for a character slot on your main account, you can get 5 for the $10 on an alt account.
ANet may give it to you.

That’s a pretty good list there and gives me something to think about. I currently have maxed out my characters on my main account and so, I won’t be able to test the revenant when it comes out. I figured this might be an easy solution to that problem.
I also have a crap-ton of ascended trinkets that I share through my characters. If I have a guild bank between 2 accounts, would I be able to share those ascended items that way?
Account-bound items can not be placed in a Guild vault/bank. Thus, if your Ascended items are account-bound, no, you can’t share them between accounts.
I have 3 accounts and 4 personal guild banks. It’s great!
Another reason to have extra accounts is anonymity. It’s nice to be able to play without everyone in my guild knowing I’m online*. “Invisible” works to some extent, but it limits chat options.
*My guild leader can get a little OTT with teasing, commentary, and pushiness when I just want to explore and gather. It’s better if he doesn’t know I’m online.

This was the main reason I bought my second account. The second reason was that when I got a friend into gw2 I could actually have a lowbie to run with her rather than being 25+ levels ahead of her.
That and alts. I love alts.
So long Treeface.

LOL! That’s pretty messed up.
I’m not sure they don’t know who owns multiple accounts, as over in Account Issues, they have posted, previously, that they would ban all of certain ToS-breakers’ accounts.
Having a second account might not save one from being unable to play. /shrug

Well, actually it is a consideration as they have been known to make mistakes. My main account was banned for gold selling because I loaned a friend some gold to get the Golden title. She mailed it right back to me after she got the title but a few days later I was banned. I has to contact support to get it reversed. The thing is, if there was a problem with support I wouldn’t have been able to post a plea to reconsider in the Account Support forum thread for tickets as banned accounts can’t post. An alt account would have let me post on that forum.
Edit: Inculpatus says that might not work. I might need to buy one with an alternate credit card. ^^

Other reasons to have multiple accounts include playing on both NA and EU, and playing WvW on different servers. You’d probably have thought of these if you did have friends in different regions or servers that you wanted to play with, so they’re probably not applicable to you, but they are reasons why people buy more accounts.

WvW reason and a secondary daily login rewards are the reasons I’m buying one tomorrow. With the second account I plan on trying different tiers of WvW.

I got 2 extra accounts in the last sale but one.
I mainly did it to have the extra storage, but the extra logins like laurels are nice.
Also on i think its the end of 2nd week you get choice of exotic equipment, i always pick warrior and salvage the item as you will have plenty of black lion salvage kits from the login rewards, i’ve got some nice gold from the sigils/runes.
How do you transfer the extra daily login rewards to another account? I thought they were account bound?

How would they know? My household has three accounts and two computers for two players. There’s no rule about logging in from each other’s computers so I don’t think the ban on multiple accounts would hold up.
You can convert laurels to t6 mats and mail those to your main, same with anything you salvage. Mystic coins, gold etc can be transfered over to

They’re mostly referring to buying T6 materials with laurels, which well makes up for the $10 spent on a second account.

Laurels to T6 mats.

Well if all the accounts were bought with the same credit card and registered under the same name and address, they will have records of that. They might be able to see accounts bought with different cards but with the same person registering as the account holder.

I take my alt accounts into my main’s home instance to gather the nodes. Works for me with 2 computers. I’ve heard you can run GW twice on one PC, but don’t need to so have not looked into how it is done.
Makes it easy to gather the daily nodes, since I have enough of each type.
If you own two accounts, can I transfer one of my 80’s to my new account and use her as my farming character?
No, you can’t transfer characters or any items that are account bound or soul bound. You’d have to level a character on your new account to 80.

And unlock everything (skins/ap/etc) again. Thats the only reason I don’t really want a second account.

Yeah, I’m starting to not see the appeal so much anymore. The main reason I wanted one is that I really wanted to try out the revenant w/o buying a new character slot. I’ve been using my current account since shortly after release and so it’s got TONS of junk on it now.

I bought a second account the last time they had the 75% off sale. It was pretty annoying not having any “good” dyes unlocked, but skins were pretty easy to come by. You get a good chunk of different skins as you’re leveling and doing your personal story, and you can easily unlock them all by just salvaging. And the first 1k AP comes pretty quickly, too.

You’d have to buy the expansion pack for your new account if you wanted to do that, too. The game is very cheap to buy right now, but if you’re only wanting a new character slot for a Revenant, it’d be better to just buy the slot for your current account and the expansion when it comes out.

Nailed it in one. These are all reasons I had previously picked up another. Additional reasons might be:
- You want an account to share with a friend
- An account to explore other servers
- An account to just solo explore with
- An account to test new changes that affect just new accounts
Now bear in mind, this will cost you when they release HoT since you will be paying for multiple expansions. There is a reason they are trying to sell more accounts now after all versus just feeling nice. Good gaming!

I hate to be a terrible nitpick here, but I’m fairly sure that there’s something in the ToS about it being against the rules for multiple people sharing 1 account (or sharing log-in details for accounts with other people).
I realise that a lot of people do this anyway (undetected) but I wouldn’t recommend advocating it on the forums. (Also, the main reason why this rule is in place is to try to prevent account hacking and giving acc. details to gold-sellers/pay-to-80 people).
As for more reasons for getting multiple accounts:
-People with particular reputation/responsibilities (i.e. “famous” GW2 players, Guild Leaders etc) can benefit from second accounts. Having a second account means they can act how they want rather than the way their reputation dictates.

Didn’t gw1 give free char slots for new classes and such? Unless you have the 255 slots open and used to hit max, you may be worrying over nothing. Also a char slot is only 120ish gold.

I would not buy an alt account in order to try the Revenant, if that was the main reason to buy. Not only does the alts account not have all the things such as dyes and wardrobes that your main does but you will have to either buy the Expansion for both accounts, and then do the account bound mastery system and the Living Story and the achievements and rewards for it twice or only buy it on the new account and your main account’s chars won’t be able to access the new area, mastery system and living story and its rewards.
If you want to buy it’s really for the reasons I listed or reasons others listed such as being on a different data server with friends there or another server for WvW or the ability to play incognito, not for the expansion which will either double your work load for no real benefit or stop your main account from playing in the expansion.
ANet may give it to you.

Fair enough, but I have played with enough people with families that might be trying to setup an account for their child to play or a family with multiple siblings. But your point is valid. You should never share your account information. But your not if you are the parent logining multiple children into the game on different machines.

Question: If you get another account what do you do about the email address? Do you need to come up with a new email address? Or can you use the one you currently have? I mean I know it is easy to create a new email with Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, or whatever but if you never plan on actually using that email address it can cause problems later.

Your account name and log-in is your email that you choose to use for the account. One email address cannot be on two different accounts, so you’d need a different email for that account.
