The first time I played Guild Wars 2 I was blown away at how amazing and innovative it was until I got to high level and realized that there was no incentive or reward for playing the game.

Out of curiosity has this changed? Have they added a dungeon queue system, any incentives for grouping with other players, or significant and meaningful rewards for logging into the game and playing?

The last time I played GW2 even leveling a new character seemed irrelevant as you didn’t feel anymore powerful at level 60 than you did at level 40, and if you wanted to make “PVP” your end-game then your level really didn’t matter at all unless you enjoyed the talentless zerg fest WvWvW — I personally didn’t like this. Large-scale PVP is historically not popular even in other MMOs (Uldum, Isle of the Conquest etc.).

Have any changes been made to remedy these problems? Because I would love to play this game again without feeling like I’m investing a large amount of time to accomplish nothing.

Calling it now:

GW2 will never be like the mmos you are used to.

Large-scale PVP is historically not popular even in other MMOs (Uldum, Isle of the Conquest etc.).

The last time I played GW2 even leveling a new character seemed irrelevant as you didn’t feel anymore powerful at level 60 than you did at level 40 .

Because I would love to play this game again without feeling like I’m investing a large amount of time to accomplish nothing.

What MMOs have you played? And in what games do you accomplish something else than pixelated rewards?…

We all accomplish “nothing” in games. What we accomplish, is enjoying ourselves. And since fun is relative, we have different mmos. (thank god).

Nope,. nothing has changed. It’s the same as it was. You know why? Because it’s not a problem.

What you want is a different game, and that’s not this game. The concepts you’re espousing are the very things Anet has tried to move away from. Probably not the game for you.

I’ve been playing MMOs since EverQuest came out. So EverQuest, Asheron’s Call, Anarchy Online, DAoC, EverQuest 2, SWG, Vanguard, Warhammer Online, World of Warcraft, Rift, SW:ToR, EVE etc. are just a few I’ve played over the years. I find GW 2 to be the most innovative, but I find little incentive to log in and play, and when I do play it feels like a ghost town or single player game. When I feel this way in other MMOs I generally queue up for either a dungeon or world event and am immediately surrounded by other players. This wasn’t even an option in GW2, and on the rare occasion I ran into a new player there was less encouragement to communicate as there is no requirement to form an actual organized group.

You can say I am wrong, but when myself, and millions of other players who bought this game and loved it opt to play an inferior MMO (mechanic-wise) and even pay a monthly subscription fee to access said inferior MMOs because they offer some sense of accomplishment and reward, I think there is a major problem.

MMOs shouldn’t feel like a single player game, and level-based games with itemization shouldn’t feel as if your level or equipment is largely irrelevant.

gw2lfg.com That’s how people find dungeon groups. It works. It’s that simple.

What’s even simpler is finding a guild of like minded people and playing with them. My guild runs stuff almost every day. Why pug stuff when there are great guilds out there?

And now, with the new guild missions, there’s other organized stuff for guilds to do.

I’m actually getting off topic. I’m not really here to attack Guild Wars 2, I was merely curious if any changes had been made that might make the game more fun to regularly play. Or if any changes have been considered, proposed, or announced by the Development team. I understand not everyone has a problem with this game (if they did, they probably wouldn’t still be playing).

Anyways, it sounds as if there are no plans of making changes to encourage gameplay, and that was really my only question (I tried googling it but couldn’t find any information on changes or upcoming changes).

Thanks for your input.

And to add to that what ArenaNet added from launch:

Fractals Of the Mists (new infinite dungeon) – with some changes to progression requirements
Daily Achievements – huge improvements here with new rewords
Guild Missions – large group cooperative, open world play with long term progression,
Loot changes to World Events
Orr was revamped and much improved
Fixed most (99%) of the bugs
Living Story – long term world events
Dungeons with much improved loot
Ascended Gear – new tier of items

There was HUGE changes regarding the gameplay and feel of the game from launch and they keep on coming.

Dude I am… Just realize that yourself. I know that there are some bugs out there. But there is nothing game breaking. Almost no events stuck anymore and that’s what is most important (I know one in Orr that sill do stuck and that’s it). Skills also work properly. There are some bugs with the new released content but still… They are minor at most and properly handled.

PS. All games have bugs…

There was this big patch that came out a few days ago. It added guild missions as well as new ascended accessories.

I’m thinking that we consider the same things “endgame”, OP. If true, then:

Fractals were added in November. It is a good dungeon, though extremely repetitive. Though it has many levels of difficulty, it offers little additional challenge past Level 10.

Two new sPvP maps have been added since release. Both are fun. The newest one is based on CTF, which is always great.

And that’s it.

Dungeons were revamped and / or nerfed, with no additional rewards added.
No new Fractals have been added since their initial launch.

Is a lie. They’ve added a pile of silver from any of the dungeon bosses and a Bag of Goods that consists of Karma Potion, Bag of Coins and few dungeon specific Trophies. Also the dungeon completion reward was improved few times (more karma, more gold and more trophies on first run).

And the end-game is not what you do with cooperative gameplay. But everything you do after max level. Like in WoW: dailies, reputation farming etc…

With alot of the new or revamped content Zerg’s are not as usefule as they use to be.

Belive it or not its vary clear that A-net has a much better understanding of there Playerbase related to there game micanics and is now building content with that in minde.

adding improved AI combat with more skills and stage’s to change the flow, and although numbers help, for alot of the big new content numbers on there own dont win the fights.

(( true enough I cant say the same for most old content though))
