Not used my 2 warriors for awhile, but one has 2 axes so I guess that can also use 2 swords, if twin swords is what you are referring to.

Swordsman as in someone who use a sword? Yes. Warrior, Guardian, Revenant, Ranger, Thief and Mesmer all use a main hand sword. Mesmer is possibly the closest to a fencer/duelist use of sword if that’s what you’re looking for.

If you’re looking for a class that dual wields swords then Warrior, Revenant and Mesmer all do.

Unless there’s some specific definition you’re using that I’m not au fait with.

All melee, sword users:

Present Proffesions:
1 sword warrior (dual possible, condition build)
2 sword guardian (main hand only, DPS) (support type char)
3 sword ranger (main hand only, DPS)
4 sword thief (main hand only, DPS)
5 sword mesmer (dual possible,DPS) (support type char, “caster” proffesion)

Future proffesion:
6 sword revenant (dual possible,DPS)

I find the warrior and the mesmer closest to sword masters,
thief’s sword is an interesting weapon allowing 3 targets cleaving DPS shadowsteps and easy interupts, being less powerfull then daggers it still hits more, for okay dmg
ranger’s sword is powerful (more powerfull even then GS) but tends to frustrate me a bit while playing, 3 targets as well…
guardian’s sword is the max dps melee weapon (not considering burning)
warrior’s sword has acces to dual swords and is a purely condition based weapon revolving around bleeds, cripples ad immobizes (and in case of offhand more bleeds and torment)
mesmer’s sword is a dps weapon allowing for a short invulnerability on skill #2, reasonabe powerfull it’s the DPS melee weapon for mesmer offhand allows for a resonable powerull phantasm and has acces to 2 skills producing clones on succes

revenant’s swords are coupled to Shiro. and will be a DPS set.

Warrior and Mesmer can both equip dual sword and greatsword.

That makes them pure swordsman.

While warrior’s greatsword go physical attack, mesmer’s greatsword go energy attack (attack chain). So warrior will be more likely or best resembles a swordsman.

Just a friendly minder, you can play a pure swordsman as warrior but atm swordsman warrior isn’t very effective in PvP or WvW.

To avoid HoT spoilers I’ll be cryptic with not citing a source. To be a swordmaster one need to use a sword and a focus. So that means a guardian or a mesmer. Given the theme I would say guardian fits it best.

Id equate swordsman with someone who is lithe, dexterous and agile, a fencer almost.

The thief 1 hand sword, with either dagger or pistol off hand fits this aesthetic well, particularly when combined with a wide brimmed hat + feather. Very much the musketeer.

There is one thing maybe you could do and that is create a warrior and just use an outfit to give it the appearance of light armor, assuming you like any of the outfits.

A thief is a good one if you don’t mind using 1 sword (no 2h sword use) it’s medium armor though. My 2 thieves use twin daggers (both) and a short bow on one and twin pistols on the other. Not used the sword so don’t know how effective it is.

Reaper only has access to the Greatsword. It sounds like you’re looking for a duel wield class which folks above have pointed out as either Warrior, Mesmer or Revenant. If you don’t mind Sword/Dagger then Ranger and Thief are very mobile classes with that combo.

My vision of swordsman must be quick and agility, mobility and use nothing else but sword, no matter greatsword or dual sword.

A warrior with greatsword is similar to Gut in Berserk, a warrior, especially using berserk mode with 100 blades, very much the same spirit. Like Azala Yar said, a warrior in wedding outfit could be a good option.

But a mesmer with dual sword is very much another good choice which similar to Kirito.

Go ahead and test for yourself.

warrior GS is one of the most mobility weapon in the game. 2 movement skills and one of it got an evade. It has one of the most signature big damage channeling skill as well.

1hs got a short CD leap, a warrior with GS/1hs warhorn setup are well recognised one of the highest mobility in game. Warrior has a lot of ways to gain quickness, stance, trait and also the elite spec berserker mode.

But warrior do not have many evade skill thats true.

According to dictionary – a swordsman is:
1. a person who uses or is skilled in the use of a sword.
2. a fencer.
3. a soldier.

If we are speaking about SAO protagonist → japaneese origing → kenjutsu or other eastern interpretation of a swordfight.

SO! We have thief and mesmer in minus. Cause thief is a lot about fencer using rapier in main & dagger or pistol in off-hand and delightful to those, who prefer spain or italian style with bit of fantasy here and there. Mesmer utilizes alot of magic and plays rather with your mind then your sword – so not a good resemblense. Ranger represents mixed techniques and reminds more about shaoling part of the swordsmanship spectre (btw as a thief no dual sword either).

In conclusion – your best shot will be dual-sword wielding revenant or warrior with using one of the outfits (mad scientist or smth that suits you) that is not look like heavy armor. I would go for warrior – he is powerfull, easy and does not have strong connection to Tyria lore as Revenant do.

Frankly speaking besides Revenant we lack dual wied swordsmen here in Tyria of your type. Maybe cause dual wied swords of equal proportion is not that of evasive style in reality to begin with. Try Revenant then. Best bet and got pro-eastern resemblence in one of his modes (assassin ir smth).

Mesmer sounds most like what you’re after. However, I have zero familiarity with the character you are talking about so I can’t really comment on how much you could make your mesmer be like them.

Mesmer sword skill 2 kind of embodies a lot of what you’re talking about. You evade attacks while also striking your enemies.

The mesmer’s core mechanic is generating clones/phantasms and either shattering them or keeping them around to deal damage. This may not be in line with what you’re thinking of.

If it’s simply the heavy armor aspect of the revenant that is turning you off of it, keep in mind that not every armor set is huge and bulky. You can still look like a fast duelist, while actually being one. From a skill set standpoint, rev is probably what you’re looking for.

Here are some heavy armors that you can look at to see if any fit the swordsman you’re thinking of: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_male_heavy_armor
Keep in mind that stats don’t matter since you can transmute a skin to have whatever stats you currently have equipped. Also, you can hide pieces of armor, so if you don’t want your swordsman to be wearing a helmet, you can hide it while not taking any sort of stat loss.

There’s a reason people call this game Fashion Wars 2.

Kirito is NOTHING like a mesmer.

Well, apparently his race (Spriggan) in the fairy world is the most adept at illusion magic and also associated with “shadow”; so both thief and mesmer aren’t too abnormal.

I haven’t read any of the novel-like things/other source material, however.

I don’t know why I bothered to keep watching after the first half of the first season…

Try Chronomancer when Heart of Thorns comes out.

Go for illusionary reversion/sieze the moment shattering for high alacrity uptimes meaning more evades through blurred frenzy and distortion and burst in alacrity reduced cooldown mind wrack.

Though the damage wont be as high as a phantasm build, there’s nothing more satisfying than having your illusions act as arrows in your quiver rather than NPCs you have to escort.

If you talk about GGO then thief is the best bet… Main hand Sword, Offhand pistol (just like in GGO), plenty of evades (healing ability + backwards leap for initiative) shadowsteps etc…

Having loved the series and this game as well (owning all classes), thief is the class that summarizes better Kirito.

As for dual wielding swords with a nice dps, as stated before, then only Revenant and Mesmer. But i dont really see any resemblance among those classes and Kirito’s first season ultimate dual wielding skill…

  • A warrior with swords catches and wounds the enemy, running away will only hurt more.
  • A guardian with a sword has a bit more range, and can blind and block projectiles. And for some reason the autoattack ends in a projectile that can be reflected that doesn’t look like projectiles.
  • A ranger with a sword chases the enemy relentlessly, jumping and dodging.
  • A thief with a sword varies depending on the offhand:
    • With a dagger, they are more offensive and snare, move behind the target, steal boons and use more stealth.
    • With a pistol, they are more defensive. They stun and damage the enemy while evading hits and blinding them.
  • A mesmer with a sword uses misdirection to avoid damage, removes buffs while giving vulnerability.
  • A revenant with a sword works best by singling out enemies to take them down, by pulling them away from their allies and chilling them so they can’t run back before unleashing a nearly unavoidable flurry of hits at them.

mechanic wise, the revenant is the closest to Kirito’s style in my opinion.
If you choose mesmer, you’ll have clones as main mechanism. Not sure that’s what you’re looking for.
Thieves revolve around a mechanism in which sword is just one of many tools. It doesn’t really compliment the sword weilding type in particular.
I don’t know ranger.

But as for the looks, medium armors have tons of longcoats.

But you can also later try to get outfits so that you don’t look heavy with the revenant.

To me, aside from the heavy armor look, the revenant is the best candidate.
They are fast, they feel very fluid, and have very good mobility. Even if by any chance it’s not Kirito-like enough for you, they have pretty anime-ish vibe to them with their instant gap closer, and ichigo’s bankai like sword attacks.

Not mechanically. (No one has infinite guard cheaty powers.) Visually you’re looking for heavy armor and sword-and-shield, so guardian or warrior probably. Guardian’s got better blocks (or at least more of them in their skill set), but with lots of glowy stuff and blue fire. SAO is a low-magic setting after all, unlike GW2, so it may not be the visual you want.

Engies get shields, but the style is all wrong. Mesmer gets a shield as well in HoT, but they’re in light armor.
