Q:

Are there any anti-bot but player-friendly methods being looked at for the future?

It’s good and all to say “play as you want to play” but speed-runners (Still don’t get why they get DR?) and farmers are always feeling effects of DR for simply playing the game. We all know this doesn’t have an effect on bots. They farm until their code roasts itself alive, but us players are normal.

Will new methods be looked into on anti-bot measures that won’t encroach on enjoyment or differing play-styles for a portion of playerbase? Or does anyone have any good ideas they’d wanna toss out there?

I do hope they do something, it definitely feels like we are being punished because they cannot handle bots.

Don’t think its got anything to do with bots and more about the cash shop.

I hate DR with a passion. If I’d known about it I never would have bought the game.

First time I’ve encountered any such mechanic in any mmo/rpg I’ve played since ultima online came out 16 years ago.

I have seen similar loot mechanics in other MMO’s.. mainly aimed at dungeon speed runners where eventually after a chest or node etc is looted more than “X” times in a certain timeframe then loot gets either time locked or the player suffers a continual decay on their loot tables until eventually its empty for a period of time.. so not that much differnet to what ANET have dreamt up here.

As for their reasonings.. well yes it does slow down botters (a little maybe) but I would bet it more to steer players back to the TP to buy boosts etc.

At the end of the day this game is also a business and as such ANET need to protect or enhance their revenue streams accordingly, then again no one forces you to use the TP.

I consider it a positve move in some respects, the alternatives could be worse for the players .. look at SWTOR.. they have some nodes that as soon as 1 person loots it it is timered for everyon else for “X” amount of time… now that would make for an interesting read on the forums. I can already see the queues of players charging off to get to the next Ori node before the the rest of the crowd and hundreds of toons suddenly appearing at the WP nearest to nodes or events with chests etc.. comedy value.
In SWTOR players camp nodes and strap their alarm clocks to their ears just so they can log in and try to loot the node or suffer another 3,6,12, 24hrs wait

I think Anet is stuck between a rock and a hard spot right now. Gem sales are probably at an all time high do to item scarcity, but gold sellers are also hitting hard and offering more gold for your money. (so the ads say)

Either way they will never get another dollar from me until they remove DR’s and fix the drop rate. If I can’t have goals, I see no reason to just play to play.

Nothing to do with farming.

I hate farming, and don’t generally go out of my way looking for in-game wealth, but still receive so little I don’t bother paying to waypoint to dragon calls anymore.

I like to farm, put on some music, jump on TS and bs with people is relaxing casual play, but this game doesn’t allow that really. I love to raid, and do instances; however no raiding in this game and the instances that don’t include a metric ton of boring trash mobs are so stale now day’s.. I don’t even log in much anymore because I know what I am going to end up doing and I know it’s not going to be worth my time.

Though I think I need to log in some time before the 28th an switch servers, just in case by some miracle they fix the game I can pvp with my other guild when I am not farming.

The only feasible way at this stage, IMO, is to go old-school with anti-bot measures. It has a prooven trck record if done well.

DR may have been good in theory, but in practise it’s the legit players that are getting the short-end of the stick. Plus there is the speculation, that DR was not only introduced as an anti-botting measure (i.e. economy/TP “manipulation”).
