We know it comes back out ever now and again. Hubby and I got new accounts in Jan during the sale. Now hubby is… going through Royal Terrace withdraw. It’s a dangerous condition. He may never be the same if he never gets his new account in that Terrace, lol

(I’m also beginning to twitch)

I guess you can buy the 2 week ones until it comes out but I agree. That thing is addicting once you get it.

I thought it was a kind of dumb purchase before I got mine. Now when I want go back to a city to access its features, I don’t have to open up the map and look for a waypoint or pay to travel. Just open inventory, click on the pass and boom, I’m in DR right by everything I need. Very addicting. ^^

I’m afraid I just don’t understand the need for this item when other locations offer FREE access to all the needed stations (and can even return you to where you were previously….for FREE). Click WvW icon, Enter your Borderland (yes, might be a queue on certain nights). FREE access to everything you need and simply exit WvW for FREE return to wherever you were (or hop thru the portal for a FREE trip to LA). I’ve had and used several 2 week ones (rewards), but doing the WvW option just seemed better to me.

I guess is should be thankful that someone is funding the game by purchasing “convenience” items that make no sense.

Like you said, it’s a convenience item. If someone wants to go to a place with “one stop shopping” and no additional running around or portal load time, then this is it.

Myself, I buy $20 a month in gems to buy items. I refuse to buy the RNG items and I don’t have much use for the various boosters or finishers, so that pretty much leaves skins and convenience items like this. So far, I’ve been very pleased with it, in spite of thinking as you did, before purchase, that is was a kind of pointless. But I read others saying how much they liked theirs, and it went on sale with nothing else I wanted to buy with my $20 so, I bought it.

By the way, your argument about cost can be used for the copper fed salvage o matic or the gem store harvesting tools as the tools and the basic/fine kits can be bought with karma also, yet many people buy those items.

There is no single location as convenient as Royal Terrace. And no mystic forge.

  • Rata Sum offers equally close bank, TP, and guild bank, but crafting is further away.
  • Of PvE cities, only LA offers the mystic forge.
  • Borderlands require walking a long way around to reach all services. The mystic forge doesn’t always have a nearby waypoint (and in fact, sometimes it’s owned by the enemy). This doesn’t even address the queues and the possibility that you are interfering with your world’s WvW, either by forcing an active participant to queue or depriving them of an outnumbered bonus.
  • Heart of the Mists has only a bank and a vendor. No crafting, no mystic forge, no guild services.

In short, Royal Terrace is a lot more convenient. Is it worth 1,000 gems? At the peak in November, that would have cost under 200 gold (19g50s/100 gems). By comparison, the Mystic Forge conduit (which would turn Rata Sum into a nearly-as-convenient location) costs over 800g, the perma bank access is over 700 gold, and the merchant over 300 gold.

My wonder is… when the kick out from terrace is going to disapear?!…
Its more than a year and its still there… This just seems to be an amateur way to not let multiple characters benefit from the location.
It could be really that hard to read the inventory and check if you have the scroll in there?…

Well, avid crafters know this to be true. If you have the scroll, it’s lovely. When you don’t… running back to the Bank/TP, down to the crafting station, oops, I forgot something, ugh, BACK up to the bank, back down stairs (in DR).

We tend to get spoiled with the Terrace scroll, especially a persn like me, with short term memory issues, that by the time I forget something, go back to get it, come back down, it’s like, “…. duh, um… wait, what was I working on again?”
