Any point in me coming back if I hated HoT?
Nope. HoT is still in the game, so I don’t know what you expect the responses to be like. Fractals are amazing now however. Also this is an mmo so nothing but things intended for groups, yadda yadda yadda. Core tyria is extremely easy to solo. Maybe you’ll like the 3 new maps? Maybe you’ll be disappointed that you didn’t log in to get them for free, though. :/
Also BL chests and other chests have a preview of what they contain when you right click them now.
I should be clear. I like most of GW2, but just couldn’t get into the specific HoT map (that big jungle place – don’t recall the name). So if you can advance the new specs without that map, I’d be happy to come back.
If you want the Masteries you’ll still have to get them through HoT, they did crank it down slightly last April ( I believe that was the patch) but it still has multiple roaming high level NPC enemies. For what it’s worth I wasn’t a fan of HoT in the beginning and still don’t spend a lot of time there but it is more tolerable from that perspective. I would say give it a try (you already bought so what do you have to lose). I will say I like running Verdant Brink Meta when you find a group and Dragon Stand. They can be a pain with having to use Looking for Group (LFG) but it is what it is.
Big thing I would suggest is don’t stress over getting from point A to B but instead enjoy the ride in between……..
Good luck Jax!!

They did make it easier to move around solo, by reducing the mobs a bit. There are actually quite a lot of hero challenges that can be done solo, just communing. Do give it a try!
Also, if you WvW anything and have proofs of heroics – you can use them aswell!
requiring groups do get advanced class points.
Groups were never required to get the Elite Specialization unlocked, there are more than enough hero challenges to fully unlock an Elite Specialization without doing a single group challenge. You’d need to get a lot of points in Core Tyria for that to be possible but if you love Core Tyria that won’t be a problem.

Verdant Brink or Tangled Depths.
I don’t like those maps either, especially when achievement hunting. They have fun metas though.
I don’t know about Verdant Brink, but Tangled Depths often has LFG HP trains that you can join in on. They’re really fun little trains that can get all the hero points you need.
I don’t know man if you should come back or not. Why don’t ya login and see it for yourself insted of asking other players opinion who hasn’t left due to your problem?
Madness Rises [Rise] – Banners Hold.
Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
If you are only interested in getting your elite spec, you can get the HP’s in WvW via:

…which are used to purchase:

You can’t advance the HoT masteries (notably gliding) except on the HoT maps. With good equipment (exotics from orr, ascended from laurel merchant) you can do that solo (events, exploring, story etc). Use all the xp boosts you can to make it go faster. You can still get into trouble and die, but that just makes it interesting.
If you hated the vertical design of HoT, that design did continue for season 3 episode 1, but episode 2 and 3 went back to the flatter style. You can probably get away with skipping HoT entirely, but you’re going to want to unlock gliding and jumping mushrooms, since they’re used outside of HoT. If you can manage it, doing several of the gold adventures would be enough to unlock leyline gliding and mushrooms.
HoT’s sales were poor, so you can bet that the next expansion will be quite different. HoT will also likely be nerfed, as the population continues to die out. They’ve already gone back to designing group content for 3+ with season 3, much like the core game, whereas HoT was designed for the zerg, which is now LFG or bust.
