Any tips for starting fractals?
Fail hard and learn from it. That’s my tip. Plus, start doing them with people you know. It’ll help with not being too discouraged if you actually do fail hard.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Doing them with your guild while learning them is good advice. If you PUG to learn, you run the risk of getting kicked when you make mistakes.
I mean its so easy, its like any other dungeon honestly, the only thing different is agony, and that really has nothing to do with learning any sort of fight mechanic, just start from the bottom, obtain relics to put infusions on yourself, and get yourself ascended armor to do the higher ones. Done.
Level up, get enough fractal relics to get 2 +5 infusion before you do lvl 10, and be very careful with your pristine relics and buy rings you need from them ever 10 you own @ BUY…. you can use a lvl 78 crafted back for the first infusion and a ring for the second, it ’ll allow you to progress till 19… after lvel 19 make sure you own an amulet and the second ring so you can add 2 more + 5 infusions, look into infusing rings and start making a fractals backpack, find a guild for guild missions, with full asc inf. rings, earrings youl have 35AR up it level, then make ascended weapons: kitten AR up to lvl 49, then make some armor/buy or make high end infusions aand get 60-70 AR for level 50, this will take at least 2 months doing 1 or more fractals a day…. GL
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
Since you asked especially for tips on fraclas:
- Start with fractals lvl 6. Anything beneath this level is deprieved of almost all mechanics that make out fractals. It doesn’t help if you learn that you can just rush a boss and at a higher lvl get kicked or insulted because there would’ve been something to prepate before engaging.
- Tell your group that you’re new / that you don’t know the mechanics of this fractal. Most groups are more willing to explain encounters and forgive mistakes if you tell them beforehand. They might even tell you how to get the achievements if there are any in that fractal.
- You don’t need those +1 Infusions any time soon. Just sell them.
- Buy the +5 Infusions at the fractal-lobby and get 10 agony resistance on your armor before attempting lvl 10 or higher.
- Don’t double-click the pristine fractal-relics. You can use 10 of them to buy ascended rings.
- Don’t forget to loot the big chest at the end of each fractal before pressing ready.
Of course these are only beginner-tips. Once you have infused rings and a backpack you might consider using the +1 Infusions and once you have enough ascended rings and need normal relics for the fractal-backpiece it makes sense to double-click a few pristine relics.
Tips for fractals?
1. Just join a pug at a low level
2. Watch vids on youtube if you get confused.
Fractals are easy and most people know how to do them these days that you’ll fly through.
I have been pugging fractals nightly since Jan. I can count on one hand how many haven’t completed in a reasonable time.
Starting fractals..
If you’re pugging it, try posting something in 1-9 like:
“LF: Exp player(s) to teach me fractals”
It never hurts to ask for help. Don’t be that guy who joins runs pretending you’re exp, not knowing what you’re doing and screwing things up. Thing’s go down hill FAST for exp-wannabe newbies, especially at higher lvls.
Always ask! This is important.
Ex: What does this boss do? What do we do for the next fight..? Are there certain skills i’m supposed to bring next? What weapons? How can I use my class and skill-set to supplement the team..?, etc..
^ Write this stuff down, and learn from what other people tell you. Some advice is bad, some is good. Learn from other peoples and your mistakes.
Always bring appropriate AR (Agony Ressistance) for tiers.
Tier 1: 1-10 – 0 AR
Tier 2: 11-20 – 10 AR
Tier 3: 21-30- 25 AR
Tier 4: 31-40 – 40 AR
Tier 5: 41-50 – 55 AR
Please note that the Required agony for the next tier starts at the lvl 10* interval. So you need 10 AR for Fractal lvl 10.
Even though FoTM(Fractals of the mist) lvl 10 is still Tier 1, it requires Tier 2 AR. Same for the others: 20,30,40,50. They require Next-tier AR, but give current tier rewards.
Also, Learning and KNOWING how to play your class is extremely beneficial in fractals. Some people have played their “Main” classes for half a year to over a year and yet still don’t know how to use them efficiently.
It’s not all about spamming skill 1, self-heal, evades in fractals. You need to take into account the general make up of your team.
Example team formation:
2 Warriors
1 Guardian
1 Ele
1 Thief.
^ Ask yourself:
Warriors:
Are the warriors running banners?
Does one of the warrior have Phalanx Strength setup?
Is this warrior a newb rifle/longbow camper? (kick this fool)
etc.
Guardian:
Is the guardian bringing reflects?
Does the guardian know how to use Aegis to block devastating boss hits?
Can the guardian mitigate damage to team?
Ele:
Blah blah
Thief:
Does the thief know how to blast fields?
Does the thief know how to stealth?
Is the thief camping Shortbow? or Pistol/Pistol(Kick P/P campers), S/P?
Does the Thief help the team by blinding trash mobs and mitigating damage?
Does the thief have fast reaction times, Quick to res a downed player?
So on and so forth.
I assume by your statement “I haven’t done much PvE in this game, I want to start doing more.”
That you are a WvW/PvP player. So you have somewhat good knowledge of how to play your class(es). Fractals is a team-oriented dungeon.
The best way to approach it is to set up for team play. How can you support/supplement your team while doing considerable damage and maintaining good survivability. Get ready for alot of trial-and-error. But the more prepared you are going in, the easier it will be for you in the long run.
Best of luck to you.
My advice: Do not join an LFG. Do it with a guild that you trust.
Newbies are generally not welcome in dungeons or fractals in this game, especially if their level is lower than 80 or they are undergeared.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.
/i’m a lesbiab… lesbiam… less bien… GIRLS/
My best advice is:
1. Have full exotic gear
2. Read about dungeon/fractal builds for your class and how it should be played
and most importantly:
3. Do what your party is doing! Stay near them at all times, join up when they stack, and pay attention to any instructions given. They may not always be right, but at least your group won’t be mad at you.
Good luck!
Don’t sweat the PUGs. Every one I’ve been in has been very patient and understanding that we all need to start somewhere. Ask for help or for them to explain what to do if you’re not sure; every fractal usually has its own mechanic you need to learn. It doesn’t take more that a couple minutes to explain at most.
First ignore most of the advice after he first couple. They’re not being helpful they’re being elitist. You don’t need to know anything about Agony at this point.
The best advice I can give is wait for Fractal Dailies. You will get the most PUGs of newbies and such running them. Just look for titles like for Daily, or all welcome. Most of them aren’t very difficult. All of them have some special circumstances. Let them know up front that you’re new to Fractals and haven’t done them before. Then just follow along and try to take note of what is happening in each section.
Don’t run over 9. Once you have a handle on them you should be good. Individual fractals are generally pretty easy. Some are more complicated and require groups to be more coordinated. The main thing with Fractals is that they’re longer than most dungeons now because you have to go through all four of them to get the reward.

Those are my 3 suggestions to anyone looking to do fractals.
Always bring appropriate AR (Agony Ressistance) for tiers.
1-9 – 0 AR
10-19 – 10 AR
20-29 – 25 AR
30-39 – 40 AR
40-49 – 55 AR
50 – 70 AR
Fixed that
Wait for reward track in spvp lol :P pr0 tip ever gave + 1

Not just about agony diffrent tier fractals have difrent fights = harder extra adds/skills deployed , try lvl 50 :P and compare to lvl 20
Awesome, thanks guys.
