I really don’t enjoy going out into the world and see it overrun with random people.

Like rats they swarm over mobs, dominate the landscape and inhibit immersion.

It is really killing my game buzz.

Is there a server free from this plague? Or is that it now? Done and dusted, as it were….game over.

You want to play an MMO with no other people in it? Why?

But regardless of your reasons it’s not an option, there’s no way to get a private map, but then there wasn’t before mega servers were introduced either. Maybe if you guest on a low population server it will help, but there will still be other people around. That’s kind of the point of a multi-player game.

Personally, i love seeing lots of people. Anyway, you can afk in a map: sooner or later you’ll be the only one there. It works in LA too.

They put in the Megaservers because of the numerous threads and posts complaining about empty maps. Posts about going to a map and only seeing a handful, at most, of other people there. While they might refine it, they aren’t going to remove it. It’s here to stay now.

Maybe you should look into some sort of lobby game, the type of game Guild Wars 1 is. You only see other people in cities. Otherwise the map is empty.

I don’t share the same opinion entirely with OP; but I like to solo open world quite a bit as well… not always, mind you, but often.

There are about 9 million memes about this, but this will answer your question on why:

So #5 is probably the biggest reason.

That’s why THIS soloer plays an expansive MMO (can’t speak for anyone else).

I find it strange that you would play an MMO and not want to see other players :\ I for one think the mega server system has been great, seeing people wherever I go makes the game feel more alive to me, and I haven’t found any area to be overcrowded.

Not ‘with no other people’. With reasonable amounts. Currently most events are overpopulated to the point you don’t even have to try to finish them. They just don’t scale for the new populations. It’s like running Queensdale train on EVERY event in the world.

Perhaps, you could peruse the forums, find those threads/post where persons have commented on how their map/zone/server is deserted, find out which server they are on, and transfer/guest there.

There seems to be two different experiences in the game….plenty of other players/no other players. (Both may be exaggerations.)

Good luck.

@paponzi. You want to play an MMO with no other people in it? Why?oponzi

The key terms are ‘overrun’ ‘swarm’ and ‘dominate’.

Some people are fine, masses swarming over the landscape, however, is not much fun and kills immersion for me.

There ya go. All clear?

I know snide remarks and ad hominem criticism is all the rage, but the question was fairly simple. I am not questioning other people’s taste, merely wondering if this is all there is these days.

Thanks.

Not in GW2 but a certain other Supposed MMO has many many empty servers ( WoW) and not going to be fixed anytime soon so you can play single player mode there all day long :-)

I’ve noticed this too, all events have tons of people or people camping them cinstantly, don’t really mind. Also chat is still toxic which is funny seeing how they killed the train in Queensdale because of chat etc but then put in megaservers so just as many people occupy the map and still say stuff in chat. I’m not sure if that’s what they wanted.

Your definition of swarmed is terribly exaggerated.

I’ve been roaming random maps (Queens, Malestrom, Plains of Ashford…etc…) and it is not at all swarmed.

Just today I was in Queensdale trying to see if new players needed help and almost every Dynamic Event I went to had 1-2 persons or just myself

Really? Just name one major MMO that hasn’t gone through server mergers or cross realm.

I said megaserver crap, not server mergin. They generally merge low populated servers together while megaserver crap merges every single server like it is needed.

As long as my beloved Archeage doesn’t have such idiotic system, I am happy anyways.

Server merges are still considered cross realm.

Did he/she mention playing another MMO? Pretty sure all that was said is that he/she isn’t playing GW2 anymore.
It may surprise you to know that some of us that have stopped or will stop playing GW2 – aren’t just going to jump on another game.

Right, so instead of playing another game you guys just log onto the Guild Wars 2 forums complaining for entertainment.

Do you normally resort to insults when someone calls you out for making a mistake?

Whether you believe it or not, many of us “complain” because we hope for improvement in a game we love or used to love. I personally don’t find it “entertaining” dealing with other forum posters like you. Its stress that I don’t need in my life.

It really does bother me when I’m doing something by myself perfectly fine and some noobs run over and upscale the event.

There are obvious benefits to the megaserver system but there are drawbacks too.

agree with this.

The only times that a zone is “’swarmed” from what I can tell are when a World Boss is up.

however, to answer the OP’s question in a civil manner:

The only way to avoid the Megaserver is to play WvW or sPVP. as far as I know, the megaserver is not in effect there.

but in the game world itself, PVE areas, they are all on the megaserver, and you cannot avoid it.

To OP:

I can understand that getting into an overcorwded event/map become boring quickly.

As other persons said, you cannot avoid the megaserver. However, even with the megaserver, there are places in the world that are not overcrowded :

- some maps are never overpopulated : Lornar’s pass, the south of blazeridge steppes, timberline falls, gendarran fields, snowden drifts among other maps are very nice places to roam.
- follow the world boss train during its travel from one location to an other. Once the train has dealt with the boss, simply stay on the same map.
eg. train finish the fire elemental and goes to the inquest golem MkII. Wait a little bit at the fire elemental then join mount maelstrom. You’ll end up in a shard generated to handle the train. Once the golem is dead, the train will move on to an other area and you’ll have a shard for yourself.
- afk at some place for a few hours (does not work in orr). Eventually the place will empty itself because of the megaserver optimizing population management.

They should allow us to select districts like we could in GW1.

That’s not going to fix the problem.

People are complaining that megaserver ruins their gameplay because the servers get full and their friends end up on separate servers.

Adding districts is still not going to fix this problem, because the only reason you and your friend is separated is because of the fact that the server is full. Basically, if there were districts it’s still a problem because district 1 would be full, and you would be stuck on district 2. This happened a lot on holiday events in Guild Wars classic.

If you were to add a district selection, the problem only gets worse. People will spam district 1, and you’ll end up with even more overcrowding than right now since the only way to join a full megaserver is to hope someone crashes and you right click a friend and hit join.

If you want a fix to this problem, all they need to do is add a queue system when attempting to join a full megaserver.
