Anybody else want Frozen Maw harder?
Sounds to me like you are a ranged player. Stand close to the boss from start to finish with melee weapon only. Then come back to this topic.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
Server dependent. When I first did this it was me and two others. It was so ridiculously tough. That was pretty much the way of it. Then I moved to a very populated server and was stunned to see 40 people there and it was over in 5 minutes. It’s supposed to scale based on people but with 40 people there nothing is really a challenge.
I think most, if not all events currently have a cap to the scaling. So like they will get harder for the first 10-20 people but that’s it.
The Frozen Maw is a lot more fun with less people. Once I 4-manned it with 3 other strangers, two of whom were melee and one got killed by going down in the middle of a blizzard. The rest of the battle then turned into the two other survivors kiting the boss around while I revived the 4th person while occasionally throwing Geysers and Healing Rain to help keep the others alive. Eventually I got the 4th up and we took on the boss again, taking him down through more careful tactics.
All of us agreed it was the most fun we ever had with that event.
When I was a young Norn back in the days, I thought the event was really tough. All floor was covered in red circles, insagibbing me. Now I can solo it. I am not sure if it was toned down, or if it is just changed for me.
Do not forget, it is a low level event. Not everyone is on his bazillion alt. But I wouldn’t mind ALL world events to be a fair lot harder…

This is the first big meta event a lot of players will see. It’s OK that it’s not Lupicus hard.
As a necro (80) it’s easily soloable. The shaman himself is much more difficult than his elemental form. The shaman is single target capable and ranged. The elemental form is single target melee capable but has a high damage aoe blowback. In either form, he’ll chase whoever has aggro. The shaman has 2 attacks, one multi projectile, and another with high damage fast DoT that you should probably dodge if you’re low on health or level. The elemetal has the aoe blowback every 20 seconds or so (remember that…) and a single target swipe that is high damage.
As a ranged attacker, you have an advantage in that you only have to be careful during his shaman phase, once he turns into the elemental, he’ll chase you, just stop, wait for him to get as close as he wants, and move backward about 5 steps and you’ll be out of his range for the rest of the fight. Take an additional step back for every time he does his AOE “HULK SMASH!” move and be careful of the AOE tornadoes, the single knockdown aoe circles aren’t an issue (they should be buffed).
PRO-TIP: If you have aggro and he downs multiple players, PULL HIM AWAY FROM THEM. I can res 2-3 downed players (depending on how down they are) before he does his Hulk Smash again, having him somewhere else is a boon to all players. His AOE smash has like a 400 range.
What I think would make it more challenging is if he would summon adds in his shaman form, make his guards a little tougher and add more of them, and add more portal summons faster.
It should scale to 30 players instead of what? 10? (as it is, you’re level 11 and the highest adds are 14). The more players there are the higher the levels should be and the more there should be. If there are 30 players, recently there have been at least that many at times, the levels of the adds should be around 16 (or whatever the red colored names would make them).
It’s a great event that could only get better, as it is the whole chain can be done in like 7-8 minutes from initial grawl incursion to chest spawn. Soloing it takes about 10 minutes and it starts back up in 25 minutes. The timer for portal takedown is 14 minutes, but even solo (as a staff/dd necro it takes longer) you’ll never hit the end of the timer for a failure event (you have to ask really hard for other players to wait if you want to see it fail – ever).
The problem lies with events scaling based on number of players participating. It’s fun with a small group, yeah, but a zerg can drain boss’ HP in a minute or two without even realizing what the event’s mechanics were.
later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”
It’s an event in a level 1-15 zone so no I wouldn’t want it harder. It’s the first big event most new people will see and it needs to be easy enough for beginners. Anything I do 100000 times becomes easy after a point, but I realize that some people are still new and learning the game that early in the zone.
I really don’t think Anet needs to start scaling up events in new player zones to cater to endgame players.
Dynamic scaling or not, it’s a new player zone, and odds are any actual new player there isn’t getting much of a slice of the pie anyway when it gets swarmed by endgame players.
And I will add that most of the Level 80s are there because it is easy, it is farmable, and it requires little effort. It isn’t about challenge at all. They won’t run up the hill and do Svanirs Bane simply because it has no chest.
I am in empty level 80 zones all the time, attempting events solo. If 80s want a challenge, go there. It is what they were designed for.

As a norn who grow up in the Wayfarer Foothills area I can tell you he is harder for level 15-20 characters. He’s easy now just because there are lots of level 80 characters in Wayfarer due to Flame and Frost content.

no most of the endgamers are there because the spawn time for this meta event is fast.
having more meta events in the same area would also work. the downtime is what I didnt like. I like more meta events in the game like this, especially in the low level zones which are the most boring part of the game (anything pre 70)

There should never be a lupicus hard Event in the Open World, just imagine the outcry in the forums about how A.Net hates casualplayers and all the “this is NOT fun” topics.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.

its the only large scale PvE we have, Why not make Dungeons super easy as well with that kind of logic?
The success, long term, of this game will be an influx of new players over the years. (along with a host of other things not needing mentioned)
New player zones and new player events have to consider a learning curve. They have to be gentler than content designed for endgame, experienced players. You cannot tailor that content to suit the challenges of fully equipped and experienced endgame players and retain a learning curve.
Players can grow into harder challenges. Its why the storyline has steps, it is why killing the huuuuge elemental in queensdale or Iceworm in Wayfarer can be killed by sneering fiercely at them.
Its also why my little war, upleveled to 80, got her lil butt handed to her, horribly, by the first young Karka she met. Not.. ready.
So, while I can see the reason high levels would want a better challenge, placing them into what are basically tutorial zones isn’t really a good idea.
GW1 had the best solution with HM. HM vanquishing noobie 4 man zones was certainly a challenge and very fun.
@Knighthonor.. how do you get “making dungeons super easy” out of this discussion?

Of course it was harder. take your elite skill off, put on the first couple of utility skills you had, limit yourself to a few trait points, and run it in level 15 blue armor and weapon with no shoulder armor and a bad hat. Then forget at least half of what you know about playing GW2. That’s who the event was designed for. That is who the event has to remain for.
Lol, and I agree, it was tough. Look at all those red circles!! Over 9000!
