I really like this game. I’ve made no secret about it, but the idea of limited time content, combined with bugs makes the game as frustrating as it is fun.
I’m not sure what the solution is, but three days into a two week patch is too late in my opinion for the event to be what its supposed to be.
Perhaps the two week cycle is just too rushed and it should be made longer. I, for one, would prefer avoiding a couple of days of frustration in order to get a working event.
Well outsourcing programmer – scripter work to cheap labor areas might seem like a money saving at first to some unexperienced managers, but in a long run? Not really…
This is the first release that has been in my opinion bad. That they can’t seem to find their footing on this one is frustrating true. I am sure that they will go over this to find out why.
I have still really enjoyed the vast majority of the releases and found them to be until now really minimally bugged.

They thought it was a ‘great’ idea to let the interns do the season 1 living story finale, well all the senior staff, made sure China/Asia release goes well…

This is the worst by far, but it’s not the first severely bugged living story patch either. Often it’s just stability, crashes and a few bugged achievements, but as time goes on, I find my frustration level going up.
I don’t remember any LS patch that didn’t come with 3-4 updates on the following day.

It is also perspective. The majority of games I played have had a fixed schedule for bug fixes. The game goes down for a half day. A bug is found the first day and you may get a fix the next with the game down for 2 hours. The chance is also good that the bug fix does not work so they wait until the beginning of the next week and then the game goes down for a half day. That the game does not go down at all amazes me, that there are bugs does not.
Alpha/beta testing? You mean, animal testing.

YES, op I agree.
I feel the living story was too rushed. I think it’s obvious, ArenaNet is having trouble keeping up sometimes. Two weeks is not enough to develop & test these things judging from all the disasters we’ve seen & heard about in the past year.
I’d rather have quality content every two months then mediocre content every two weeks.
If you want to see true “beta tester” pain, please go read some posts in the Mac beta client forum. They get neglected for waaaaaaay longer.
The lack of communication between the company and its player base is the real issue though. I don’t recall any lack of communication prior to this game releasing.
Back then, it was all hype!
Agreed. I can wait more to play stable content, but I don’t want to waste (limited) time trying to do the content which might work or not instead of playing old content which works (or bugs of which I’m already aware of).
This game is a lot different than other games. Most games release new content in expansion packs which come out every 6months+ or so and they have to deal with bugs every time they release one as well but with this game content comes out every 2 weeks and that’s the reason why you experience new bugs every 2 weeks. If GW2 only released content once or twice a year you wouldn’t be having this happen. Its the price you take for getting new content continuously rather than in one big package not that often. Its hard work. I for one look forward to new content to play every 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoy it and so think the price is worth it.
I love the concept of this last stage but obviously the implementation hasn’t gone off as they would have hoped. I can’t even imagine what happened to balls things up. I don’t think I’ve played a single MMO where there hasn’t been some sort of stuff up with an update/expansion. With the every two week thing Anet has going on here (which I don’t mind) it just more obvious.
edit: Doh!!! Cush beat me to it by a very long margin. Can’t even call it a ninja. Didn’t think it took me that long to type it out.
Fire up the Hyperbowl ma, we’re going to town!
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
What was frustrating about this latest living story update? Why do people keep making new threads about small stuff? Spend your time playing the game instead of whining on the forums about little nothings. If you expect any new content to be totally bug free, you are not a very smart person.

The problem is, that we get new buggy content ever two weeks. It is like buggy content gets replaced with buggy content. Instead of fixing content, we just get more of the same crap all the time.

By the same token, if Guild Wars 2 came out with content every 2 months, I’d have to deal with less bugs, but I also wouldn’t lost days out of the two weeks I have to experience it. Very few games give you content that disappears in a couple of weeks. This puts pressure on players.
Waiting for them to fix bugs puts extra pressure on players. It’s not really fair. If something doesn’t work right, does Anet give you extra time to complete achievements or get the content done? Extra time to farm the cores you need to change the color of your back piece?

There is no such thing as bug free software- it doesn’t exist
If you release content every 6 months you will still have bugs- that sometimes never gets fixed
We get new content more frequently and fixing the bugs on that is top priority for Anet- which is why we get hot fixes.

Not sure what you want exactly
you have normal bugs and bugs you notice constantly, Anet fixed bugs only a 1% wants fixed but obvious bugs are still in.
i fully know that nothing is bug free but it doesn’t excuse not fixing obvious bugs, it just shows they are not listening to the community.
It’s programing code. No matter how much you test it, there are always gonna be some bugs in it. Stop QQing already… you get urgent bug fixes for LS within a day… Some of you ppl are so… I rather not say it, because I will get another infraction for it
Meh Anet isnt the only company to do this, alot of games with interne access require updates. You just dont notice it as much as they arent constantly changing content.
An average LS event lasts 14 days.
It is the 4th day, that the knights are buggy.
On the first day, the whole event was buggy. So 13 days to finish the event, 3 of them it is already buggy. 10 days left to get it fixed, for having at least some chance where it works as intended.
It is program code. Maybe ANet should hire some more people who actually know how it works…

How is 3 days a day? This time it took 3 days. But the content is only here for 14 days. Some would say that’s about 20% of the time you have to experience it.

Sorry, but no. Bug fixing is far from Anet’s top priority.
There are bugs, in the permanent content, that go back to pre-launch. Go to the Game Bug section of the forum and see for yourself.
Releasing gem shop items and crappy LS content every 2 weeks is the only priority for Anet
Beta-tester? Try the mac-client for extra fun & joy. We’ve been beta-testing that thing since it launched! No decent support what-so-ever, endless bugs, updates on fixes you have to figure out for yourself AND in most cases not even a dev of community-response saying “we have seen your complaints and are looking in to it.” Most of our complaints and bugs go by unnoticed.
… so by al means try our buggy excuse for a client for “added fun”.

If anyone really believes that what Anet are releasing is untested then either you also believe they have the most skilled programmers the world has ever seen (and as a result these are the only bugs that ever occur). or you have never seen genuinely untested content.
The type of bugs that make it into the game are extremely minor and usually hard to trigger compared to what you’d expect in a genuine Alpha test.

That’s been my experience too. One of the major reasons I uninstalled a while back was due to this issue and I told them then like I will not PTR PTR PTR. There’s a reason why every major MMO out there uses this method, because it works.
Also, after this thread is gone I highly suspect it won’t be the last one on this subject. This tends to pop back up over and over, no one’s getting the message.
I do like the comments on the Asia market tho. I thought that was prudent. Makes me wonder if the CDI will go thru now or if it’s a delay.
I did the LS event on day 1. My first attempt it was bugged, but they patched it later to make it playable the same day and I got it..
Because of the way the content is live unless they had a test server with an NDA for new content where a large amount of players could test it without releasing spoilers there’s no way they could accurately test everything with the amount of players doing different things all at the same time.
Plus people would still leak spoilers most likely because they feel entitled to, so..
Personally I think they do pretty well with the LS patches and fixing the stuff that launches broken. So the knights didn’t drop loot for a day, who cares? You still were able to do the entire event and get the achievements/chest reward.
I’d rather have the ‘80%’ of content every two weeks, than wait for months on end for something new to do. Many people complain that there isn’t enough to do in the game as it is. When we had the six-week break over the holidays, I couldn’t wait for the next patch.
If the price of new content every two weeks is a few days of bugs, I am happy to pay that price. I’m not really looking forward to this upcoming ‘break’ in content releases.
You said it. I love the game and support it, but I will never forget all the nerfs, bugs, and changes they have gone through since release when the time comes. I’m getting really tired of Anet.

See, it’s not one or the other. It’s not wait two weeks or wait six months. It’s wait two weeks or wait maybe 3 weeks. Maybe a month.
The pace of the living world is hectic for me sometimes, and I can play often. I’m thinking for a lot of people, it’s too fast anyway. So why not take that extra week or two to fine tune the stuff?
I’m not saying come out with an expansion every year. I’m saying come out with a patch that works once a month. Once every three weeks.
Because people do leave games due to frustration. It’s a bad look.
The thing that gets me is the fact that they still have major flaws in the game since release – eg. the TP – not being able to sort by armour type/foods etc etc etc.
They obviously do not have enough resource working on the game. this is such a shame as, as much as I love the game, these things are starting to get me down and I can’t be the only one

Playing devils advocate for a moment if you expect player testing to be done under an NDA how do you know they don’t already do that? If it was all kept secret we’d never know.
Apart from, as you said, people would probably leak stuff, as seen in the ESO betas. (Not the most recent one, which was open, but the earlier ones.)
