Just curious if anyone out there has either

A) found the forums more entertaining as of late.
B) flat out quit playing.

I have not logged in for a couple days as it proves difficult to even play the game. Mostly due to not being able to run dungeons due to several things…

1) being not being able to find grps
2) not being able to complete a good majority of them upon finding a grp due to their difficulty.

To all the “fanboys”
~ i don’t honestly care if you can clear the content, some of us can’t and it is very frustrating.
~ I don’t honestly care about previous Guild Wars games and how the content was nor how much of a grind it was for some of the gear there.

^ both topics cleared, seems those are the most defense i have seen from most of the “fanboys” out there (usually falls into 1 of those 2 categories)

You say this like it’s a bad thing.

You don’t expect all games to be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator do you?

Some people actually enjoy a challenge, where would they go if everyone dumbed their games down?

I find it’s the opposite. I haven’t quit, I’ve just been too busy to play the last two days, but I’m eagerly waiting to jump back into the game the first chance I get.

And, while I find the forums entertaining, I really hate all the negativity that seems to be rampant here. The game does so many things right, but all some people can seem to do is moan and groan about a few hiccups, bugs or things that don’t go their way/meet their expectations. It gets really old.

Quitting in MMo terms generally means unsubbing. Guild Wars isn’t really something you quit, you just take a break. Eventually you will see something you like and login again, but you don’t have to actually do anything to “quit”.

My point is that if you aren’t happy, wait for things to get patched or new content to be released.

~ I don’t honestly care if you can’t find groups because I usually play with friends and or my guild.
~ I don’t honestly care if you can’t complete the dungeons because of their difficulty, personally I enjoy the challenge and it makes their completion feel much more satisfying.

As you can see I cleared both your topics with the same dismissal you used with other people’s arguments. I have to say it was much easier than I thought… No wonder it worked so well for you.

Unsubbing is no more final than uninstalling / not playing a game with no ongoing sub.

In both cases you can reverse the decision and gain access to the game / account again.

There is no monthly fee, you play the game or do something else with your time.

Dungeons are broken because the measures they took to discourage speed runs were more severe than intended. When rewards are appropriate for the difficulty there will be plenty of people running them. Until then the dungeons are only a tiny part of the game, not the point of the game itself. Do something else, even if “something else” does not involve GW2.

Your semantics is troubling.

I “quit” playing <insert sub-based game here> by canceling my CC, so does that mean I can no longer play that game?

Let me give you a hint: I just recently re-visited my CoH account and wouldn’t ya know, the same characters that I had left SEVEN years ago are still there!

No…I’m not quitting.

For your issues, I would consider joining a Dungeon clearing guild on your server. You can search for a guild here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds

As far as dungeon difficulty goes, may I recommend check out the GW2 Wiki and youtube video guides before attempting them? Those can really make what seems like an impossible encounter much more manageable.

You may also want to consider checking out the profession discussions on this forum for ideas on building a better, more efficient character that also suits your playstyle.

I hope that this post was informative and instructive.

Do these people go to football matches and say they think football is stupid in front of a thousand or more fans?

It would require quite a bit of courage to do that, since it requires being there in person and the potential that other people would be able to respond to your face.

Actually the equivalent would be sending an unsigned letter with no return address to every NFL team saying “you suck!”

I haven’t “quit”; but I have a few rl friends that have.

One said he would return when rewards are equal to risk. Another said he wouldn’t bother, it wasn’t for him. But then, he loves WoW and the game play there. He’s a number cruncher and getting the .02% increase is the “ooh and ahh”.
A third said she might play again in a few months to see if Anet undoes a few things, and adds better looking player armor that doesn’t take months to get. And the last person said he has no interest with the direction Anet seems to be taking it.

Still have my guild though… so \o/

A)Yes and No. I like the forums. I’ve gotten much infor here that I haven’t from Anet directly. For example the rollbacks., bugs, dimishing rewards, etc. I don’t enjoy the fanboys and trolls. There are too many here. Look at this post. I am actually the fist one to answer what you asked. Also I think the moderators have gone a little crazy with locking posts. Just MHO.

B) Didn’t quit yet. I did seriously rethink how much game time I will invest given the in game problems. Like the Karma crafting, and loot treadmill. XP I don’t feel is grindy. I’ll probably just log in now and then and do a few events to kill time.

1) the whole dungeon token/Karma treadmill has put me off. so I haven’t been trying. Since I won’t be putting in the time I originally planned, I’ll likely just play alone.

I’ll do this, likely find somewhere good to farm @ 80 so I can buy whatever I need (possibly craft too as I’m currently selling it all – which is why I hit 4g before I hit level 30) and get full world exploration. On top of that I’ll WvW extensively.

I’ll certainly get my money’s worth, but I accept that an MMO immediately after release has limited “end-game” content. But given the amount of maps for each level bracket, coupled with the fact that you can sell on the trading post from anywhere with a couple of mouse clicks and the fact that I intent to get map completion anyway so I intend to go through all the maps, means I have loads to do without having to worry about getting to 80.

It’s only WvW which I am really limited in. I want to be a natural level 80 for WvW, but for the most of the rest I will have my level scaled down anyway. There’s too much content for that not to be the case if you aim for 100% map completion.

Heres an idea, how about different people have different pacing.

I never said it was a bad thing. If that’s what you want to do then do it.

But you need to accept that if you want to go through content quickly you should check how much content is available before you make a purchase.

Surely if you know this is how you play you would consider the amount of content a deal-breaker and would have at least looked into it?

An MMO immediately after release does not sound like the ideal purchase for you. MMOs almost always add end-game content over time or increase the amount of progression available over time, if the amount of content is what matters to you there are many MMOs which have been out a few years which have amassed lots of content.

But they all started off smaller. And playing an MMO in the beginning of its lifecycle will always be like that; even with dynamic events and never-ending WvW there’s only so much content they have had time to create so far.

2) Have played a total of about 10 mins total in the last 3 days. The anti farm script, DR on DEs, dungeon caps, and Fort Alpine have completely killed any motivation, interest, long term goals, and fun that I had for the game. Gonna keep plucking around the forums until the next patch (monday) to see if things change for the better before giving the finger and moving on for a while.

In answer to the OP I have stopped playing for now. Enjoyed the leveling to some degree although i have found the mechanics to this games combat not massively to my taste. got an elementalist to 80 leveling was fun and easy IMO. I think the thing that has stopped me playing this for now is that for me its abit of a shallow experience and i think i prefer something with more depth. I guess I expected the game to open up more when i hit 80 but soon realised that I would be doing nothing new and I prefer something more. Im still checking the forums though to see if there are any changes or anything new coming and prob will do for a while. I think this game is more for the casual player rather than someone who seeks real depth from a game. And before im alittle flamed as that seems to be the trend on these forums, im not bashing the game im just saying its not for me. Will the game survive? of course it will its a fantastic looking smoothe game with alot to do. its just more achievment unlocking than it is progression based and thats not to every players taste.

I haven’t quit, but my eyes have been wandering. Looking forward to MoP, Lotro’s expansion, Rift’s expansion, a few other games, Age of Wushu and so on. I like GW2, but once you hit 80, and hit 100% map completion, my goals have diminished like crazy. I still hop in to do sPVP and maybe get a level or 2 on some alts, but overall, I feel like I’ve seen all I need to see. Dungeons are so so for me. I just don’t like the challenge not being rewarded. The money and loot from in the dungeon itself is pitiful. As well as having to grind 60 times for a full set…I just don’t dungeon grind, never have. I’m always a 1 or 2 run and done player. Difficulty wise…yeah they could be tweaked, but is it even worth it then with such a horrible reward/loot system? I don’t think it is personally.

Much like Lotro, I’m now waiting for updates and for the personal story to have more chapters. Looks like GW2s endgame is it’s major weakness after all. Ah well, it at least joins a growing rank of other games with the same problem.

It’s good to see you realize that, the problems are being caused by people who can’t get past the “I don’t like the game you guys made, change it now!” attitude many forum posters have.

The truth is, as a non-subscription game, the piles of money they made (and will make) from the box sales represents the majority of cash the game will bring in. Sales from the cash shop may help pay the day-to-day maintainance but the bulk of the profit comes from boxes. They’ve already made enough to guarantee an expansion and even advertised on the site that they are hiring.

So, if you don’t like the game, it’s no big deal. I’ve bought games that turned out to be duds, many times. I don’t go to their websites and yell at the devs because they made a game that isn’t to my tastes. I just learn from the experience and have become more careful about how I spend my money. I know that I don’t usually like modern-era games or FPS games, so when I read something like “Kill’em All is an action-packed first person shooter set in modern day Afghanistan…” Then I already know that I won’t like the game so I don’t buy it.

Some of you bought the game expecting WoW in a different wrapper. It’s not, and it’s not going to be that game. If it’s time to move on, move on, and learn from the experience. Don’t act like we’re stupid or Arenanet is incompetent because they did something different and you didn’t expect it.

FYI WoW does not offer unlimited progression. Due to how long it’s been since WoW was released they may have more content, but you would still burn through it all if you played long enough.

And I suspect once GW2 has been out as long as WoW it will have more content too.

Here is my opinion:

I haven’t been playing as much lately due to quite a lot of things going on. I check these forums every day to see if there have been any updates but I’m always disappointed. Every update is ALWAYS lacking any fixes to the number of broken classes or events. Elementalists are still near unplayable (same for necros). But if that wasn’t bad enough, coupled with not hearing a word about it since release, we have Anet only “fixing” things that either don’t require any attention until these HUGE problems are fixed or they are over-reacting to these very small problems and destroying some part of the game (speed runs = super nerf to rewards and boost in “challenge”). I get the feeling that Anet REALLY loves GW2, but in a bad way. They seem to have stopped caring what makes a game fun and what their player base wants just so they keep it in line with what they wanted, even though that is just pissing off a LARGE chunk of players.

I love GW2 but I wish I hadn’t ever played it as it has ruined every other MMO out there for me. For now I’ll stick to Torchlight 2 until, at the very LEAST, the elementalist is fixed.

I love GW2 but I wish I hadn’t ever played it as it has ruined every other MMO out there for me. For now I’ll stick to Torchlight 2 until, at the very LEAST, the elementalist is fixed.

What makes a game fun for you makes it terrible for a lot of us, and the WoWites are by no stretch of the imagination a majority of GW2’s players.

We don’t want to see GW2 turn into the very game it was intended to defy the existing conventions of, because it would be a spit in the face to the majority of the game’s players. Thankfully, ANet knows this.

not quitting, but starting to feel a bit annoyed at some stuff.

1. no real ranged option on a guardian
2. some profes having 33% passive move speed so are stupidly hard to catch and kill
3. insane WvWvW queues…..mainly a result of Anet increaseing server capacity but no WvWvW hardcaps.
4. Lack of events. Spent 2 hours in fields of ruin…..1 event worked and another one bugged…..
5. No LFG. for a game to lauch without this is astounding nowadays and its a sorely missing feature.
6. no balance, 13k hits are not balanced, its a nukefest rather than skill at times.

Still playing, and will continue, the good outweights the bad, but am starting to get a bit annoyed that all the bad things spotted in beta appear to still be in game.

See, you are the reason no real conversation or debate can go on in the forums. Why did you say “WoWites”? I have NEVER played WoW and I never intend to. And who is “we”? It most certainly is not the majority of players (at least those that are on the forums) as is obvious. I’m pretty sure at the end I mentioned that I love GW2 and that it ruined other MMOs for me. Now, to be fair, maybe I didn’t make it clear. I find GW2 to be a lot of fun WHEN WORKING CORRECTLY. But I don’t want to play this game when I can’t play as my favorite class and survive in end game content. Just head on over to the elementalist forums and take a look.

And why the hell is everyone so tied up in “defying the existing conventions”? What is so great about defying conventions if it just makes it less fun? I’m glad they are breaking the mold in a lot of ways. It has truly enlightened me on what can be accomplished if a company takes a risk. But there are conventions for a reason. Everyone always throws that word around like it is bad. To be a convention means that a lot of people like it (maybe even the VAST majority)… you know what… I don’t actually want to keep defending myself to you.

The next time you want to attack someone else please provide points. Your post is just an attack on me that bears no weight because you only made a lot of claims with no premises. I can’t even call that an invalid argument because there is no argument.

@Daedalus, just don’t respond to that guy. A simple look through his thread responses clearly shows he’s got nothing constructive to say to anyone that doesn’t share his opinion and merely argues for the sake of arguing.

Alot of people like Justin Beiber too, but that doesn’t make him a good artist. Alot of people liking a game doesn’t make it a good product, you have to look at the underlying reasons why something is popular. One of the biggest reason’s WoW is so popular is its ability to run well on extremely low-end machines. It appeals to the lowest common denominator hardware-wise and draws in the biggest possible crowd because of it.

Trust that many of us coming from WoW left it for the very reasons people are complaining about this game. End-game progression raiding for us is a sham and a poor excuse for “end game content”. I’m sorry, but I have to laugh everytime I hear someone talk about how there’s nothing to do but do events over and over and over and why isn’t there end-game raiding. It’s like they completely fail to see the irony in that statement.

No, I don’t want to be given 3 raiding dungeons that I have to run over and over and over to “progress”, which by “progress” i mean stand around in the capital city for 6 months waiting on the next major patch or expansion so I can run 3 new dungeons that make every dungeon before it and all the gear I worked for completely obsolete. There is a market for people like us, and that’s why we’re here.

@Daedalus: I’m playing endgame content on my elementalist just fine. And my friend is owning so hard in spvp with his necro that I can’t even get him to run some explorables with me.

But you’re right. The forums are saying that elementalists just die all the time… Hm, maybe I’m playing the class wrong. I’ll try and read up on the forums to see if I can fail harder.

As a Guild Wars 1 player, I really dislike most of this game. If I wanted to play another EQ clone, I’ll just play World of Warcraft.

Reasons for quitting,
1. Weapon Swapping. ( Really miss the load up your skills in town and that’s all you get. If I want to use a Tormented Shield and a Chaos Axe on my Monk I could…)

2. Monk went bye bye Guardian is like a magic warrior with Monk skill names.. I died inside when I saw “Save yourselves” on the guardian…)

3. Removal of Henchmen and Heroes, Really loved running around with my own little possy. If you couldn’t find all 8 for a mission you could bring a hero and do it NP.

4.Removal of Vanquishing, really loved that idea.

5. Charr…. You spend the first quarter of your Guild Wars 1 career learning to hate the Charr. I have the Gwen mentality when it comes to these mongols.

6. I was really excited that an EQ clone wasn’t going to have Tank-Heals-DPS, but once I tried it out it felt really really really awkward. Dungeons in GW2 feels like that awkward moment when your tank and healer dies and the boss is just running around destroying your group as you frantically try to run away!

So needless to say, after a year break, I’m going back to the best MMO on the market. World of Warcraft. Panda’s here I come
