“The goal is to more accurately reflect the attributes you should have at that level for a similarly geared character. While this will make some areas harder, our goal is to make all areas of Guild Wars 2 exciting and fun for players of any level.”

I was reading that, and it seemed sort of confusing. The whole premise seemed to be that things would get harder, and then this sounds much more subtle. Then I remembered those times now and again it would seem like a place was actually harder when I went back downscaled, and wondered if that was what this meant.

Has anyone actually gone back to lower level areas, and noticed much change? Do they seem identical to level-appropriate areas now? Less easy but still easier? Inexplicably more difficult than they were pre-80?

Unnoticeable?

I am always in different zones, low level, mid level etc. It seems to be a tiny bit harder, but nothing to get overly excited about.

It isn’t a cakewalk and it does seem to be more appropriate for the level. I can’t 1 shot stuff with my ranger now at level 4.

How come you never go back to the other zones? I’m always in Charr zones it seems looking for chili peppers…..

I am also constantly in other zones and it seems better to me- before I was kind of overpowered and now I don’t feel like that anymore.
It is not hard as such just more balanced so I don’t feel bad helping out friends that just started playing- I feel like I’m helping now rather than just tagging along explaining things.

I’ve never found much point in it for the most part… don’t need anything there, get bad loot/rewards compared to lvl80 zones, and aside from the really early ones there’d be like me and a handful of people in the whole area (and I’ve seen the early ones so many times already that in that case I may as well go to 80’s instead). Walking around the map holding the hands of various inept NPCs as they repeatedly fail at life is only interesting for so long. Especially since no matter how many of their problems I solve, 5 minutes later they’re face down on the floor again and nothing has changed. :|

The only ones I go back to tend to be the later zones with Flame Legion, since they’re my favourite enemy and don’t actually exist at the end. Killing undead, purple crabs, or walking ice-cube monsters gets dull after a while…

ESPECIALLY purple crabs. I swear I can spend what feels like half an hour fighting 1 of the large karkas on my warrior. They have so much health that if I’m fighting one and another one comes along I’ll just be like ‘lolnope…’ and walk away rather than commit to such a long fight with all their jumping/rolling attacks to deal with, and nothing even coming of it.

Though the little ones are almost worth fighting just because of how often they use their super-strong ranged attack, because I reflect it back at them and laugh as they commit suicide or kill each other…

Was it really THAT overpowered?

I´m a slow leveler and have just managed to get near 80. I´d actually like to finally be “overpowerd” in this game, when I´m max level.
Especially as it´s usually pretty frikken empty and I end up doing stuff alone that´s clearly meant for a number of people.

To me that means even less incentive to risk my expensive gear, or are the loot drops actually working as promised now?

I noticed a large difference. I run typical dungeon build on my ele. Used to go back to charr lands to feel overpowered while waiting for an AC grp. Now I find the xmall events much harder for my char. I actually find orr easier than a level 1 – 15 zone… Funny eh :/

I’m curious, does this new change happen in dungeons as well?

I tried my first one last night (i’m not much of a dungeon type), AC, and everyone was over the level for it, with a few 80’s as well.

Well, things went rather poorly, to say the least, and we didnt finish. The warrior was saying how he had never wiped on the spider queen in X amount of attempts amongst other things i over heard. Essentially these folks had been here before.

I’m wondering if this level scaling had an effect, as i thought maybe they were over talking themselves.

Was not a good 1st run in a dungeon for me, but i’m going to give it another go this weekend

well i don’t like the level scaling… the gears we get it’s fun to see how strong it is, and having to feel like god. i don’t see why to go different areas to have fun.. you can stay in 1 hard level and to have fun.
SO level scaling for me it’s bad idea.

It’s a lot better. Not perfect, but at least there’s no more one or 2 shots.

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc

Well, in full exotics I don’t feel the difference on my warrior.

On the other hand I was two-shoting mobs even on low-levels >_>

My Ele still 1-3 shots foes with her D/D build before and after update. AC on the other hand, not one group could make it to Kohler, or if they skipped Kohler, like in route 1, couldn’t even down all 6 burrows for hodgins. I even did a lot less damage to the spider queen. I felt like a GW 1 Ele in Hard Mode all over again.

I hadn’t even thought of dungeons… that sounds annoying. AC in particular always felt like it was balanced around you being lvl 80 and scaled down, rather than actually level appropriate. I can imagine a lot of the random groups that one or two of us have managed to just barely drag through the dungeon would be better off abandoned if it’s one of those things where scaling down actually turns your stats/abilities into worse versions of what they were at that level.

I’m experience in AC and CM though only so I’m just like a pug in all the others.

I might need to find a good dungeon guild or find expert teams in LA overflow as my RP guild is too small for this stuff.
