Anyone else crushed by the precursor dump?
I spent 70g on the precursor for The Moot, which was one of the least expensive precursors my profession can use. I think I was justified in believing, based on market trends, that the price would only continue to skyrocket.
This is almost certainly why it was done, I know it sucks for all the people that spent silly money (in-game and real-life) on them but the inflation on pre-cursor weapons is completely out of control and something needed to be done about it before it got even worse.
It’s like buying that new car you’ve worked your butt off to earn, and finding out the teenager next door paid 20% of what you did for the same thing.
You seriously need to redefine your sense of self worth as a human being.
Crushed?
Nope. First and foremost: This is a computer game. Last week I might have cared a little, while not being “crushed” but post ascended… Not worth thinking about.
For all we know, we might get a chance of a legendary from the next round of “Lucky Dip Lion Keys” available for a new low/discounted price in the gem store.
Hey OP, I was doing the same thing you did weeks again. I used the first 40g I earn to buy the Energizer so that I can start a legendary crafting game that is affordable and not an off-hand and underwater. The plan went well and it only needed some Karma and a run on temple of Balthazar. Not until last week I read the news of Anet regarding to precursors. I am not smart but it was almost written in simple English that they are going to make precursors so cheap that everyone want one could have one. So I painfully discarded my Moot plan and sold my Energizer on last Wednesdays for 70g (hope that wasn’t the one you brought). When I went out and talked to someone on map, they all told me to think again and kept stating that it will only be “easier” not “easy”. And just a weekend later, I buy my Energizer back and a Leaf of Kudzu even I have completely bad luck on chest as always. I try to bid Dawn and Dusk, but not fast enough before those manipulators come back. The dump is not exactly what I expected but it still works for me. Now I have 2 precursors, one for my ranger and one for my warrior. They will keep me busy for months and I don’t need to worry about precursor for short time.
Here are some of my opinions: 1) This isn’t gonna hurt or stop most of the manipulators. Indeed, they just have the chance to buy more while cheap and make even more profit. Crush like this only hurt the normal players like OP who have no controlling power over the price but willing to commit to the cause. 2) Maybe I just don’t play enough MMORPGs. I never know any dev that won’t make the content easy when some of their paying customers complain it is too hard, even if those content are meant to be hard. 3) To sum it up, the precursor will slowly rise back because there are still manipulators, supply are still not catching up demand and the amount of available precursor are few enough to be cornered. And it will crush again by dev by many means. Anyway, legendary crafters are likely to be good paying and staying customers. They need them more than anything else in this hard time. However, it won’t be their top priority now since they are very busy now dealing the other matters.
Hey, at least you got your precursor. I got 2 crappy exotics that are worth less than 50silver in the trading post. I salvaged them because their upgrades were more useful.

Lost Kitten chest.
I do think it disrespects a player’s time when a game company basically hands out something that was hard to get with almost no warning.
I honestly do not think ArenaNet intended for the event to give that many precursors. Whether they admit it or not, I bet it was unintended. In the long run it does not solve how difficult precursors are to obtain and the reward seems out of sync with thievery they’ve done for rewards in the past.
Did it occur to anyone else that Anet didn’t even do anything regarding precursors, but merely set it to always drop 2 exotics?
That right there is a HUGE part of the rarity of precursors – you have to get a weapon, that is exotic, and then it has to be a precursor. By setting most of it in stone, the effective drop rate is increased.
I sincerely doubt anything was done specifically about one item type. But when hundreds of exotics are dropped, there are going to be a couple precursors in there.
When I first got to 80 I bought Runes of Adventurer because they had a 100% endurance on heal ability. That got nerfed to 50% the next patch. A couple weeks ago I saved up 5 gold to buy the guild back slot and now you can get the same one for 8s from Black Lion because they drop like candy in FOTM.
Dems the breaks. You gambled and lost.
I hear ya man. I could use a precursor or would have had one if i made it to endf of event.
Crushed? Over a computer game? I think that is a drastic overreaction.
I would be crushed if one of my 4 sons got leukemia, I would be crushed if something happened to my wife, I would be crushed if something happened to my family or my wife’s family.
If you are crushed over spending some in game gold, then it might be time to step back and see how invested you are into the game. You might have some addiction/dependance issues that go deeper then a decision by a game company.

I can only say this:
You thought the cost of precursors were so out of whack that you had to borrow money and other silly things to secure yourself one that you really didn’t even want.
So now that they fixed it to a temporary influx of them (They are still stupid expensive.) you are upset at that turn of events?
That’s pretty darn selfish don’t you think? You should be happy. Now you can get a second one. The one you REALLY want.
They still need a fix. It’s still stupidly expensive and not because of any reason other than a bottleneck controlled by a select few of people or a stingy as heck RNG gamble.
Nope. I think it’s great when players experience reward for playing a game. (BTW, I didn’t get one.) And, more supply should mean lower prices. I think it was great to drop precursors as part of the event and am glad Anet is refining their concept of reward for play.
I hadn’t thought of this as being a problem but it definitely is. RNG has never been a good system for drops in games especially with something like this. I feel your pain because of the opposite reason. Now since they’ve been playing with the drop rates for a month now and left DR in the game despite not needing it due to detecting bots more effectively, I can’t gear my alts.
Only one of my characters has half his exotic gear.
Why you ask? Well it’s due directly to their playing with drop rates, messing with MF so it doesn’t work and it’s pointless to have, and keeping DR in open world environments. They’ve done all this I suspect to make people run dungeons more, buy gems to convert to gold.
It’s backfiring because now most of us can’t get a single rare to drop, and if by some miracle it does occur, we get none of the mats we need not even a single glob of ectoplasm drops even while using the black lion store salvage kits.
It’s gotten absolutely ridiculous. They want us to pay for character slots, fine, they want us to pay for bank slots, fine, but we should not have to use RL money to get the items we need to gear our characters.
Racial, guild, globs should not cost RL money to obtain. That’s unacceptable and until they change it they will be receiving more complaints.
I feel your pain, I would be mad as a badger in heat on wednesday if that happened to me.

You might want to read the piece on the site by the economist hired to control the economy. But, the short answer around prices would be drop rates. If an item drops more commonly it will assume a lower price in the TP. This isn’t a free-market. Anet controls the mechanisms for manipulating and controlling the economy and employs them to create a stable (the goal, not always the reality) economy. There are free market forces in play but this is anything but a free market. BTW, I don’t believe this is a negative, rather it is a good thing in a game.

Most of us are not made of gold. Just because you buy from a third party seller doesn’t mean we all do. I am not talking about the gem vs Gold store, because the Gems are not worth the little bit of gold you get back, from buying a lot of gems.
I know I bought gems and traded for gold, the trade out is far to low on gold vs the amount of gems you bought most people do not know this because they got their huge amounts of gold from a seller, right off the bat.
So buying out, say 200-350+ per, worth in gold and there is only 20 available of 1 type of precursor you want, that comes to 4000 gold-7000 gold. The 4000-7000 gold looks like a gold sellers amount.
So basicly in order to get the Legendary faster you HAVE TO BUY FROM A GOLD SELLER. And people wonder why the TP prices of items are so high do to other players buying from gold sellers, and if you want to adjust the market you have to buy from a gold seller when it was the gold sellers/buyers that messed the market up in the first place.
So the option of buying out a certain product in the market, and udercutting to bring the price of things down is out of the question for the players that earn gold legitly.
You made a gamble, based on current information that you would profit further down the line… things change ALL the time, people make the same gamble in real life EVERY day and some win.. some lose
It’s down to you and the choice you made.
Yes It is not okay that precursors were included in the karka chest !
Especially when:
Some players with countless trial accounts (from various sources , not only friend invites) and multibox setups could farm precursors indefinitely. How is it right and not exploit?
Don’t tell me that they had to invest the whole 3 hours to get to the chest because it took as much time as reloging to the next overflow coming up to the chest.
Can you imagine how many won a fortune? Is this fair ? These are not 1 gold worth items.
We ca not trust Arenanet – no more , W can not trust market trends.
The future of this game, economy and developers actions is a dark mystery.
And I don’t know if I want to be a part of this anymore – if things like this causing only pain and frustration happen to continue and ArenaNet continue to treat us not serious – I’m sure majority of serious player will leave this chaotic place.
Hundreds of precursors were dumped into the market? I dn’t know about that- a few people got one, but not the massive number you seem to be thinking.
Its just a game, life moves forward, and guess what? There will be new legendaries, probably even more legendary coming down the line. Maybe even for Christmas? Would that crush you if a new legendary arrived for your class that was even more appealing?

You could have done the same thing if that really disturbed you so much. Or I think you could have reported people who were abusing the game.

I didn’t like the event for many of the same reasons as you. But the thing is, in pretty much every MMO that has ever existed, the highest priced items inevitably become cheaper as time goes on and the game advances. That’s going to be the case for Legendary weapons, Orichalcum, Tier 3 exotic gear, etc… as inflation occurs and new equipment is added. You can see it happening now with certain lodestones since they’ve been added to the rewards in the new dungeons, and everybody is spamming it because it’s new content.
Just try not to invest in anything too heavily before an update. It’s pretty much every MMO’s rule of thumb. At least you still have a Precursor, which last I checked, is still pretty impressive!

Are you serious, lack of imagination or just trolling? I don’t know. It seems that you have no idea what are we talking about here.
And we don’t care for your family just so you know….
