Anyone else never play GW1?
Then you should understand your position here on these forums.
gw1 is full of lore characters and events that is entwined with the curent gw2
In short gw1players will enjoy some small parts of gw2 when you encounter something that is relative to gw1. As they have more fond memories conected wit the monuments, places, creatures, beings, and objects
like seeing ogden stonehealer the last known living dwarf. Gw1 players are able to play along side with him.
or encountering grawls praying to the statue of human god of war balthazar (grawls named it badazar)
In gw1 you used to walk pass this statur countless times in ascalon presesring as well as post searing.
or glinth the friendly cristal dragon…so many memories and stories about her that gw2 players will never experience in gw2
Yeah me. Don’t worry about not understanding what people who played that otger game are saying. It’s the same as people bringing up examples from WoW. Noone besides the people who played those games know what the hell they’re talking about, but it’s not very important for GW2, because you know…Different games. “In GW/WoW you had x mechanic”. Okay that’s nice, in this game we don’t.
I played GW1 when it was new and I absolutely hated it. I thought it was going to be an MMO but it was instanced and small and reminded me of a bootleg diablo 2 so I tossed it. I picked up GW2 not even remembering was GW1 was, but now that im so addicted to GW2 and not an kitten I want to play GW1 again. I actually have it sitting next to me im gonna reinstall eventually
I also despised Guild Wars 1 when it came out. Didn’t get much further than post-Searing. The ironic part, after Guild Wars 2, is I went back and tried again.
I’m going to admit, at times and even with heroes, I dislike the game. But I do enjoy how the little things now make more sense in Guild Wars 2.
But they are two very different games.
I started playing GW1 about 8 months ago. I play it in bursts when I feel like it, towards the general goal of getting HoM points.
It definitely does enhance your experience of GW2 to have played both, since you pick up on all sorts of lore and references you wouldn’t otherwise have noticed. And the way they’ve done some of those things can be pretty cool. Notably in some of the recent LS chapters, but often just in the open world.
When GW1 players start waxing lyrical about the gameplay/mechanics/builds/etc of GW1, though, things are open to disagreement. While it does play well for a game of its age, I massively prefer how almost everything is done in GW2.
GW1 doesnt matter, it was a different game with a different audience.
Mmos are about gameplay, in fact the first thing mmorpgs throw out of the window compared to regular rpgs is immersion.
GW1 doesnt matter
speak for yourself
for me the current dragon lore is an utter bullkitten, so cliche and unentertaining.
however I enjoy those small immersive things, connections to gw1 and dialogs and characters I can understand because I played the first game.
I think it’s good that GW2 can deliver for new and old fans and both of them can enjoy the content.
