So, having hit 80 a few days ago, I’ve been catching up on the last 4 levels of my story, and purchasing / trying to find some new gear, as I’ve used transmutation stones to keep my character looking pretty much the same for the past 40 or so levels.

When completing the story mode quests, I was very surprised by the preview of the armor choices. It was either fishnetty tube top + mini skirt, strappy barbarian princess outfit, or mini Big O (seriously, that chest plate is… bad). I’ve been able to keep my character very sensibly armored, and being a Guardian, armor is fairly important – we’re supposed to be the toughest profession in the game.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to debate the morality of having big-breasted warriors with big swords in tiny metal bikinis. I mean, I get it. I’m a guy on a female character, so at least 1/3 of my brain is going “Hey, that armor doesn’t look half bad!” But that’s not why I made this character. So anyway, when I bought some rare armor and equipped it to see what it looked like, I was REALLY surprised to see it look exactly the same.

I now have a few options:
1) Run around looking like a fetish model all the time. (I might have some healing armor with this look so I only wear it in dungeons; but my character doesn’t have the figure [read: huge boobs] to really make the armor pop.)
2) Farm karma for some karma gear. (NOPE, karma stuff is way too expensive)
3) Buy Vigil armor (which I don’t have the money for at the moment, but I’m saving up for) and transmute.
4) Run dungeons for dungeon armor (which I just found out they made kinda viable)
5) Transmute my lower level armor so my higher level armor looks like it. (Which I’ve done, but it would be nice to have some armor to set me apart, visually, from lower levels.)

1 and 2 are thrown out immediately, and 4 is slightly viable, but would take a lot of time.

So I’m left with 2 options. Which really disappoints me. Anyone else feel the same way? Am I missing something? Any differing opinions?

I was hoping for pasties with those little tassels on them myself. Oh well, maybe in a patch.

I’m only familiar with the light armor choices for my sylvari and I’ve found them a bit disappointing as well. They show some cleavage and there’s a couple skirts open in the front to show off the panties but nothing that shows off the butt. It’s all long skirts in the back. Since you spend 99% of your time looking at your character from behind they could’ve at least put some clothes that show off the butt.

You should see the Sylvari female cultural armor. It’s fantastic.

I bought all vigil armor as soon as I hit 80. Medium looks nice, but Sylvari Cultural T3 armor looks epicly sick and I want it so bad.

So bad….

EDIT:

You should see the Sylvari female cultural armor. It’s fantastic.

^ Yeah, what that guy said.

I know! I’m not a sylvari though!
And as I said, that’s way too much karma. That would be a long-term goal.

The rare/exotic armor that drops or is crafted is intended to look the same as the stuff you get in the late stages of leveling. Different looks are available in a variety of ways as long-term goals.

My primary disappointment was that Karma could buy me a L80 cultural weapon, but no L80 armor anywhere that I’ve seen.

Ditto. But I’ll settle for the fetish model look (option #1) in a pinch. Now if I can just manage to make a Human Necromancer who looks like Dita Von Teese…

With the TP lacking previews, it is hard to tell what gear looks like. ;_; That said, I did a lot of research on armor looks before making my characters, and IMHO there is a good amount of more modest and practical looking gear for female heavy armor wearers; even more than there is really skimpy sexy stuff. I am sure I am missing a lot of options though as my only heavy armor wearer is a low level male.

Here are some suggestions aside from the Vigil armor or transmuting your old set. ^^

1. Level 80 crafted set — believe it is called Draconic (exotic?), and it definitely doesn’t have that “metal bikini” style going on.

2. Cultural sets – any tier for human, or tier 1 for Norn (personally I think the tier 2 human set looks awesome).

3. Different lower level sets — the tier 3/4 crafted sets offer good coverage and look pretty great IMHO! I also noticed a karma set on one of the Diessa Plateau heart vendors looks very practical and full covereage. Heck, you may have been wearing one of those, but looking at the armor galleries there seem to be quite a few options that aren’t skimpy.

Crafted armor sets (not my pic): http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/4756/craftedarmorsv2.jpg

You’re probably aware of most of these, but just in case not, I thought it couldn’t hurt to mention them. ^^ I am always looking for the perfect armor for my characters, so I wish you luck in finding a look you like!

When I look in the gear lockers in the mists, I see a lot of sets that look like good coverage and a lot that look sexy or beautiful.

I haven’t noticed many (any?) with good uncoverage of the butt.

It’s definitely not Tera, but there is a trend that the higher a set is, the less it covers on a woman.

Ah, you know, I saw a pic of the Draconic armor on the internet, and they must have been using a gladiator chest piece, and I was disappointed. But it looks like this is the real one. I’ll try for that :P

With the cultural armor, that’s what I was talking about with the karma farming. The sets cost WAY too much! And what I was saying is that I transmuted some lower level armor to be my main armor, so I already did that :P I think I’ll go for the draconic. Thanks! I wasn’t gonna go for that because of the incorrect pic I saw.

im female lvl 80 for some times and i still looking for the best looking armor (heavy)
but all i find is that the draconic armor is the bests looking lvl 80 exotic gear for heavy female armor !

all the other dungeons armor just look so bad ! its just look like a robot armor !
i want some sexy epic mini skirt ,
and how about some capes , capes could be looking very good
so far i know there is a “back” slot that can check mark view but nothing change ! maybe im wrong but that the cape thing , its just not apply in game yet !

I have no issues with it, just don’t stab or shoot me anywhere below the chest and it’s good. But my cans can withstand tank fire.

Skimpy/Revealing armor is one of the things that I wouldn’t mind paying real money for. The one bright side to the armor situation is that dungeon armors are so terrible that I feel zero inclination to grind them for them. Nearly everything for every profession is a variation of skirts or coats. I cannot believe that a team of talented artists were satisfied with this. There had to be some sad prude authority figure who held them back.

One of the pet peeves of mine in MMOs is the absolute need to put women in skimpy outfits and high heels, even for the defense-oriented characters. I’m look at you, Tera…. Guild Wars 2 made me so happy that they actually made armor sensible for characters- no high heels, no metal bikinies, and any armor that shows off skin will probably show off the same amount for men. Granted, there are armors that still show off too much but they tend to be for classes that traditionally don’t rely on being well protected, and just having the option to be a tall, fat tank female clad in 1000 pounds of armor versus some big boobed bimbo in a thong is enough- you can choose to be one, the other, or both. In a way, transmutation does this for us- if we don’t like how some armor looks, we just overlap it with another piece’s appearance while keeping the stats.

I’d be embarrassed to be so direct about that, but yeah, it’s kind of uncanny how often, even the skimpiest armor has coat tails or drapes of some sort in the back. Same with all different MMOs. Makes me wonder if the devs have some odd reason for it.

@Ursan (sorry, quote went poof!)
Someone posted that picture on a fan site forum, I don’t remember exactly where I saw it but I bookmarked it asap. I don’t know who made it, and I don’t know if there is a website associated with it, sorry. ;_; If there was one I knew of, I’d have been sure to link it, because whoever made that pic deserves cookies!

@Raukcaran
Glad that was helpful! I like that set a lot, tasteful and good looking. And I know what you mean about the cultural armor prices, I have my eye on a tier 2 and a tier 3 set, but ouch, expensive!

So, I JUST saw the Arah armor pieces (I didn’t have time last time I went looking at the dungeon armor) and WOW. It’s a little bit skimpy, but it’s only like, half skimpy as compared to the barbarian and gladiator gear. Not sure I like the chest piece (how the opening for your head is like… a zombie fish mouth. Yeah, GG art directors. That’s creepy as kitten), but the rest of the armor is… awesome.
