Granted, I’m an older player, who is tired of the treadmill system in other games, so I tend to like this game a bit more than many others would.

I’m primarily a PvE only explorer, and even after 260ish hours (~15 on an alt, rest on my Ele), I still haven’t seen and done everything in the open world yet.

As long as there are still things hiding in the world, still things I have not done yet, still personal challenges to overcome, and still friends/guildmates who want company or need help while they are levelling, I will not be bored.

I do the same. However, it would be nice to have another player or two with me now that I’m trying to complete the Orrian maps. That place will get you whacked in short order if you’re alone! The flash mobs of undead are unrelenting!

I am having a blast- I love this game, I spent so much time crafting this weekend that I gained 10 lvls by accident and spent the whole night making insignias in my dreams

I find myself looking to find more time to play- my real life is going down the drain- luckily it is winter here so no-one really expects you to leave the house much.

I stopped reading… Not trying to be a jerk…but lets be real.. MMO’s are great for the journey to lvl cap…but the game is centered around lvl 80 play. You don’t have the experience to tell me that end game is or isnt an issue. i had the same point of veiw while leveling to 80 and completely lost it at cap.

Ever since I started watching the progress of this MMO around 1.5 years ago, I got the gut feeling that this MMO was specifically about “the climb” and not the “end game scene”. Close to release, I posted various comments which repeated these thoughts on the GW2 Guru forums. I was shouted down because of more recent developer quotes which said otherwise. At the time, I really wasn’t convinced.

Lo and behold, people are saying exactly what I was expecting. ArenaNet specifically said that they didn’t want to have some kind of raid progression at the level cap. Therefore this left various forms of grinding for vanity appearance items and for maybe a tiny bit of extra +Stats. This is exactly what we got in the finished product of GW2.

Why are people surprised? I intentionally bought this game because the “journey” sounded remarkably fun in this game. While my highest level character is only in the upper 60’s, I’m having tons of fun because I got exactly what I expected.

I can empathize with the people who expected an “end game” scene that didn’t include grinding, but I really don’t see how a non-grinding system (that doesn’t include raids) would work in a MMO. The player frustration is understandable, but I can’t help feeling that many people came into GW2 with unrealistic expectations.

I do and main reason is that, most of the wow players are gone now.

And here how it will go:

ANet should learn that how quickly GW2’s content can be consumed and I think they did see it. If they are not lazy and still want to become owners of the most epic game ever, they should design the first expansion pack carefully and it has to be a large pack with lots of endgame features and events.

However, I am worried about GW2 because as far as I see on XFire’s website, online hours is not going good, constantly down. This was expected because they didn’t release any content updates before mop, but still, ANet should learn their lessons from this experience and be more careful next time.

Guild Wars 2 should stick to their “the climb” approach while also including the grinding “end game scene” that more traditional MMO players expect – doing so keeps the best of both worlds in check.

In the long term picture, I suspect that ArenaNet will alter the “end game scene” to be more like other MMOs. Whether you consider this to be adapting to their audience or caving into whining will depend on your point of view. Yet making an end game system does take time, especially if it isn’t based around some form of raid progression. I wouldn’t expect to really see anything substancial for at least another month or two.

I definitely think they will add more to do at 80, but I wouldn’t expect (or at least I hope) that it will not be the same vertical progression of other games. I’d really like to see them try something new. Not necessarily revolutionary but maybe evolutionary.

Experience? I think you came to this game expecting WoW and since you didn’t get WoW you’re upset. I knew the first day I played that there was no rush to 80 because you’re already lvl 80 in PvP and zones scale to level… it’s obviously meant to be a casual MMO. If you -ever- thought that this game was about rushing to 80 and grinding raids, you were delusional from the start.

For the most part, yes.

Seeing the endless stream of player exploits and overall lack of punishment for it is kind of crushing. I actually play the game within the spirit of the game, not to shortcut it or abuse it, and it’s irritating to watch players get ahead via dubious means.

It’s also irritating to read about them crying whenever their exploits are taken away as the game is fixed, and to rant about how they deserve to get everything for doing nothing.

I’m also really sick of seeing obvious bots, some using teleport/map hacks, and seeing nothing ever get done about it.

It’s impossible for me to ignore crap like this since I see it everywhere I go.

I disabled map chat a while back to alleviate the intellectual insult that is general chat the bulk of the time. Sucks because I like helping players with the GAME but the endless and pointless OT chatter and/or childish chatter in general makes public chat intollerable in ALL MMORPGs these days, including this one.

Yes, still loving it, my main is almost to level 80 now and there is still so much I haven’t experienced or seen. I really appreciate Anet’s stance on the buy to play because I don’t feel pressured that I have to play all the time because of a monthly fee. I can take my time in this game and just enjoy it. On top of that there’s enough innovation in the game that it’s been a refreshing change for me in playing an MMO which I haven’t experienced in years.

GW2 is not perfect by far and it does have some flaws, but overall it’s a very good, stable game. I definitely foresee myself playing this game for a long time and it takes a lot for me to feel that way about an MMO.

The OP’s question seems unintentionally ironic. It needs be asked if players are still having a blast in a game that was 5 years in the making and has been out for just a month?

Is there even really any doubt that players are having a blast? You could ask the same question of Ultima Online or EverQuest players and I’m sure you’ll get lots of positive responses too.

As for myself, I wish I could say I was having a blast, but I’m not. I log in and usually log off within the space of an hour or two once boredom sets in. It seems a number of players in my guild are doing the same since the “online” numbers have dropped lately.

I love the game. I hate, absolutely, hate, ANet’s way of destroying friendships that have been formed over the last 7 years. There is still no news, at all, about guesting. Without which our guild is slowly falling apart, my friendlist is purely a chat client and I really miss the cooperation in this magnificent Coop RPG.

Switching servers to play with other guild members isn’t an option as the second half (NA) of our guild is on a Full server. So, even if they switched to our EU side, they might have troubles moving back to their NA server. And don’t even consider the amount of influence lost if we actually do decide to go on once server only.

Beside that silly server problem (which shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place if guesting had been working from day one), I adore the game.

ANet created a very nice world, where I love to roam.

Must say that I am still having a good time. I did not hit level 80 yet so there is still much to see and discover for me.

I have a very active guild that organizes events almost every day and they make sure that (almost) everyone can be included.

Sure, there are a few things about the game that I don’t like so much but that is matter of personal opinion.

Will I still be having a blast when I hit 80? I don’t know about that but time will tell or else I can start playing one of the alts that are waiting for me.

I’ll be honest here. I do like the game. I’ve got an 80 mesmer and I love pvping with it. I’ve even grown to love my guardian alt. But, I’m not as “into” the game as I was a month ago. Mostly because I’m an explorer at heart and I’ve already unlocked the whole map on one character. It was awesome, but what can I do now that I’ve done what I enjoy the most? So that’s one thing. Second, I really like progression systems and I feel as if my progression on my 80 is done. I’m in exotics, story is done, world is explored, all skills unlocked, trait build set, only thing I can truly progress now with it is sPVP. That’s fun for a few matches but the length of time to rank up is pretty slow and the reward for doing so, pretty minimal.

I just find myself starting to look elsewhere for that sense of immersion and progression that I feel MMOs should have. Granted, it hasn’t been done right in any game since FFXI, but I can’t blame Anet for that. I blame the genre for getting away from creating long lasting content.

I’m hoping Anet with their awesome base game can innovate in the area of longevity now and surprise us all with some incredible updates. Updates that extend the life of the game and MAKE me want to log in and keep playing.

I wont say this game is the worst, nor is it the best. On my warrior I was stuck on 70 something main quest. Yes, I had one of those quest block. Sigh.. not 1, but 2. So my warrior took 71 hours to get to level 80. My Ele on the other hand, took 63 hours to hit 80. Tho, there were more broken Heart, and skill points than the first time around. I made an Engineer now. Man.. I am having a hard time finding hearts, skill challenge and DE(dynamic events) to do at a lower level. Even more broken hearts, skill challenge and DE(dynamic events). I did see them change from heart quest. But in return. Broke tons more quest. Yesterday I keep on getting the message. That this and that is disable please try again later. Even on my main quest too. Tho, I was able to do it.

So, my 3 Major problem I had.
1. Broken Hearts.
2. Broken dynamic events.
3. Broken Skill challenge
Because of 1,2,3. I wont be able to get World Exploration. I have no clue how other does it.. Maybe they got in to overflow.. shrug.
4. Botter farming spots where I need to do my quest on. I report bots. I add them on my friends to see how long it takes for them to get ban.. Looks like they still haven’t gotten ban yet.

GW2 is spectacular i love the approach to end-game and the entire game itself, only thing i hope is they add more content for the 80’s while i dont want a gear treadmill simply new dungeons and world-boss type events would be good just to keep those ‘’we have nothing to do’’ rushers and whiners happy

I am, and even started getting into WvW recently and I’m supposed to ‘hate’ PvP. I did not get the memo. Still a lot of crafting and map completing for me to do.

Assuming I complete my crafting some day, I’m fairly sure DEs and WvW will be entertaining for me. Though, I would like to see them introduce some more repeatable PvE content, I suppose.

Having said that, I feel bad for our hard core brothers and sisters that aren’t getting everything out of the game they hoped for. I hope they get rankings, raids, even better gear, I suppose (though I don’t know where they’d use it, being given better stats in WvW because you raid seems a bit off), whatever would make them interested. They are part of MMO communities, and also good contributors to game economies, and many things ‘outside’ of the immediate game (fan sites, guides, databases).

I’m sure they’ll sprinkle some more stuff in over time to get you folks excited again.

I havekitten Ranger and a 45 Guardian. I love the Ranger, the Guardian not nearly as much, but still is kool.
I’ve been aboard MANY mmo’s at launch. I can not see how this launch can be viewed as anything but smooth. I guess it comes down to personal experience. I was hacked right after the RIFT launch, that soured me to that game pretty badly.
I’m not much for end game raid type stuff. I used to raid pretty hard in EQ1, but that was before I had kids.
I’m really enjoying the ride. We’ll just have to wait and see about end game, but I’m not too concerned.
