Anyone know how to get vipers gear?
you buy the inscription/insignia recipes from the exhalted merch in Tarir’s center for map currency. You’ll need black diamonds to craft it which come from the chests under Tarir after a successful meta run. also I believe they may drop from chak caches in TD. the individual armor/weapons recipes drop in the Tarir chests also and you can buy them on the TP
The Recipes for the Insignia/Inscription can be purchased at the Exaltet Vendor in Tarir (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exalted_Mastery_Vendor#vendor24).
The recipes for the armor/weapons can only drop in the exaltet chests which spawn after the meta event.
If you are going for asc-gear and have some unused asc armor pieces i would advise to change the stats in the mystic forge (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Anthology_of_Heroes). That way you don’t need the recipe for the armor/weapon pieces itself.
I’d also advise you to craft a different ascended armor and change the stats in the mystic forge. The reason is that a full set of viper’s armor requires 425 Fulgurite, which is just way too tedious to collect all materials for.
You can get a extroic viper gear box in the storg bitten harvest (the second last HOT mission), which contain weapon and armor.
I fram them with 9 alts, cuz the diamond were too expensive for me.

I tried this but it didn’t seem to work for Commander’s Armour. I’m guessing it doesn’t for all HoT stat combined armour?

True, but it does work for vipers gear and is very recommended over actually building it.
The suggestion with getting the exotic viper gear box in the second last HoT mission is also a good one. Rushing through the HoT story takes about 1.5 hours once you know what can get skipped. While being limited to 1 box per character, it is saving you what is essentially 600-700 gold in crafting an ascended armor.
I’d pick from those boxes:
- exotic armor first since this will be the last you’ll be replacing and it allows you to go for best in slot runes
- craft exotic or ascended vipers weapons
