Dear developers, since you’re so thoroughly trying to create a dramatic impression of the events, environment, to convey the… nature of the characters and so on., please correct emotions animation. Against the background of the rest of beauty it looks ridiculous when at any gestures of the characters they’r weapons and backs just disappearing. By themselves many emotions not very eeer… realistic too. Ideally, it would be good to see a lot of new emotions. Extremely desirable, for instance, to animate character’s “\say” speech. Accompany with voicing some of commands, such as “hello” etc.
In general, it is time to do something with it. Roleplay, so far, is the weakest side in this game, although b4 the release it seemed to be just the opposite.

Historical:

GW1 had the issue with weapons/shield being constantly unsheathed/deployed during cut-scenes, I think that was fixed by simply excluding them from the rendered character.

Also. GW1 originally didn’t have mouth movements for the voice actors in the cut-scene, this was later added to the earlier Chapters with (I think) Nightfall’s release.

I haven’t noticed the weapons appearing/reappearing issue in GW2 in the cut-scenes, but it may happen in the open world activities?

I can see that as an understandable limitation because the extra steps required to “solve” the problem is cost prohibitive:

Custom animation and skins each time a character equips a bundle or emotes depending on their equipped gear, etc…

As for the emotes..

Emotes in the open game world are theatrical in nature and somewhat over the top.

Like actors on a stage, everything is exaggerated so the farthest audience member can interpret what is being conveyed in the body language of the performer. Telegraphing emotion is a brute force endeavor in most games I have played, I haven’t seen it done well in an MMO yet.

But maybe one day:

I think you’re a bit exaggerating. Just enough to straighten what is already available. It is overstatement to expect from MMO super realistic facial animation and gestures 100% replicate the human (there IS a good facial animation and it is excellent already. Except the fact that it is not used almost anywhere except the dialog scenes in personal story which, for some reason, are not produced anymore). However, emotions of characters in MMO – is a necessary means of communication. Like smilies on the forum. No one is waiting for that smiley is exactly transmit emotions. However, it helps to transmit them better. And in a game with so much idle talk, strange to have such a buggy emotions.

Im pretty happy with the emotes so far. I just really wish we had a few more :p.

Roleplaying is something i really enjoy, and i use these emotes a whole lot. Theres alot of fun you can have with them – i’ve had great times hanging out with random people while we werent even talking just with these emotes.
Guild wars 1 had a whole plethora of emotes – things like sorry, beg, attention, facepalm, etc, and i’d love for more of these to come to GW2.

Sadly, ANet doesn’t really seem to care much about what roleplayers want.

Despite giving us some awesome storylines to follow, and some great improvements in the Living Story (which I have really enjoyed)… there’s just nothing for RPers.

It’s a bad thing since release. A lot of commands inside the game but just nothing happens with the good old GW Emotes. I can’t say why the never finished or more added and everything reworked. Characters having difficult to sit at chairs and so on. If those parts with emotes, sitting, lying on the floor / bed would really work roleplaying and housing system would never far away. But where should they got the people for the programming ??
