Just thought of this actually, and hadn’t seen any discussion on this. It seems like the current assumed answer might be, “Yes, cultural armor will be available to all races across the account since the new ‘wardrobe’ will allow you to use any armor skin unlocked from all characters on the account.”

A Charr wearing Sylvari cultural armor would look pretty funny/cool.

Cultural skins will still have the “Race:[x]” as part of their design.

There’s no reason they wouldn’t.

Last time I tried to preview cultural armor on a race that it wasn’t meant for, the Previewer didn’t show a change, and when I scrolled over the item it said, “Cannot be worn by this race.”

I can’t believe this has to be asked… obviously it will stay cultural, all parts of the armors have a Race requirement

Considering the last time they tried to share a racial look these forums exploded in an incendiary fury that makes the current flap about town clothes look like a campfire… they’d have to be suicidal to try that again.

Well…I think there was more to it than that. Personally, I wouldn’t mind if they removed the racial lock for all cultural armors. I’ve sometimes thought how neat it would be to get some of those pieces for other races and how they’d look.

Personally, I hope they’ll introduce more Town Clothes type armors now. There are some clothes you see NPCs wearing that I’d love to be able to wear. I know there’s a big movement on people wanting Countess Anise’s getup. The queen’s clothes are worn by a few other NPCs, so I could see that going too. But I’d honestly like to have stuff like this available:

Hmm… What about Order armors? Are those still restricted to Order members? I’d understand if that was the case, but at the same time, I’d love to be able to use Order weapons on a different character just because I think they’d look more awesome in it.

You can do that already. Just transmute a piece of Order armor onto another piece of armor. It becomes account bound when you transmute it. Heck, my level 1 Elementalist had the Order’s Light pants and boots.

Yeah, but with the new system, will that method no longer be possible? (Or being able to use the Necromancer’s Wraith mask on different professions, as another example.) Since Stones/Crystals are disappearing completely and all appearances are assigned via the Wardrobe, the old “transmute to a white item” loophole may now be closed.

Somehow I don’t suspect so. The Wardrobe system -seems- to be the old system, with the old stones/crystals being replaced by charges. Think of it like, the old dungeon tokens being put into the Wallet; no longer physically in your inventory, but still fulfilling the same exact purpose.

The way in which I think it will work is this:

Any cultural armor skins you’ve got will be unlocked in the wardrobe, available for any of your characters to use, but would still require the respective race for that skin to be applied.

Sort of like in the PvP locker, you might have the skin unlocked, but not have the actual race requirement to apply it.

Forever a supporter of more male skimpy armor

Order armors aren’t actually restricted to any specific order right now. The only thing that’s restricted is that the vendors won’t sell to you if you aren’t of that particular order (and they’re soulbound on purchase so you can’t transfer them until you transmute).

So unless they specifically ADD an order restriction that prevents other characters from wearing it in the same way the racial restriction on cultural armor works, I think the new system will make it even easier to transfer order armors to other characters. All you’d have to do it buy it with a character in that order and the skin should be unlocked for use in the wardrobe for all your characters, since any skin that you bind to a character is automatically added to the wardrobe and order armor is auto-soulbound.

Same with profession starter gear. Its auto-soulbound, so it should be added immediately on character creation. Unless they make it a specific exception.

Well, if that’s true, I’m doubly stoked. Good thing I have a spare character slot so I can unlock all those unique starter gear appearances for my Wardrobe!

Well, we do know that weight restrictions are still staying, but cross-character wardrobe skins may be possible!
